General logic can probably answer this, but I figured I'd ask here as well.
The situation is like this:
Tentacruel used Substitute!
Starmie used Thunderbolt!
Now, say that the Substitute survives that hit. So you've got a doll versus Starmie. Next turn:
Starmie used Thunderbolt!
The Substitute broke!
Tentacruel used Mirror Coat!
Starmie fainted!
Now, Tentacruel didn't exactly get hit by the Thunderbolt, so would Mirror Coat still work or not?

I believe it would. The substitute counts as the pokemon.

I'm testing it later with a Blissey, so if nobody confirms it by then, I'll have results.
You're probably right, Cyborg. I suppose if it can Recover/Softboiled/Heal Bell and whatnot, it should be able to do the rest.

I wasted mine. I taught it to an Alakazam. One that downright sucked too. Is it possible to transfer Tutor moves like with TM's?

I'm not sure.
The tutor in XD doesn't have Counter yet, either not at all or because I need to purify more.
I'll give it Counter with my Leaf Green once I get a Link Cable from my friend this weekend.
