Fighting the urge to lash his many tails and wings this way and that in an effort to vent some of his nervous energy, Cry Havoc instead carefully folds his large ears back against his skull and concentrates on meticulously placing his paws on the rocky ground he is currently traversing. Stones shift and skitter now and then, nudged loose by his paws and rumbling over each other as he slightly alters direction. His steps are neither heavy nor light, but deliberate, thoughtful. He'd rather step on rough rock than trample wildflowers, though the patches of stone and gravel are becoming fewer as the grass grows thicker and longer. He's nearly to his destination, out of the mountain pass and into some neutral stretch of forest with meadows suitable for hosting quiet gatherings.

It seemed like it would be the best sort of place to have the initial meeting... Close to the territories that some of the others would be traveling from, but beyond the herd's actual lands and their most frequently traversed extensions of habitat. Not close enough to risk that the herd might feel he is trespassing, hopefully not even close enough that they guess at him being there... But close enough to meet those that would be traveling from the herd, close enough to be convenient.

"We're making an effort though we've never met any of them before." Cry Havoc murmured to his companion, trying not to sulk about the whole matter. "What makes you think they'll even be interested in speaking to us?"

The mutant she-fox known as Cherry Garcia or 'Uncle' had not wanted to miss whatever this would end up being. The journey was a long one for her little strides so she alternated bounding along on her own four paws and perching on the young stallion's hindquarters to survey their surroundings as the mood took her. It was good to change things up, considering how much longer his strides were and the length of distance they needed to travel to get to their destination. Plus it gave him something else to focus and brood over, getting him out of his head and back into the present.

"Everyone is making an effort, Havoc." Cherry responded in a gentle tone, soothing but firm. "Don't pout, hmmm? She wanted to reach out and make some connection, and that is why we are here. To do just that. No one is asking you to make each other your new favorite thing in the world. But you are cousins, you should at least be able to get through one in-person meeting, right?"

To say that Narwa Carnimírië is accustomed to being part of a large family is something of an understatement. Though the pairing of two adults resulting in baskets is the very nature of things, a common occurrence, the particulars in her case are somewhat unique. As far as she understood it, most Spirits were known to be mischievous, capricious, generous and spiteful... and at times, the local Spirits of the Soquili Lands would be precisely that, their attention caught by an individual or a pair. In the case of Avalyn and Lalita, the Spirits had evidently been intrigued, and apparently they were inclined to be both mischievous and generous... and perhaps a little more besides. Whatever their motivations had been, they had bestowed upon the couple not two or three children, or even four or six... But over a hundred. A never ending parade of baskets, all at once.

The Flock had never seen a growth boom like it, and probably never would again... unless the Spirits felt like being kind, or cruel, or just silly and wild. Of course, a hundred foals were too much for one pair to deal with, but the Flock had always been about the shared experience of tasks and the rearing of young... Even so, the dispersal of over a hundred foals had been quite an undertaking, the employment of foster mothers necessary.

Narwa had been adopted or at least raised by her aunt, Teleri Lindaii, her mother's sister. She along with several siblings had grown up in the Flock under Teleri's guidance, and then some of them had traveled with her out to Faires and Festivals. Seeing the world outside of the Flock, Narwa had also found out her 'mother' had children outside of the herd... which meant of course, she had to meet them.

"Just a casual day where you meet your siblings slash cousins." She mused to herself. "Let's do this."

"I am just saying I do not understand why we are doing this." Havoc mumbles, faced with Cherry's relentless logic but refusing to cave without a sufficient resistance to the whole idea. "So they are cousins, so what? Distant kin means little. For all you know they're going to be so self-important by virtue of bloodlines they won't even bother to think well of us. We're just pesky little relatives courtesy of puckish spirits and Wishing Stars."

Giving a low growl at the thought, he swipes idly at a small cairn of rocks and sends the stones to scattering. There's no moss on them to indicate age to the little structure, and the present more of a risk to local wildlife if he allows them to stand. And perhaps also the skittering of shale is somewhat soothing, in the absence of rain or wind through heavy trees.

Instead of permitting himself to be soothed, Havoc finds that rather he is just hitting his stride with regards to the topic. The rant is incoming, and only the rocks and Cherry are here to witness it. Well, still better than saying it in front of his cousins and being read the riot act for hurting potentially delicate sensibilities.

"They've never taken an interest in their lives outside of their fancy herd. For all you know there could be hundreds of cousins and we don't even bear mentioning. What then?"

