The manner of its arriving was as much of a curious thing as the creature whom found it. The creature, for a start, went by many names, and had a handful of different faces. Most of witch, as it happened, were feline faces...something that gave it great joy. Some of them were, 'human' or, one might say...humanoid. And these gave it amusement. For as it is so often with such strange creatures. It took pleasure in the confuddlement of others. It was perhaps for this reason that it discarded the rules of gender, among other things, and was sometimes male... and sometimes female... This creature, was currently using the title 'The Mogget'...the name gave it pleasure, for it enjoyed greatly -saying- the name, and enjoyed just as much -being- the name. For, it knew, as such creatures do, that the name is as much a definition, as is ones face, or character. That perhaps, is why it found the 'thing'...so curious. For when it found it...the 'thing' had no name...except perhaps that it was a 'thing'...and could be so identified. For the sake of clarity; The Mogget chose to call 'the thing'...'the yellow orb'...for it was more a specific and descriptive kind of name and The Mogget found such names pleasing for any creature but itself.
"The Yellow Orb" was discovered, in its strange arriving...in a curious moment... of complete...and utter... and perhaps miss-placed -Joy-. One says misplaced because "The Mogget", being the kind of creature it was, was quite un-accustomed to being 'Joyous'... it was in fact, quite un-used to frivolity. To such a degree that it first mistook the feeling for hunger.... and stole some milk to settle it.
Having, with a profound sense of entitlement lapped the cream off some very fine milk... it still found itself suffering this strange feeling. And so, sitting down to clean it's paws...for they currently were paws, as it found the form appealing. It thought... "Well... how strange...I do believe that’s not hunger at all...for I remain quite unsatisfied...how -tingly- it is...and what a curious compulsion to behave quite irrationally. How -awful!-... what devilish kind of thing could make me want to -frolic-! how unbecoming of the creature I am... I must put this to rights!"
Standing then, in the kind of righteous indignation that only those currently bearing a feline face can currently achieve... it set out to find the source of this most -bothersome- joy.....and tripped; a quite un-catlike thing to do. And yet, it will explain to you with the utmost sincerity. That it was quite utterly -not- at fault for the tripping. And that it was, in fact, the appearance of curious yellow orbs possessing of odd emotions that were completely...and utterly...at fault for the tripping and the events that followed shortly there after.

Having failed to find a satisfactory place to burry the orb... the mogget resigned itself to 'keeping' it... this being after several hours of trying to find ways to get -away- from it. However, for something without legs or any visable means of transportation except rolling...it seemed remarkably adept at following something that could walk...run... vanish... shift...and otherwise transport itself wherever it was inclined to -be- at a given moment. Rather than admit defeat...as things such as a Mogget is are -never- defeated, and will happily confirm this fact. It discovered, in due corse while sitting atop a long stone wall, that Joy...and sunlight went as well together as a nice patch of shadow and a dish of cream. And therefor, the orb may well be worth keeping about after all. It spent the rest of the second day napping on a roof top with the orb...its slumber interupted breifly by a blue bird...
The mogget ate it... and was happy.

By the next day... Blue Birds… the Mogget decided. Were in fact –not- made of happiness. At least, that one had not been. It was rather disappointed, and felt that this was in fact a terrible injustice that was in need of remedy… Complaints must be filed, the order of the universe made right. After all, what was the use of devowering the chirping balls of fluff if they did not deliver as promiced. It then realized, that, there must be many blue birds. And only –one- blue bird of happiness, just the same way there was ONE Mogget. It then decided, that it may in fact be part of its own purpose to find the little blighter and eat it… it found the thought particularity satisfying. The orb…if orbs could do such a thing. Had to good grace to look disturbed by the fact, but reconciled itself to the hope that whatever this creature was, it shouldn’t be able to eat a metaphor… and since Joy is so often linked to hope… it decided it would have to be a sufficient kind of hope, and held on to it.

