Over the past couple of years I hear more and more women my age (20-30) saying they don't kids. Which is perfectly fine in my eyes. The pope says it's a selfish decision. Some say it's stupid ánd selfish. But let's just be honest, it's our choice. Even when I voice my decision (no kids), people look at me confused. They don't understand it, even if I explain them why. My own sister wants me to have a kid so she can be an aunt (now who's selfish?). How do you think about woman who don't want to have kids? About woman who have no kids.

I do not see why it is anyone's bossiness other then yours and your partners. And to be honest I am the opposite. When people tell me they are going to have a kid I think why would you want to do that.

When people tell me they are going to have a kid I think why would you want to do that. It isn't anyone's business. But at my place, where are a lot of women, it is sometimes the subject of the day > Babies. Makes me want to start about my pets instead. lol

Why not? If you told them about Gandalf they would be scared but it would definitely interrupt the conversation they are having. I guess I am kinda mean.

I can totally imagine this. Woman: "Look at this cute baby my friend has" Me: "Look, Gandalf just shed! Look at this man. So cool. I'm so proud of him!" *shows picture and they all scream in disgust* emotion_dealwithit

I know several couples who have chosen not to reproduce for various reasons and OMG who am I to weigh in on their personal decision? Even when it was my sister popping out baby after baby after baby and everyone was begging her to stop I kept my mouth shut. Seriously. stare
I didn't plan to become a father until *late* and people had pretty much given up on me. I had no interest in children and would have been a terrible parent if I had done it just to please other people. Who would wish that on a child? Once the paternal instinct kicked in, totally different story.

If I get one more stranger or acquaintance saying i'll change my mind i'm going to hit someone. Ever since I was a kid I have never wanted to spawn, now at almost 30 I still feel that way. I enjoy the way my life is and have no desire to change any of it to work around children, ick.
What annoys the hell out of me is people whom I barley know (like coworkers) who tell me I have to have children and will change my mind because I am a female. No I wont change my mind, and its none of your business, unless your going to treat our male coworkers the same way then, ugg go away.
@ yule cat and Shadowdancer: Always show your pets, I do with Sammy the bunny and if they are really not taking the no kids hint i'll bring out pics of my fish. also what kind of snake you you have? I love the reptiles.

Having kids is a selfish act, in my opinion. Unless you have some incredible, rare genetic attribute, it's pure indulgence.
I have a cousin who's electing not to have children. I'll admit that when I found out I was a little sad, because she's beautiful and her husband's smart and musical and just generally cool (not so beautiful, but not a dumpster fire). I want a little rock band of quarter-native cousins, once removed! But I stuffed that, as I think any decent person would, that s**t hurts, and until scarcity is antiquated, 1 child or fewer per household , please.

Yule Cat Egyptian Shadowdancer Oh how boring. Talk about your pets then because they are your babies. biggrin It's tempting. emotion_dowant Do it. But when you do, just start talking about them like they aren't animals at first... Like... Yeah... Little Freya tried to kill the dog again and bit her Father. And Peam tried to attack the neighbor that came into our yard uninvited... And we bought a new cage for little Benny... We plan to butcher Rosemary sometime around January. And Dixie will be bred next Spring. Oh no, not to her brother. He was castrated. (Freya - Cat, Father - Husband, Peam - Dog, Rosemary - Chicken, Dixie & her Brother - Goats.) I've done this. I've also given bizarre parenting advice. For example: Parent: Timmy won't stop X. I'm afraid he is going to hurt himself! Me: Leash him to you so you can supervise him 24/7. Parent: Thats impractical / I'm not going to leash my child / I can't watch him all the time. Me: You could crate him? Parent: Are you serious? Me: Or how about a shock collar? They're best used for aversion training anyways. Parent: .... Are you serious? Me: Worked to keep my dog away from venomous snakes when out in the field. *innocent look* After a while, the women stop questioning why I don't have kids.

No I wont change my mind, and its none of your business, unless your going to treat our male coworkers the same way then, ugg go away. Yes! I have had some harsh words for DOCTORS that have said things like this to me over contraception requests. I *finally* got a Doctor who, upon hearing I never wanted kids and wanted a more reliable way to prevent them (I can no longer use OCPs and condoms don't cut it), said "Good idea, dogs are better anyways." As for random people who say it, I start questioning their life choices. Oh you want kids? How much you want a bet you regret your choice before I regret mine? The difference is: I can remedy my choice, yours will be permanent. It may be a bit harsh and rude, but so is the demeaning, patronizing assumption that as a woman I don't know my own mind, lack free will and can only make a pre-programmed choice and how naive and silly of me to think otherwise.

OK. I am autistic, and I was bullied throughout school, so I decided not to have kids in order to spare them the suffering I went through. Also, I cannot afford to have kids at this time due to my autism (aka no on will hire or marry me). There is usually a very good reason behind the person's child choice. Respect their choices.
