Yep, even our Saturday morning are never going to be the same! What happened to the old cartoons--the funny and violent one's like the Roadrunner, YogiBear, Flintstones, ScoobyDoo, Tweety & Sylvester.

What is different between old style cartoons and the new style of anime; or are they the same? What do you think?

Hey girl you forgot Tom and Jerry and the Snoopy and Charlie Brown show, The Snorks, The Smurfs, and The Rocky and Bowinkle show. God I miss those shows. They need to bring them back. They need to bring back the original Carebears too cause the new ones suck. Funshine is not a boy why did the stupid people have to change her into one? And I really the My little pony show(The old one) the new My little Ponies suck. BRING BACK THE GOOD STUFF. I mean don't get me wrong I LOVE anime, but they need to bring the old stuff back too. Why can't we have both?

The brilliance of cartoons has been butchered and stifled by censorship, regulations and lack of creativity. Your beloved violent cartoons like popeye, who trashed on ol' Bluto and cool toons like that have been cast aside, because nowadays something offends somebody. I used to watch this show called Invader Zim, it was totally chaotic and violent but it was cancelled. Cartoon nowadays tend to be more idiotic and go for a quick laugh rather then a deep moral story with some non-logical violent humor to make the educational stuff seem less boring.
Popeye--->eat your spinach---->covered up by beating people up. *thumbs up* xd

I know everyone is trying so hard to be politically correct that the fun is getting taken away! Those old cartoons had interesting messages. Like Popye...eat your spinach...get strong and you can take on the bullies! What is left after you take out everything that could offend...bland non-committal mush! xp

Well sort of. I mean Lamb Chop is an old kid's show. They should totally bring back the Muppets and the Fraggiles to add to that.

I miss the Tom and Jerry show and old cartoons like that. I love anime though, and I'm glad that they're showing it alot more. I seriously with that they would put those old cartoons back up at a normal time besides 2 a.m. in the morning cry

What ever happend to all the 80s cartoons, like Jimbo, Poddington Peas, Thundercats, Super Ted, Care bears *sulks* all the cartoons shown these days are crap, just take the Teletubbies and Boobahs for example. Bring back retro cartoons!

Old cartoons were awesome!
I miss the cartoons where... you know.. the protagonist could actually.. *gasp* DIE! In a semi-realistic situation.

And while I guess the same is true for some modern cartoons, those cartoons aren't usually meant for kids. Powerpuff girls and... uhm.. I don't watch many cartoons these days... Samurai Jack? Those are toons meant for kids around 10 or 11, who are already coping, and have probably already spent many years coping, with "violence on TV".

However, has anyone sat down to watch old "Tom and Jerry"s or old "Popeye"s?

I've tried it a couple times. Sometimes... it was pretty good, and I got a couple of chuckles. But, it really depended on the episode, because sometimes some of the episodes left me cold.

However, in reference to Looney Toons... I will take Tiny Toons spinsoffs any day over the new "Mega Toons" or whatever it is they're showing on WB now.

I want back:
Original My Little Ponies, Original Care Bears, Duck Tales, Tailspin, Darkwing Duck, Tiny Toons, Captain Planet, and I'm sure I can think of a few others, given time,

But, I guess, like people and knowledge, cartoons evolve. Anime started.. in the 50s, if I remember correctly. With the original Astroboy. And its evolved to where it is now. It grew, I guess, kind of parallel to our American animation, without something like Disney propelling it. And then samples started emerging in our culture, and soon, it caught on and became a hit. So much so, that a lot of our American toons have started working with an anime-ish style to them (Totally Spies, Avatar the Last Airbender).

But that's not to say Anime doesn't borrow their styles from other cultures as well. Most of the Saturday morning bunk kids see are... 99% pure Japanese animation.. but there are some anime out there, such as Twelve Kingdoms, that borrows its storytelling style (at least) from the Chinese.
