I Want to know your opinions also. This is a discussion on his “Personalities”, how he acts, and other things such as those.
Ok, first of all I have to say that everyone has their different opinion about Youko Kurama, Shuuichi Minamino, and their combined personality known lovingly as Kurama to his friends.
You all are welcome (and encouraged) to debate what is being written in this thread, although I ask that we all keep this discussion civilized. I shall start.

These are my thoughts on Him: (ok this is going to feel like an essay)
All right. First of all I have to elaborate on my “personalities” comment earlier. I have seen MANY fanfics where the author has portrayed Kurama as having as many as three personalities. Those being Youko Kurama, Shuuichi Minamino, and their combined personality Kurama. I agree with this to a certain extent. I believe that there are only two personalities, Youko Kurama and Kurama. I believe that the way he acts as Shuuichi Minamino is just a façade that Kurama puts on in front of people that he doesn’t know, or hasn’t told them about him being an avatar. I also get the genuine feeling that no matter what form he is in that he has a authentic love for his mother Shiori.

A lot of people don’t understand that as the Infamous “King of Thieves in Makai” Youko had to be VERY ruthless in order for him to get that reputation. Youko would kill a man for looking at him in a way that he didn’t like. And to tell the truth, if I had control of ANY kind of plant-life I’d make them grow into weapons too if someone pissed me off, or was threatening the lives of the ones that I loved. (Just Me)

As Kurama, he is a lot more considerate to those around him. Albeit if you piss him off in either form you are liable to get your a** handed to you on a silver platter.
I feel that the reason for Kurama’s genius in school is derived from the facts that (1) He has a 1000 + year old kitsune soul living in his body, That would have ANYONE acting smarter than the average person. And, (2) Kitsunes are VERY curious creatures, I have no doubt in my mind that the minute Shiori put a book in her son’s hands he started reading none-stop trying to learn all he could about the atmosphere around him. I can already see the look on Shiori’s face when she sees her five year old son sitting down on the couch reading a college level history book. ::LMAO::
I have to touch on this point just a little before I finish. Many people believe that Kurama is ONLY gay. I’m thinking that he is not so much as he would be Bi-sexual. The reason that I say this is:
In Japanese Mythology, Kitsunes were VERY sexual creatures. That being said, I have no doubt that given the “urge” Youko wouldn’t care what gender his “Partner” is as long as each other enjoyed themselves.
Those are all my thoughts for now. I May add more in the future.

Thank you Sonya-san for making such an interesting topic. I will certainly enjoy posting my views of Kurama and his personalities here. First and foremost I do agree with your statement about Minamino Shuuichi. I too believe that the way he acts as minamino-san is in fact a facade for those around. I truly don't think that his classmates would be able to accept and adore him if they knew how he was outside of school and around the friends he has.
Youko Kurama in my opinion is someone who you should really fear rather than pine over romanticly. I don't believe he is heartless, but as proven in the series he has no qualms with mercilessly turning on an ally if betrayed. I realize that kitsune are seen as premiscuous creatures in Japanese mythology, but it gets under my skin when I read fan fics where Youko Kurama is nothing but a sex hungry fiend. It's as if people tend to focus more on an aspect that isn't shown in the series rather than one that was introduced. Mind you I can accept a bit of a sexual appetite, however if he protrayed simply with that on his mind... i really would rather have nothing to do with it.
Now as for Kurama... I believe that to be the more dominant personality, not only because he is usually in that form, but because even in his Youko form he has the influence of his mother and friends. I also think that regardless of which form he is in... he will always be ruthless toward those who harms his loved ones.
my appologies as much as i would like to elaborate... I have developed headache due to the computer being out in the family room. My younger sister is being noisey as all hell and i cannot concentrate any further. but I guess as far as his personalities go... i still have one thing against his cautiousness. I know he cares deeply for his family and his friends who aren't aware of his past, but eventually the truth will come out against his own will and careful planning.

no need to apologize... We all make mistakes. I will admit though... I am super picky when it comes to spelling YYH characters' names. I mean... for instance... I don't spell Yuusuke... Yusuke... I add in the second U because... well... I'm not sure what exactly influenced that spelling... but I know it was a very good reason. What that has to do with Kurama... I don't know.

I'm afraid of repeating something that may have already been said, but...
I think that Youko Kurama may have very well been ruthless, but he also was well-respected. If he wasn't respected, I doubt that he would have had a gang. He could easily be somewhat egotistical as well, but with good reason - he's powerful and he knows it, to boot.
Shuuichi, on the other hand, is what happened when Youko Kurama fused himself with a human embryo. At his core, I believe him to be somewhat like his true self, but with human feelings and emotions. Shuuichi is kind, and soft-spoken, but we've all seen what happens to those who threaten his mother or his friends.
That's all I have to say. ^^;;

I strongly believe that Youko isn't as cold as to some think.
I think he has the heart of a potential king. Strict but kind in his way.
He is very stern about his plans and don't like "canon fodder."
Shuuchi is very kind in a backwards way. He is "Frontal" kind where it is obvious and is the kind of guy you want to bring home to mommy.
So all in all to sum it up, I believe that Spirit fox or Demon he is well rounded and a Good Chracter.

I agree that Youko Kurama is respected by his followers, but feared by most everyone else.. and admired by both. It's obvious he has the capability to care as the Youko we all love because if he didn't... he wouldn't have given Yomi so many chances knowing that he would disobey his orders in the longrun.

i think youko kurama and shuichi monoino have two different peresonalits yoko is serious and actully really kind of mean
but shuichi is really nice and calm and sweet and.......really quite funny
