It's all a matter of opinnion.

I don't understand this question. If you are asking if Tribute is a cover of something else...no...but if you listen to the very end they sort of imply that the greatest song was Stairway to Heaven. Of course in P.O.D. the greatest song is the song they sing to the devil in Beezleboss.

If this question was regarding something else. can you clarify?

no I was just wondering if the song "tribute" was written by Tenacious D or if it was written by someone else and they just did a cover of it I was pretty sure that it was done by the D but I was told otherwise

Yeah The D wrote Tribute!
I love the subtle mention of Tribute in The Pick Of Destiny (the movie)
You know the bit after they have the rock off with the demon? I think its Jack who says something along the lines of "That was the greatest song in the world" and then Kyle says "How did it go again?" and they can't remember. Hehe awesome. These quotes are probably completely wrong but I have a bad memory. Don't judge me biggrin

I just wish that they had ended it with Tribute, or at least the bigging few notes of Tribute.

That would have made me wicked happy.

The way that it's put out there though, you definitely know that they're referencing Tribute to Beelzeboss.