A voice that sounds suspiciously like Cherry is already chirping in his head. 'Just say you're worried that you'll meet your cousin or a half sister and suddenly perfectly understand why your mother cared more about them...'

Stupid inner saboteur.

"Well, I would certainly hope you're not going to be quite so foolish as to question something that has already been so clearly explained." Cherry gives a mockingly dismissive snort, flicking one of her large ears and blinking all of her eyes in a way that conveys her level of insouciance. "That being said, you do remain breathtakingly stubborn about the whole thing. I am forced to wonder where you obtained such a trait, from what I have seen both of your parents are far more reasonable than you appear to be acting at the moment."

She allows a few beats to pass in silence, then flashes him a sharp toothed, sly eyed grin. "Of course, they are both ladies... Perhaps therein lies your problem?"

Males. So unreasonable.

Cherry heaves a sigh as Havoc apparently gets right into the meat of his discontent, flicking her tail to rattle at him in the hopes she interrupts the train of thought before it completely goes off the rails.

"Pup," she murmurs, soft and gentle but unyielding. "Maybe they didn't know, hmm? How would they? Or, say that they did? Maybe all they wanted was to get beyond the border of the lands they knew, to find the family that they had heard was out here. But they lacked the resources, the opportunity, the freedom to do so. We don't know what things are like there, what the rules are, how they get their information... Without someone telling them, how is a foal to know the world is out there? Much less that there are relatives out there, even in the form of sulky young wolves, that want to meet them? Try not to take it all so personally. Until we talk to them, we do not know what they know, nor for how long. It's not fair to hold things against them that they have no way of knowing, understanding, or overcoming. I won't let them blame you for not coming to find them, their herd lands are surely unsafe. So then, I won't let you blame them either, alright?"

"Maybe arriving early, or at least -this early- indicates that you're nervous... but at least there's no one here to call you on it at the moment?" Narwa murmured to herself as she paced around the little glade they had set as a meeting place.

The selected territory was well outside of herd lands, which meant there was no threat to those who were supposed to meet with her. Hopefully it was also a convenient travel distance, though that part was harder to estimate. Narwa herself had flown in, which meant the journey was not so long or perilous as it might have been if taken on the ground... but again, she was nervous. An advantage or two felt necessary, to help her keep her cool.

The flight meant she wasn't still scaling her way up the rocky inclines that lead to this little cluster of trees and the sweet meadow they encircled. Of course, depending on how long it took for the other parties to arrive, she might be well and truly lathered up if she doesn't tone down her pacing.

'Cool down, cool down.' Narwa scolded herself, concentrating on relaxing her muscles and slowing her pace to more of a cool down than a work up. 'You don't know how long it will take them to arrive, or how long this meeting will last... Pace yourself, maybe.'

A pity none of her siblings had the time to go along with her this time... She had hoped that Greyes at least would, but it's hard to compete with a new mate when your offer on the table is a potentially awkward family reunion with relatives you didn't exactly know you had before now.

Come to think of it, Narwa would have told herself no too. Therefore, it's impossible to hold it against Greyes. Besides, she'd surely come along next time. Assuming this went well enough to warrant a next time.

Havoc feels his ears swing down and back, laying back in reaction to the quiet, mild, not quite a scolding he was receiving so expertly from the tiny fox he often called 'Uncle'. Her words were not sharp or cutting but somehow lanced his heart, prompting a slightly bashful duck of his head.

'I would hope you're not going to be quite so foolish.' She had said, therefore implying, well... She certainly expected some foolishness. And also that she didn't think -what was worse than foolish?- he was above being even worse than expected, whatever that may entail. Or course then she kept on, and he was treated to the assessment 'breathtakingly stubborn', and the implied 'unreasonable', when compared to the traits she had witnessed in his mothers. Ahh, so that was it then. A mildly scorching assessment of his character and a breathtakingly backhanded but blistering review on his gender.

Well, now he felt thoroughly shamed.

"Sorry, Uncle," Havoc concedes with a bow of his head and a tightening of his little folded wings as if he is absorbing the blow of the implied shame. "I am sure you are right... I am nervous and it is making me unbearable. I don't mean to assassinate their characters without even knowing them. It's unfair to imply any such thing. If I didn't know at first, how could they. And even if they did know, who is to say that they could get away at all, even as adults, to try and forge connections they may not be aware of. That's unfair of me."

Before he can adopt a lighter topic or course correct, the rocky ground they're pacing on levels out and there's a copse of trees ahead that Havoc has been informed to look for. They have arrived.
