 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ◆◆ Alyssa Rose ◆◆ James Preston ◆◆ xxxAlyssa rolled over in her bed at hearing her phone alarm start to go off. Turning it off she sighed to herself as she stared at the ceiling. It was Monday. She was not a fan of Monday's. She had to go back to school. Not that she detested school, it was just having to go back after a weekend. Getting out of her bed she walked over the her dresser and found her black patterson blouse with a white collar and a pain of skinny jeans. She was graduating that year and still had no idea what she was going to do with her life. People always tried suggesting college but to her that sounded like signing up for four year of stress filled hell. After putting on her outfit for the day she brushed out her hair before heading to the kitchen. She needed to find something to eat. Once reaching the kitchen she saw the bright orange post-it on the fridge. Running a hand through her hair she knew practically what it would say. Peeling it off she read it. Of course her parents had to take off on a sudden trip to who knows where to be back who knows when. Tossing it in the trash she found some fruit for her breakfast. About twenty minutes later she was fully ready to go. Grabbing her car keys from her bedside table she left the house and made sure it was locked before getting into her car to head to school.

xxxJames let his alarms continue to blare as he remained laying face into his pillow. He didn't want to get up or even go to school. He just wanted to graduate and get out of this place. He didn't want to stay for the rest of the year. He wanted to take his microphone and speakers, jump into his truck, and take off to California. That's all he wanted. He didn't care about the grades he was making or how some of the teachers called him combative for arguing that the standardized test system is useless. Getting annoyed with the continuous beeping of the alarm he turned over and squinted at the phone screen so he wouldn't be blinded by full brightness at 6:30 am. Satisfied at the silence he rolled over again to bury his face back into his pillow and drift back into the and of sleep. OCC: Sorry if it's bad I never really know how to start these

► Ella hummed to herself as she tapped away on her laptop, her ears covered by large sound concealing headphones. She woke up early to work on some personal projects, some novels, a few drawings and even arranging a small song. As she finished off a sentence, her eyes caught the time. She let out a sigh, dreading the idea of school. She wasn't a loner or an introvert, she was actually quite outgoing and witty, but she wasn't good at making first impressions. She hadn't made friends with anyone new since elementary, all her friends were either mutual friends or family friends. Ever since her childhood group branched off, it seemed dim for her. She didn't really care, all she needed to do was finish off the year and he was out. Closing her laptop, she slipped let her headphones hang around her neck and grabbed her school bag.
The drive to school was short and painless, and Ella had arrived with at least fifteen minutes to spare. She parked under a large tree and got out, placing her headphones back on as she walked into the school building.

Truth be told, Andy liked working, it kept his mind off of what was going on around him. He had been told countless times that he overworked himself, but he was perfectly healthy. "That's all. Thanks for your help Andy." Mr. Brunes said as Andy finished stacking one last pile of paper. Andy gave a kind smile, nodding his head in response, "No problem Mr. Brunes, ask me anytime!" he replied as he slung his bag over his shoulder and left the classroom.

Getting out she saw Ella walking into the school. They used to be childhood friends but hadn't spoken in years. Walking to the passengers she she pulled out her bag before locking the car. Walking in people avoided her slightly. Not because they were afraid of her. At least she hoped they weren't afraid of her. She somehow ended up being the queen bee of the high school. At her locker she quickly unlocked it to put her bag in and take out her things for her first two periods. Calculus and Government, then she had a free period to do something for an hour. No one she was friends with had a free period at the same time so she was left with people she didn't talk to.

► Ella walked quietly through the hallways, keeping her head down and not attracting any attention. The moment she looked up, she noticed Alyssa at her own locker. Alyssa was an old friend, emphasis on was. Their little group broke off years ago, she couldn't remember the last time she hung out with them all. James was never at school, Andrew was busy with everyone else and Alyssa was Queen Bee. In other words, they were all unapproachable. Biting her lip, she walked past Alyssa with haste and made it to her own locker. She had a spare in her third period, to which she planned on going home to finish up some errands. After grabbing all her things, she rushed off to her first class.

As he was on his way to his first class, he was beckoned by a certain balding man, who he recognized as Mr. Green. He walked over to him, nodding his head, "Yes sir? he answered, wondering what he was called over for. Mr. Green placed a hand on Andy with a grin, "Andrew, I've got a favour to ask," he started, to which Andy nodded his head, "A little birdy told me you used to be good friends with Alyssa Rose. I need you to convince her to compete in the matchmaker contest." he ended. Andy blinked, finding the idea bizarre. The matchmaker contest was an event the school held. Those participating were put in pairs with someone completely random, the pairs competed in a series of games to win the contest. Andy hadn't spoken to Alyssa in years, so the idea of convincing her to join was completely out of the picture. "Great! I'll take your silence as a yes!" Mr. Green said quickly before escaping. "Wait-- Sir!" Andy called, but the man had left before he could convince him otherwise.

