Just wondering what your opinion is on them. I remember during my most active years in fanfiction (2005-2007), disclaimers had to be on every single chapter and people often got kind of creative with them (making them into running jokes or something, while at the same time getting them to do their job as a disclaimer). I recently had a discussion with one of my best friends and she mentioned that disclaimers aren't as necessary now, that by the fanfic being on a fanfic site people know that the characters are only being borrowed and not generating any profit for the fanfic writer. I hadn't really been paying attention to disclaimers that people were writing (or not writing), but our discussion definitely got me thinking, especially about my own fanfics and disclaimers.

So what are your thoughts on them?

I will say one of my thoughts (from the poll options), is that, as a reader, I find disclaimers in summaries to be annoying and to bog them down with non-summary text. When I'm reading a summary, that's all I really want to be reading to help me determine whether or not I want to read the story. I don't want to see author's notes, or disclaimers, or anything else like that in a summary.

I'm boring and copy-paste the same disclaimer to even chapter of a story. But I have a practical purpose for this. I work on multiple stories at once, and have multiple documents from different stories open at once. So having tailored disclaimers for each helps me remember which document I'm looking at when I first sit down to continue a fic.
