They say, every few years, a creature of pure joy returns to the human village. She brings tales of various experiences, new people she met, and fascinating discoveries. The creature in question is named Hanalli, The Youkai of Joy.
Unlike her siblings, Hanalli's presence causes smiles and warmth to radiate through the people in the village. Cats purr and dogs wag their tails in joy. Her power to manipulate joy very well sends the place in a good mood. This however made Hanalli question her own status. She consulted with two other people that she has grown not only fond of but treat like family of her own. It has dawned on Hanalli that the longer she stays in the village, the more devoted the people would become. The more devoted they become, the more they would lead to a life of insanity to please her any way possible. Her friend acknowledges her choice. A promise was made. "I promise to come back every few years. On the first day, everyone shall welcome me. The second, a festival. The third day, a farewell party." she said from the bottom of her heart. Her friend agreed...
And so, a festival is held every few years for three days. The first is all about welcoming Hanalli back and telling new experiences, young and old. The second, a festival begins. Complete with games and food as well as what Hanalli has brought from the outside that she made called... 'Mirror of Smiles'. This mystical mirror can force a smile on anyone. No matter their mood. Unlike her joy buns, the mirror reflects the person on what they enjoy most out of life. Whether it be love for a significant other or the wildlife, the Mirror of Smiles reminds the person about what makes them happy. And on the third day, a feast is held where Hanalli is given samples of the various establishments and people have cooked for her. then as she takes off, the people sing the song that carries in the wind. Of course no one knows the name of it.

It seemed the village was louder than usual. From the crevice that was the teacher's office, Keine watched through a window from her seat at her desk.
She had overwatched the village for quite some time, and an old friend of the village, the youkai of joy, was due for a visit. It had become a tradition to prepare the feasting and do you best. But here she was, working despite it being a weekend. The were-beast sighed, debating on stepping outside rather than staying in side grading papers.
Well, it would be just this weekend, the teacher coul afford working the night of the full moon, it wasn't as if she slept either way. With that, she closed the grade book and stood, heading out the door and to the bustling town square where the celebration was occuring.
She smiled to all those that greeted her. Keine, at least, had a good reputation, and with her secret fairly concealed, there was little the villagers could hold against her. And so she walked the new stands and other things being prepared....

The village was filled with much chatter among themselves. They waited for her arrival with much anticipation. Some questioned if she would bring new stories. Others hoped it was a new creature. Whatever she brought, it would all be joy. "Up there!" One cried out as he pointed to the sky. What looked like a small human flew very fast towards the center of the village. The air grew with a warm sensation of the crowd, hailing her down and calling her by name. Hanalli. Just as she was about to make it to the landing zone, The crowd was stunned to witness three black tendons burst from the ground and restraining her body from hitting the stone. "Nahumar? Was it really necessary to use your tendonds?" The voice of a calm but sadden youkai emanated from the southern part of the crowd. She stood fairly tall with her kimono and long hair. The crowd gasped at her appearance in the village. Then, a scream came from the opposite end as a path was cleared in an instance to let through a tall man, wearing a long jacket of white. Three tendons came from his back as they grabbed Hanalli and rested her on the ground. "Sorry, but you could not make it in time before she smashed into the ground, Sorrina." A rock was thrown by one of the males. "HEY! What are you doing?!" "Let Hanalli Go, monster!" "Get out!" The words were all aimed at Nahumar's very presence. Sorrina was always welcomed in the end. "Please, we both have a reason to be here." Sorrina approached Nahumar who was now carrying Hanalli in his arms. "Hanalli...why today?" The question in the air was mostly about Hanalli. What exactly happened? Her skin was dimmer and her body looked weak. Many blamed the two helping her, many not knowing Nahumar at all to be a sibling. Hanalli could barely open her eyes as she looked around. "H-hey...I'm back again." Out of all the days of her return, something had happened.

Keine watched this, a relatively tall woman, she was capable of looking over a few shoulders, and if not, her toes could give her an extra inch. So Hanalli had arrived, and the tendons entrapped her, Keine blinked.
As the crowd begun to threaten Nahumar, a being Keine knew (or heard of) enough to know he did not mean any harm. She moved past the crowd,"Let them be!" The teacher ordered, "Stand back." She begun to clear a small perimeter around Hanalli, Nahumar, and Sorina.
From her point, the were-beast could see the lack of luster from the usually beaming Joy Youkai,"I think there is something wrong with her." The woman moved a bit closer, carefully, and still trying to keep the crowd at a bay."Is something the matter?"