By the 4th day - the Mogget, and it felt right entitlement to be so, was utterly and completely irritated with the orb again. Now, had it been willing to concede the fact that it's feline forms were impractical for dealing with and or transporting glossy yellow orbs the size of a human's fist... it might have been less irritated. But of course, it was utterly correct in its vexation, after all, would you become a horse in order to plow a field? The Mogget thought not, and took the opportunity to look self-righteous...something cats by their very superior nature did exceptionally well. "You..." said Mogget to the yellow orb, by now quite warmed by the sun, and in that respect quite pleasing for it was a most excellent warmer of feline bellies. ""Are BOTHERSOME to carry about... you are -far- to large for my collar... and far too legless to even -remotely- allow me to consider the utterly inconceivable thought of allowing you to sit astride my fine white back... lastly... you have no proper nape... additionally... you have the utterly RUDE habit, of finding me...and I am a cat, I shall assume that you have NO proper parents to tell you that when a cat vanishes they are -not- to be found unless they -wish- to be found. I hope you will take this into consideration moving forward. NOW then..."
It stood, flicked its tail and turned to trot away across the roof top where it was currently lording over the bipeds below...really, what would they do if he didn't attend to this infestation of feathered fluttering -chirping- things? The sound of something smallish and crystalline rolling across slate behind it gave it pause and it flattered its ears. ((It of course looked not only very intimidating doing this, but very handsome as well, Moggets are of course experts in always looking -very- proper. That is to say, they WOULD be -if- there were more than one Mogget, there is not, but assuredly if there were, none could be so spectacular as -this- Mogget, and it will assure you of the same.))
"Stop it..." The Mogget growled... the orb paused...and the Mogget started forward again, accompanied by that same sound of rolling crystal. The Mogget regrets to say that this is the time that it began to let its composure drift. ((And, it must remind you, that when it says 'drift' it in no way means 'lose' Moggets never loose what they do not wish to...)) And was shortly there after to be seen racing pell-mell from roof top to roof top with its tail quite in a bush, it's ears folded back and uttering ((With the most utterly proper pronunciation)) Every swear, curse and fowl utterance that it knew. ((Not that the Mogget would ever do something that a 'Fowl' would, that would be improper))

The orb...it seemed, was every bit as persistent in its desire and ability to -stay- with the creature whom was trying to elude it in a propper catlike manner. This being the case, and the orb showing -no- signs of needing to rest, slow down, or otherwise engage in the most delightful parts of life in general that trying to stay away from it were causing the mogget to -miss-. It...that is to say the Mogget...determined, much to its profound astonishment. For it had -never- found a creature of such tenasity, and rather thought if it -did- it would happily seek out some method of destruction. Being however, that it was quite at a loss on how to eliminate an orb whom showed not the slightet mark of its cross country side traversings...it would...have to...*and it shuddered* -COMPRAMISE-
To maintain the appearences... it alowed itself to 'pant' slightly to catch its breath. Not, of course, that it -needed- to. "I suppose this is pointless for the -both- of us... " it conseded with a small huff.
The orb being what -it- was stayed silent.
"You're going to have to learn to respect you're betters....its clear you have no idea what you are in the company of... I can only pitty you're ignorance and seek to enlighten you...yes...perhaps that is why you persist so...I shall then. I'll show you the perfection that is my elegant self." It looked most pleased with its discovery. After all...what creature would -not- wish to bask in the elegance that was itself. It raised a perfect white paw with delecate pink pads and cleaned it with a fine rasped tongue. "I can hardly blame you for recognizing my superiority...and lacking any form of mouth it must be near impossible to communicate you're intents...I suspect you can neither mark things with sent nor 'write' can you..."
The orb glittered slightly in the sun...
"Quite right then...do try not to be -terribly- hard on yourself...perfection such as my self is singular. It's not something one becomes...like myself...it simply -is-...consider that your first lesson... and decease with that blasted 'giddyness' you keep foisting upon me... Moggets do not -skip- or frolic!" It huffled and settled down to demonstrate the most propper way of enjoying a sunset atop a clay tiled roof.

The Mogget woke the next morning purring... someone had obviously succomed to his subconsious message to come and scritch in the soft fluff behind it's prim little ears. It's purr was a magnificent thing... a perfectly toned thrum that could turn even the hardest human to cooing -mush-...
And then it opened its handsome perfect green eyes. (The color that emeralds should -propperly- be but never quite -were- A slender golden skined arm was now gently petting down the silky fur of its neck...there was just enough torso to give it shoulders...and wings reminicent of leaves and dragonflys...or the fall of summer sun through a cloud... Soft blond hair...and wide innocent joy filled. There was little -below- the shoulders but golden ribbons...and -that-... the Orb... from arond whom the ribbons eminated... Mogget's ears went back and it shifted its shoulders causing the small golden bell around its neck to give a tiny sleepy peel... The yellow 'not an human but not an orb either' gave a yawn despite itself...
"And what...I shall ask...are you?" Demanded the Mogget. ((For The Mogget will 'never' ask permision to make an inquiry... if it did... it would not -be- the mogget...and should be seen as imposter and dealt with accordingly))
"I'm Lyrael" She said rubbing at her eye with one small hand "I'm your Joy!"
"Moggets...do not -have- Joy"
"I know...thats why I'm -here-"
"I believe...you are missing the -point-"
"No! I can't be...Jareth sent me especially..."
"Jareth..."
"The Goblin King..."
"I -see-".... its tail flicked back and forth in irritation...
"And how do I get -rid- of you..."
She looked wounded... "Well...I... I don't know... do you really want to?" She said...her lip quivering... not a very joyous thing to do at all...
The mogget stared at 'it' for some time...
"You may resume scratching my ears..." it said at last...
She took it for acceptance...as well she might have.
