Now I'm not limiting this to fanfiction, although it definitely applies here, but I was just curious. I'm not talking about the cheesy, poorly done, the villain/villainess because of their attraction/love for the hero/heroine that they will realize the error of their ways and immediately convert to the hero side to repent for what they have done. I'm talking about the more believable, well developed, high intensity villainxhero that will almost never work out with high emotions and conflicts.

Personally, I love them! When they are done right that is! I love it when it inevitably comes to one or both of the characters questioning their beliefs. I also just tend to really like reading romances when one or both loves interests HATE each other!

....

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a weirdo. xD Anyways, I was just curious on others opinions on the matter.

I guess that’s classified as angst since there is the element of doubt and the questioning of beliefs. Unfortunately, not a lot of people enjoy reading angst since all they are in search of is escapism. Personally, I love to read and write angst because of how sinfully enjoyable it is to watch characters struggle in a very realistic, human way. The whole “sunshine, rainbows and flowers” scene isn’t really my cup of tea, so I like the VillainxHero.

The “opposites attract” theory comes into play with this pairing and it often makes for an interesting series of events that leads to either the sigh of relief and reunion or the agonizing split and realization that love doesn’t always prevail. It’s always nice to see the romance/feelings develop at a pace that rivals the slowness of molasses. I’m not a “jump right in” kind of gal. wink

Oh. I wouldn't have classified it as angst. Typically to me angst is the emotastic, nothing good ever happens kind of story. THOSE aren't my cup of tea. I figured it would be more drama kinda deal, but when you put it that way, I can see what you mean. :3

I rarely like canon/ goodxgood pairings. They are just so boring to me! It's just no fun to read/write about a couple that already has all of the chemistry there they just have to come out about their feelings. Or at least it's not to me. xD

One of my favorite pairings is Lotor/Allura (or Sincline/Fala if you watch the Japanese version) from Voltron. I love the infatuation on Lotor's side. Sometimes its so strong that it drives him a little crazy and he acts out in unpredictable ways -sometimes inadvertently helping the Lions, sometimes actually supporting his own side. He's completely psycho. And that's canon, no fan fiction needed. Of course, that just makes the actual fan fictions about them all the more entertaining.

Also, within certain issues and certain canons of the DC multi-verse, it has been hinted that Lex Luthor is secretly infatuated with Superman. Not in a sexual way, but it is an obsession that sometimes manifests in similar ways to "toxic love".

Do I write villain/hero fan fictions? The only one I have written was for Lotor/Allura and I never finished it.

As an aside, I'd just like to comment that I actually prefer rival/rival, or enemy/enemy romance as opposed to villain/hero. Simply because the best stories don't have such clear-cut morals as that. The best romances have well rounded partners, and a well rounded character is shades of gray, not black and white.

Like Alistair always whining about your negative choices? Then yes, I’m on that boat! A good conflict of morals always acts as a catalyst for more powerful feelings. Besides, it’s rather dull if the characters agree on everything and are basically exact copies of each other. I crave conflict like some kind of masochist. Wow… I’m some sort of sicko, eh? rofl

Well conflict is the founding basis for stories. Whether it's internal or external. So, no, I wouldn't say you are a sicko. xD

But what’s your take on the issue of the Love Triangle in fanfiction? I know this is off-topic, but personally for me I find it a bit of a cliché to make an OC seem desirable. It’s doable, yes, but it’s hardly ever done well without making one character a complete buffoon and another a total trollop, especially if canon characters are used and their personalities don’t fit with such a love affair. It just seems too unrealistic, even for fiction. Bordering on fanservice, I guess. If you know of a fic that has a well written love triangle then I’d love to see it! I’ll take notes.

Please... have mercy! You're brining back suppressed memories... I'm flashing back to the war- neutral wait a minute.

Was I the only one bothered by the spelling/grammar mistakes made in that published novel? Well, series of novels...

Triangles are fun! If they're done right! xD Here's one I think you might like:

Unfortunately it's only a one-shot but I felt that it was very well written, all the characters were IN character and it wasn't a stretch. biggrin I wish there was more though! xD

No dear, many of us were greatly bothered by that. In fact, that's one of the grievances listed on the first page of the "Why We Hate Twilight" thread in the Books forum.

As to your question of love-triangles, the only good ones I have ever read have been with CCs, no OCs. The triangle doesn't have to be a canon triangle, or even have a canon pair for two of the sides, just so long as the characters are canon characters and not OCs. In my personal experience, OCs make better villains or MacGuffins than they do romantic interests.