Hanalli noticed Keine, forcing a smile. "No. N-nothing is wrong." her voice was obviously weaker. Nahumar shook his head. "No you are not. Look at you! It's that time of your life again and you forced yourself to fly." He scolded Hanalli, for once a smile on her face. "I'm sorry...I had a promise-" "What good is the promise if you used up your own power!' Sorrina took Hanalli as Nahumar looked at the teacher. "You must forgive our presence and sort of breaking the neutrality of the Youkai Human Rules. Once every five hundred years, Hanalli will loose her power to spread joy in order to rest. Unlike Fear and Sorrow, Joy is absorbed instead of released from the body. A being of pure joy means she can overload at any time. So she takes this power down state to help cool herself. While she is like this, Hanalli is unable to even use the basic Danmaku Cards she made or fly without straining herself." Sorina looked over at Hanalli, attempting to make her stand on her feet as her body was supported by Sorina's arm. Seeing her like this could cause even more depression. "So how do we fix it?!" one panicked. "You can not fix it. Let the cool down run it's course. In the meantime, you all should not stop her festival. She is still the same Hanalli as you knew, just weaker." Sorina narrated. Hanalli tugged her robe like an innocent child to whisper in her ear. "Hm? What did she say?" "U-umm, she wants a woman named Keine to watch over her for now." Nahumar sighed, looking at the teacher. "Well, seeing as the description that Hanalli talked about in the past...you must be that teacher. She really appreciates the hospitality you gave her when we first arrived and it seems she wants you to help her as well...Speaking of, since she is weak, we wish to stay in the village until she is able to fly on her own. We want to make sure she will be safe, for she is like any human now." He asked and offered. Sorina guided Hanalli to Keine, offering the half sized Hanalli to Keine by the hand. She looked more like a human child than a tall teenager by now. "Sorry..." Hanalli said to Keine. "Now, Mind some humans would like to show Nahumar and I around? This is going to be exciting!" Her siblings walked off to see the place in full.

Keine listened carefully. So it seemed Hanalli was as fine as she could be under the situation. She kept back the villagers who worried,"You have heard the youkai speak; let this flow it's course and continue with your work." She had grown to be somewhat of an advisor to the village so some seemed to hesitantly back down. A warm comforting smile appeared in Keine's lips,"Be calm, she will be fine as they have said, there is nothing to worry about."
As Nahumar spoke her name, many turned to look at the were-beast, as if indicating her with pointed fingers. Kamishirasawa blinked as orina walked the now small child to her, who took her hand. Keine was definitely confused but children she could deal with; She was a teacher afterall.
"There is no reason to be Sorry, Hinalli," She once more smiled through her confusion,"I do not mind over watching you while you return to normal." Keine looked to some brave villagers take the task to tour the strange Youkai around.Let the humans handle the tourists, a voice in her head said,You tend to the Youkai of Joy, for both yours and the villagers peace of mind.
With that, the woman dressed in blue looked down at Hanalli, "What is it you want to do? If rest is what you need I can take you to my home where you can sleep to your content or eat if you see fit." Keine never hesistated to offer her stead to anyone in need.

Hanalli shook her head at the offer. "Rest is something I can not do. It's rare to even meet my old friend again. Let's talk." She smiled, her strength returning in her voice. Her body was still dim as ever though as the day continued on. Once they arrived at Keine's place, Hanalli sat down with ease. "I have missed this place. Such a homey place for a teacher to live at. It reminds me of the first day. While my siblings found their home with ease, I went on to find a home of my own. However, it was not until you were at the village that I took part in life here. The early years if I remember. Before that greedy Mokou hogged you for herself." the last line she said was paired with her grinning as best she could, implying the two were a couple. The true story of their meeting was all but a simple day.... "And if I remember...you were the only human that has seen my real form at all." ---past---
Hanalli approached the human village again. She was curious as to how such a place thrived with creatures of much power and might thrive in the land just as much. "Hmm...This village looks interesting." she said to herself. Hanalli took her chance and started to walk towards the village. However, a human walked right in front of her and she bolted into the nearest house that was empty. The house of the younger and still clean from her Were-beast ability, Keine. Hanalli hid inside the house, under the covers as her true form of a light sphere took shape. She was unable to keep her human form due to how nervous she was. ((Yes a semi flashback rp! Time to set ground even more so!))

