Adjacent to the Queen's Chambers, the Alpha Barracks are situated so that those in the highest stage of command may be nearby to protect their Queen.
There are three separate chambers, one for each of the four alphas. The coves are well furnished with alcoves for valuables and cattail-down beds. Of course, they too are ranked within their barrack, with the highest alpha the closest to the Qheen's Chambers.
This area is off-limits unles you are female, or were invited in by an Alpha....more to come as I update the thread...

Xerxes walk to his cove, the one nearest the Queen, and lay down on his bed. It had been a long day, made longer because he had had to deal with the Queen. Most days he was grateful to be the higest Alpha, but not today. Not when he was the one closest to the Queen's chambers, not when he was the one who had to deal with her and her female oddities all the time. He knew he should train, so that the other Alphas weren't able to surpass him, but right now he almost wanted one of them to do that, so he wouldn't have to be the one dealing with the Queen. Almost. But he would train, though. Just later, when he wasn't so tired...
Soon, he was deeply asleep. Or as deeply asleep as one ever got around here, where you always had to be on the alert for danger.

He woke up some time later, unsure what time it was. Not that the time mattered. He lay there for a while, eyes closed, pretending to be asleep, to make sure that no one was around and planning a surprise attack. But the area around him was silent, and he caught no sound of movement, or breathing, or anythig else that would imply that there was someone else by him. He opened one eye, slowly, and noted that he truly was alone. Good. The last thing he wanted to deal with was a battle before breakfast. Food first, then fighting was his prefered order, but really, you couldn't always get what you wanted.
He stretched out slowly, making sure that every muscle was loose. He was going to be doing a lot of training today, and the last thing he wanted to do was injure something, especially something important, like his wings or legs.

Xerxes rather wished that some other Alpha was around, so he could practice fighting, since practice always went better when you were fighting against somethig living, but then, that would just make the other Alpha stronger, which would make his position at the top (or as close to the top as any male got) would be less secure, and that would be bad.
And so he was reduced to training on rocks. Rocks made truly horrible things to practice on, since they couldn't fight back, but it was something, at least, and he had to make sure that he didn't loose any of his fighting skill.

Xerxes didn't say anything as he lead the Princess into the Alpha barracks. While the barracks were close to the Queen's chamber, they had enough rock and distance between them that the Queen couldn't hear them, at least, and she rarely showed any interest in disturbing the Alphas in their quarters. Maybe she didn't feel like taking on all four of them at once with her mind games. It didn't matter to him.
He lay down on his bed, the one closest to the Queen's chambers, and waited for the Princess to figure out where to sit. Being Princess, she could take any spot she wanted, and none of the other Alphas could do a thing about it. Xerxes thought she could probably kick him off his bed, too, but he really wished she wouldn't. He just wanted to relax after a long day of dealing with the Queen, and he didn't want to have to move anywhere at all.

Adurna followed Xerxes to his chambers. She smiled. There was a bed close to Xerxes' but far enough away to be comfortable. She took that one.
Laying down and turning to look at Xerxes. She saw him laying there glad to be somewhat alone save for her, but he acted tired, she wasn't mindreading him right now. She was too tired too.
She remebered she had left th bones in the Queen's chamber on ehr bed. She shrugged they would be there for her later.

he replied, automatically. Tired meant you couldn't deal with the strain of fighting, of keeping the stupid kits in line, of hunting, of being Prime Alpha.
And he wasn't tired, exactly. Not in body, but in mind. He was tired of dealing with the Queen, and the mind-reading females. The Princess had proved to him that she had the same abilites as the Queen, and he wasn't sure whether he could trust that she had matured enough to not use them for fun, as the Queen did. No, he couldn't--trust went against everything in Damphousse society. Not trust, but...believe, maybe. Believe that she was telling the truth, that she really was staying out of his mind.
It was nice to see that she hadn't demanded his bed, the best one in the barracks. He supposed that he ought to have let her have her pick of the beds, but he wasn't used to having to think of any superiors (or even equals) but the Queen, and she rarely stayed long enough to want to sit on something.
The Princess, though...She seemed to be better than the Queen. But he knew better than to trust in appearances, or lower his guard, and he doubted he ever would. How could she possibly prove to him that she was staying out of his mind, if he didn't know when she was in his thoughts? He couldn't know, and so he couldn't trust her. But she wasn't playing mind games, or didn't seem to be, at least. That was one thing going for her.

She resisted the urge to go into his mind to read his thoughts, but she didn't need him to be her enemy. She gave him a smirk, well her version of a smile. She said.
Looking around she kept a careful lookout, just in case. Didn't need the Queen to show up or anyone else for that matter.

He wondered why she was so jumpy. The other Alphas...well, they rarely came here, and he couldn't remember when he had last seen any of them. And the Queen wasn't that fond of intruding, either. Maybe it was some twisted form of respect. Probably it was just because he was a lot more likely to be spending his time in the ampitheater, watching the others than in the barracks.
he told her. He supposed that it was a good idea to be cautious, but she seemed to be taking it to an extreme.

