Marcus loved to go shopping with his dads, it was like going to Candyland or to a place where everything you imagined became a reality. From simple things like eggs and bacon on a shelf to pairs of pants and gold bangles, the shops had everything you could ever ask for! Well, of course, he had to ask his dads really nicely for things he wanted, and sometimes he had to deal with a no in return. You can't always have everything you want, they say, and nothing seemed to ever change that answer. Even if he did all his chores and asked very very politely. There were some things you just couldn't have no matter what, he supposed.
But, apparently, a giant slice of watermelon wasn't one of those forbidden things.
"I'll be here, daddy!" Marcus called, his face covered in watermelon juice. He chomped down on his slice as his fathers and siblings went into another fancy clothes shop while he ate his watermelon. He wasn't allowed to go in with his favorite food, but that was okay, he didn't feel like changing and trying on new things over and over again anyway. He was just fine sitting here on the edge of this fountain in the middle of a busy shopping center with his giant watermelon at his side!
Mmm, okay, maybe he was a little lonely, and full. He had already chopped into half of the watermelon already! Maybe someone in the crowd wanted to share the rest with him?

Xian-He and Amadeus were out shopping for clothes, mostly because Amadeus was unimpressed with Xian-He's "out-of-date" fashion sense. ("Who wears Han-fuu in this day and age? People keep on thinking we're out promoting a samurai movie. Ridiculous! I mean, samurai are Japanese, not Chinese, jeeze!") So there they were, Amadeus with his list of items he figured Xian-He needed to look "respectable" and Xian-He just strolling from store to store, hands clasped behind his back and paying little to no attention to Amadeus.
The good news of being loaded meant the two children didn't need to lug around heavy bags of their exploits, the stores were more than willing to send their purchases to the Wolfe mansion.
The bad news is that being loaded doesn't spare feet from getting sore from all the walking they've been doing.
Shifting his weight from foot to foot underneath his robes, Xian-He decided (without telling Amadeus) that it was time to rest; the big fountain they were passing seemed like a perfect place for just that.