"Come on then, Hanalli, " Keine smiled anyway,"Let's talk over some tea, you still need to get your strength back, and some tea will help you."
While Keine went about preparing the tea, she listened to the youkai. When she returned, she was snickering at Hinalli's attempt at teasing her about Mokou," She isn't greedy, she just needs more tending too." The were-hakutaku set the tea down infront of Hanalli , with a grin of her own,"Don't tell me you are jealous." Â With a small chuckle she sat across Hanalli.
"Ha, yes, that was certainly something to my younger, more scatter-brained self." --Past--
Indeed, Keine's house was empty. Lacking the school she would run in the future, Keine spent much time working for the Hieda Bloodline, she was an advocate of literature even in her younger days. Having just walked out of her common study and to her house, the young woman ignored the bolt of light bursting into her home before herself.
After fumbling for a key, the tired Keine went into her dark home, though it wasn't so dark. So tired was she, that she did not notice the orb of light in her home unil after she had closed the door and removed her shoes.
When her brain processed the orb of light though, it was fear that filled her but curiosity. Â She had grown used to Youkai, having lived in the village all her life.
And so, Keine slowly and cautiously approached the orb, not bothering to light a candle. It's light was enough to warm her soul.
Still her hands trembled lightly. Was this a Yaksha after her? Or maybe a Devil seeking sacrifice? Temptation wasn't unknown around Gensokyo in the form of warm thinga. The young woman walked to the orb, a hand over her heart as she tried to inspect the orb. "H-hello...?"

The entire time that Hanalli hid, she did not realize her form was showing. When she heard the woman say hello in a frightened manner, she moved the covers off. Though she still did not change her form. "I am just a little kid who got lost around here, that's all!" Her voice changed pitch, showing she was unable to keep it together. It wasn't until she noticed her form that she quickly swapped back to the human form she used. The same as always. A young body with an orange monk's attire. "Ok, i lied. I am Hanalli, Deit- Youkai of Joy. I do not bring any harm to your village at all. I am just looking around." Hanalli looked at Keine, her eyes wide like an animal. Her aura emitting a warm sensation of security. For a former Deity, she looked more like a servant from heaven. Both real and mortal form.

The orb revealed a young woman hiding under the covers. Keine blinked, so a youkai had come to hide in her home? "I am Keine, erm-.... Human... ?"
She moved to offer her hand to help her up,"Don't be scared... I am just a human, and I am okay with guests..." She smiled a bit more,"Here, You fan hide as much as you want, You are safe here in my home. No one has business with me, so no one will intrude with your... Ern, hiding, Miss Hinalli."

Hanalli was usually treated with open arms but never like a random beast. Always like a god. This was a change to her that she really did not expect. Instead, she smiled with joy. She latched onto Keine in a hug. "Thank you. I just came here from the outside world so I have no idea if i would be treated with kindness or fear." her head snugging against Keine as a show of her own affection to mortals. The brilliant aura of joy.
--- "It was still a very new experience for me. Oh how much you could learn from me as a Deity was just astounding." Hanalli laughed from thinking of past events. Sadly, she was never around for Keine's accident or the incident involving the Lunarian called Kaguya. She was, however, part of her life for a while. Then, the door opened to reveal Nahumar. Hanalli did not expect him to show up...in a new outfit. He was wearing a Black Summer Yukata with gold design. His shadow black body was masked with an illusion of human feet and torso, but it still had no features. To him, this was embarrassing. If indeed he had a pigment, he would of been comparable to that shopkeeper down on the edge of the forest of magic...but more ripped and taller. "Sorina told me to come check up on you...but i think that was a cover to send me here to show this." Even as dim as Hanalli was, it felt like she glowed with excitement. "Oh Nahumar! You finally wore something else instead of that terrible coat, and on the festival!" She obviously liked it, but Nahumar only felt like some sort of doll. "In any case...I hope I was not intruding on anything, Miss Keine. Apparently, Sorina decided to blade dance for the crowd for you. When you feel ready, you should come out." Nahumar explained, closing the door as he left. Hanalli only could giggle. "Nahumar is such a lone wolf. You really could not tell he is the Deity of Fear and all just from his attitude. If only he learned how to create skin pigment below his neck then everything would be perfect!" She was happy from Nahumar changing. It made her glow for a second or two before dimming once more. "Whoops. Almost absorbed too much...Anyways, tell me about what has happened recently? Something good? Something bad?" Hanalli asked, taking a sip of the tea before her.