She gave a sadish smile. She stopped looking around and looked back at the alpha. She knew he'd know better then to attack. So she was totally fine, but tried to keep her mind out just to look out for the Queen.

He took note of her smile, but didn't say anything. It wasn't his place to pry. She was still female, and so even though they were technically of equal rank, there was still the fact that she was going to have more power than he did, eventually.
he reminded her. Just because they rarely came here at the same time didn't mean that there wasn't the chance of them showing up at some time. Although they had all probably found something to occupy their time with, the way he had taken to keeping a close eye on his possible competition. The other Alphas he knew well enough that they no longer needed constant survelliance, but he had to keep an eye on the stupid kits who thought that they could take him down, because if he didn't, one day that kit wouldn't be that stupid, and would have his rank. And that couldn't happen.
It was a bit of a relief to know that she could probably "hear" someone coming before he could. One of the first things a Damphousse learned was stealth, and after that, how to listen for the tiny noise the person sneaking up on you was forced to make, and realize that noise for what it was, and not brush it off as some figment of the imagination.
But he still wasn't going to depend on her. He knew better than to depend on anyone, especially not a female.

She realized her showing of weakness and shook her head. she said trying to bring up a conversation, which, of course, she was bad at.

He really didn't converse with others. The one he spoke the most with was probably the Queen, just because she had that thing for playing games with his mind (stupid females), although he had spent so much time reprimending stupid kits, they had all started to slowly blurr into one great mass of stupidity.
To come into the barracks? No, they knew that they would have four Alphas to take on, and not just him, and no Damphousse liked odds like that. Or had she heard his thought about the stupid kits challenging him? He knew it. No female could resist using her powers, prying into places were no one was supposed to go. The mind was a sacred place, the one thing that was truly his own, guaranteed to be his no matter what, and of course she had no respect for that, just went barging in there, reading his thoughts, even though she had said she wouldn't!
If there was anything worse than a female using her powers, it was one who lied about them, he decided. But he couldn't kick her out, since they were nearly equals. He had to think of some way to get her out of there, the lying female. To think, he had started to let his guard slip by a few degrees, had let himself be lulled by the comfortable illusion that she was telling the truth! How stupid could he possibly be? He was Prime Alpha, and he hadn't gotten to that rank by making stupid mistakes like that. He knew to not trust the Queen, but he also knew to stay on he good side. He supposed the same philosophy would have to be applied to the Princess, now that she had accidentally revealed her true nature. Meaning there was no way he could straight out kick her out. But there had to be some subtle, roundabout way to get rid of her...
Though the entire thought process, though, he remained completely expressionless, betraying no sign of his emotion at all. He had learned to keep his emotions hidden, back when he was younger, and thought that was the way the Queen had managed to read him. But he knew better now. It was still a useful talent, though. The Princess would know what the had thought, since she was in his mind, but as far as he knew, no males had the hated mind-reading ability of the females. The stupid, lying, females.

She looedk down. She assumed he suddenly snapped because she read his mind or something, sald enough she hadn't. What she said was ture. And plus. Actually talking and not knowing what they would say all the time was fun.
Plus, the mind was special to oneself. Though she had never felt the Queen or anyone else in her mind before. Which, on her part was good. But she didn't know what it felt like. Only that Xerxes hated it. She wanted to kow why he changed. As if he got mad at her, ffor even a slight second. But she didn't want to go into his mind any farther then feelings, because that was the farthest out she could get for anyone, even the Queen.
She could never get completely out. Her "powers" kept her there. Even if she tried to pull out, it happened to anyone who was within reach. She still hated it. It was fun to drive people crazy, but then shed have noone to talk to actually.

he was in a bad state for a winner. Weak, stupid, or possibly both.> He wasn't sure which one he would rather have made Omega. They were both a pair of idiots.
She didn't try to apolgize when he realized what she was doing, and thus she would know he knew, and she didn't seem to delay, either, so either she was a fast thinker, had planned for this, or she truly hadn't been in his mind.
But what could she be planning, if she had planned her slip? He wanted to find out what plans she had. That was another way the females had of toying with him, letting a bit of information "slip", catching his interest, and never telling him more, or even giving him enough information to figure it out for himself.
If she was a fast enough thinker to have come up with a lie without any noticeable hesitation, then he would have to watch her. Anyone who could improvise that quickly was dangerous. Intelligence and plans weren't the only things that you needed to survive. You did need strength, and you did need to stay on the Queen's good side, and you needed to be able to improvise, in case a plan went south.
Then there was the third option, though, that she truly hadn't been in his mind, that the whole thing was just a coincidence. But the odds were too far against that for him to believe it. She was in his mind, and he was just going to have to accept he couldn't expect the truth out of her.
Considering how little reaction she had shown to his thoughts, though, he supposed that she didn't care what he thought of her. It wasn't as if the opinion of the Prime Alpha mattered when you were destined to be the ruler of the Damphousse, anyway.
But now he couldn't kick her out. Either something interesting might possibly be coming, or she was a fast enough thinker to be very dangerous, and you always wanted to keep an eye on your enemies, or those who could do you harm. Although he wasn't exactly used to enemies who could read his mind, giving them the advantage if he kept them close. What a dilema!