She made relatively good grades but no one in her group of friends really cared about that sort of stuff. They all seemed to avoid the topic as if it was taboo. That was fine they had other tings they could talk about. Ella, Andrew, James, and her were all friends in elementary school then they all just drifted apart. James attendance dropped over the years, Andrew focused so much on academics, Ella was shy when it came to new people, and she was pretty social. Walking into her first class he sat with some people from the soccer team that she knew.

xxxJames continued to sleep until halfway through the first period. Glancing at the time he just brushed it off. "I guess I'll go during my free period" he said to the silence of his room. He had figured out how many of the classes each week he actually needed to attend to graduate. He needed to go to each of them three times each week. He kept to that. He didn't want to be kept back only because he didn't attend enough classes.OCC: I love the idea it's going to add some humor.

► Ella's first class was a bore. She spent most of it drawing or jotting down ideas. She wasn't a bad student, she just didn't see the point in learning something so easy. When the class had ended, she spent her second period doing the same thing, waiting for it to end. When her agony was over, she put her stuff in her locker and left the school building to kill time. She got in her car and drove home, letting out a sigh as she pulled up to her driveway. Shutting the door lightly behind her, she felt her eyes drawn to the house across the street, James' house. She knew for a fact that he would be skipping, most likely still sleeping in his room. Part of her wandered if she should knock on his door, ask him if needs a ride or something. It was unlikely, but she had been planning on initiating conversation with her old friends again. She didn't like the way their group split off, it seemed unfinished. As she danced around the thought, her eyes stayed glued to his home.

He felt awkward trying to convince her to do something like this. Needless to say, he couldn't focus on his first two classes. He took down the notes and did the work, but he wasn't alert enough to understand it. After his second class had ended, he decided it was time to just address the problem. Summoning his courage, he searched around for the brunette, catching her down the hall. Letting out a sigh, he raised and arm to catch attention, "Alyssa!" He called, approaching her with light steps, "Could I, uh, talk to you?"

"Sure what do you want to talk about?" she asked. She had plenty of time so she could stop and talk with him. She was very unsure on what this was about. She hadn't talked to Andrew in years, and didn't really understand that after all this time he would make some attempt to talk with her.

xxxJames got out of bed and just threw something on. He really didn't care what it was, being tall and lanky made him stand out enough. He didn't really know anyone at school, well that was a lie. He knew his old friends who he never talked to. They all lived close by still but nothing was ever said between them. Walking around his house he started to sing to himself a song for a cover his band was working on. Glancing out the window he saw Ella's home. He thought it would be interesting if the four of them actually talked again.OCC:

► As Ella stared at James' home, she suddenly saw a figure appear in the second floor window. She jumped in surprise, taking a step backward and falling into one of the garbage cans. Losing her balance, she completely flopped backwards and onto on the ground, causing a loud crash to sound. "Eep!" she squealed, wincing from slight pain. Thankfully, the garbage had missed her body, but she had easily attracted a lot of attention, feeling embarrassed, she jumped up in surprise and brushed herself off.

Surely this wouldn't work, surely she would look at him with disgust or judgement. Still, he promised to try and he kept his promises. Rubbing the back of his neck, he purposely avoided eye contact as he spoke, "Soo.... I, er, just wanted to.... you see, I.... There's this.... ugh...." he stuttered, unsure on how to word this. Letting out a soft groan, his eyes dropped at his feet as he shuffled awkwardly, "I... have a weird request to make... Nothing major, just a.... small favor?"

"What's the favor?" she asked cautiously. She had no reason not to trust him but this just was odd. Hearing the bell ring "If you have class you can ask me later." she suggested. She had no idea what his schedule was and had no idea if she was holding him up from going to class.

xxxJames opened the window so he could sit on the window sill. It was something he usually did. Sit in the window and just sing to himself. Swinging his legs out into the open he leaned up against the side of the window. Starting back up the song he looked out at nothing in particular. He usually did this when he wasn't at school. He would freak out a few people sometimes by sitting there on the second floor window. It wasn't like he was going to jump or anything. Looking across the street to Ella's house he couldn't help but to wonder if she was home.OCC:

► Ella quickly made a b-line for her house door, feeling the eyes of strangers watching her. She dug out her house key, about to scurry back inside, when she heard a voice. The song itself was familiar, but the voice was hard to decipher. She looked up, trying to spot the source when she noticed a boy hanging in the sill of his window. She stared at him for a moment, examining him. He looked familiar. It took her longer than expected to realize it was James. Her eyes were glued to him, watching him in a trance.

Letting out a sigh, he decided to just spit it out. There was no harm in trying, yet. "Ok... so, you know the Matchmaker Contest thing?" he started, taking a pause to let it sink in, "Do you think you could... sign up?" he said in a softer voice, waiting for some sort of laughter or mockery.

"I wasn't thinking about joining but I guess I could." she had allot of free time now so it wouldn't hurt. "Do you know what they have planned for it this year?" she asked. If not she would have to go find the teacher in charge later.