Keine snickered shaking her head,"I was so used to feral youkai. Seeing a Youkai of Joy in my own home was a shock for my younger self. Pleasant yet startling. I definitely learned from your stay."
As she stopped to sip from her tea, Nahumar entered on cue. Keine blinked at the change of wardrobe in the Youkai of Fear, but change she greeted openly with how it made Hanalli glimmer for the shortest moment. "Thank you, we will go out in a moment, Mr Nahumar."
Once he left she turned to respond Hanalli's question," I still run the Village School, and I help the Hieda Bloodline's record keeping, now as a more on par resource. But, for a while now, I have doubled as the village's secret protector and advisor."
" Not long ago, we had an incident with those of the Eientei Household. They tried to conceal the moon, but some incident solvers took auick care of it. Afterwards, though, they thought of Ganging up on Mokou," She frowned and shook her head,"They where strong enough that a were-hakutaku in plain full moon could not fend them off."
The thought hit her; did Hanalli know she was the were-beast of the village?

Hanalli smiled as Keine talked about the past. Every detail she enjoyed. "Hmm...so the incident solvers were the red and white miko and that witch with black attire. They are defiantly strong humans indeed. Nahumar had a tough time trying to hit the red one without using real force." Then she remembered something. "Oh! I completely forgot. On my travel, I found this!" from her bag, Hanalli pulled out a stone that had a fossilized dandelion in it. However, it looked as if someone tried to eat it... "I thought it was a new kind of Dandelion and I nearly threw up. Who knew I could still smell a preserved flower? So here, you can have it." It was pretty big but not heavy.
"Let's not keep them waiting any longer. They came to greet me and I came to tell stories." Hanalli slowly stood up, obviously still unable to balance correctly. When she attempted to use her own power, a dark tendon flicked her forehead and retreated to remind her not to use any of her abilities. "Ow...Nahumar!" she shouted in frustration, her cheeks puffed.

Keine smiled taking the fossilized stone in her hand, "Oh! A fossilized specimen," the teacher eyes sparked with the excitement only a scholar would have. Though, Keine laughed as she heard Hanalli tried to eat it,"Stone is never good to eat, not even Amber can be if any good."
Keine bowed her head in a thank you gesture, standing to help Hanalli out. The tendon startled her, but she proceeded to pat Hanalli's shoulder,"Well then, shall we head out?"

"Yeah." Hanalli replied as the two walked out of her house and to the center of the crowd. With Nahumar, was Sorina next to him. She still had her kimono on as oppose to Nahumar's new outfit. The two noticed Keine and Hanalli. "Felling better? Come, I can take you on stage. Thanks so much Keine." Sorina said, taking Hanalli by the hand and walking her on stage. Nahumar stood next to Keine, waiting and listening for what she brought from her travels. However, Nahumar decided to talk a bit with the teacher. "I see that her words do ring true. Hanalli trusts you just like us, Were-beast." he lightly grinned. His voice unheard by the others and only by Keine. Being a source of fear, he could tell right away what beasts were around that invoked fear in mortals. "You have done much for Hanalli since we arrived. The only way I can repay you is with but simple words." Nahumar, as big and scary as he came, his heart and mind were like that of a human. "...As i glided across the lake, the ice fair tried to pin me...her accuracy could of been better..." her current story was a danmaku battle with an ice fairy. "And later tonight, Sorina and I decided to tell you more about the past. Hanalli possibly told you a fraction." the sense of dread from his tone seemed to be more to their arrival. A possible lesson from the past?
