I call out in my sleep...
Well, I've heard different things from different people and I'm a little confused.
I know that Lauri wrote the song Smash for his friend who died of a heroin overdose. But what this before or after the friend died?
The lyrics: Quote: I call out in my sleep, I can't reach you and it's killing me Could mean that he wanted to reach out to his friend to stop them taking the drug. Or it could mean that he couldn't reach them because they had died.
In an interveiw he just said something about it being for his friend who died of a heroin overdose, this doesn't necessarily mean that it was after the friend died that he wrote it. It could just mean he wrote the song for his friend - who has died of a heroin overdose since. Someone told me it was before the friend died and a few told me it was after. Does anyone know which it was?
EDIT: Ack, I'm such an idiot. I only just thought this might be better in Questions And Answers, sorry about that. sweatdrop I can move it there if you think I should but I can't delete the thread, gahh. gonk

Broken Feather EDIT: Ack, I'm such an idiot. I only just thought this might be better in Questions And Answers, sorry about that. sweatdrop I can move it there if you think I should but I can't delete the thread, gahh. gonk Actually, I think this would be best left here. Making a topic like this, to discuss meanings of song lyrics would be a really fun activity for the guild to take part in. (I'm going to change the topic title). ninja As for Smash, he might have been speaking in the past tense. About how he was wacthing his friend kill himself while he could do nothing, and now how he regrets in. This could have been the same friend he was talking about in "Shame" from Peep. 3nodding What does everyone else think? wink

I call out in my sleep... Ahh, yeah, that's a good idea! Thankss.
Ye, Shame could be talking about the same friend. I've also heard Still Standing is about that friend , it could be.. the bit about still standing could mean staying strong after the death. Quote: Can't you stop the lies falling from the skies, down on me. That bit sounds more like someone is lying about him though. Hmmm.
I think Shame is talking about the same friend but I'm not too sure about Still Standing... I can't reach you and it's killing me.

Broken Feather Quote: Can't you stop the lies falling from the skies, down on me.That bit sounds more like someone is lying about him though. Hmmm. rofl Your taking it that last part too literally. He means, "You can't stop the lies falling from the skies on me". Like, how rain falls down from the sky, so does all this guilt he's still struggling with, and he can't get rid of it, it feels like its building up and it keeps on coming. It might be that he first noticed that his friend had a drug problem during Peep, then through Playboys he might have joined in (Wicked Moments is kind of the feeling described by my mates when they get high. It makes them feel like they'll do stupid stuff just because it seemed funny at the time, and they feel self important, and thats the whole vibe I get from that song. OR maybe Jailer is about him going to see his friend in Jail and seeing how despreate he was to the guards?!), Maybe during Hell of a Tester they fell out or he didn't want to write about him. And in INTO Lauri's back in touch with him just before he died or He's heard he died from the addiction, and writes the song about he used to feel when he was telling him to get off the drugs. THEN in Dead Letters he still feels really guilty, like he could have been able to help more if he was around. wink Thats my theory anyhow.

To answer Broken Feather's question; I think the song is written after the friend died.. the feelings at that time must have been alot stronger I think.. neutral

(night after night) It could be.. but when you write your feelings down to paper you do so, when you're either very happy of very feeling down. and it's always somewhat .. excessive? That might explain the suicidal thing..

Now lets Assume that he's falling for something- or someone. And he's having either relationship issues or she left him (which explains the whole Angel theme this song has- she wacthes over him as he sleeps, she "haunt"s his dreams, nightmares ect, ect. "Everytime that I prayed" when ever he needs someone to love, to hang on to to give him stablity) But in real life she wants nothing to do with him, but he's so in love with the image and memories he has in his head, and he keeps on falling for this image of her... It's enough to make anyone suicidal. rolleyes

xD You really do like making stories. I think that story would work except the lyrics are "fool enough to fail again" but still, it could just mean that he fails at getting her attension and love in real life.

In the song Everyday there's this sentence: "I see you're not joking for the first time" What is meant: - he sees it for the first time or - the you-person isn't joking for the first time
I think the 2nd, but the first option is possible too, right? rolleyes

Wow, I hadn't thought about it the first way before. I think it's meant the second way but yeah, the first is possibly too. It always seemed to me that Everyday was a song about a relationship that used to be so good but now isn't working out - "We're running out of credit" so I fits that he'd be saying to them that they've never taken things seriously before. 3nodding

something I noticed: somebody screaming 'fire' (in the background) in Time To Burn as well as in Bullet! and I wondered about something else.. it's about Outflow. That song is about what you have to do to be able to please Lauri (or that's at least what I think it's about).. anyway.. I didn't know what Outflow meant, so I looked it up and it means something like 'flight'. Now I wonder what has Outflow to do with the rest of the song? surprised rolleyes confused
