Filled with strange buildings and populated with odd looking fleshies, the world were the humans dwell. This is were the first Alice came from and also were the second one will be stolen from. Or so I have just been informed. This world holds laws different from our own and even I don't know how the world runs or how the creatures here co-exist.

Here is the physical bridge between the two worlds. It spirals down much further and in places the footholds have corroded away. These stairs sit at the bottom of an old underground human sewer system and as such tend to be ignored. I have only seen this place but have never set paw in it. Guess there is a first time for everything.

The spring semester was coming to a close. When Kappa awoke this particular morning, she noticed the date in the bottom corner of her alarm clock: the ninth of May. Her first year of college was ending soon, and yet it seemed to have never begun. She preferred to think she was not really already finishing two full semesters of higher education, because that was a sign of headway toward a real career, which Kappa was not ready for yet. She had no clue what she wanted to do, yet would have to declare a major, securing her career path, after the next semester, after summer break. The thought was slightly depressing. She had been able to easily glide through the past two semesters as she took care of her core classes, and it had been like a fifth, very expensive year of high school. She got mostly B’s and had a few friends and was content for things to stay so simple, but they could not.

Kappa didn’t like to focus on such troubling thoughts for long, though. She was not about to decide on the path of her future before she even got out of bed. Today was going to be just another day like all the others. A tiny part of her mind acknowledged that it was Friday, but it made little difference—Kappa was not one for parties and the like, and she preferred smaller daily outings with her friends rather than occasional large gatherings. Her morning routine was the same every morning: shower, hair, dress, teeth. She would mix it up more often if she was not busy daydreaming, and the rigid schedule allowed her to focus on her fantasies. Her classes were simple and she breezed through them, rarely conscious of what she was actually doing, as the tasks were primarily mindless and automatic.

That particular afternoon, she and her friends went shopping. She was hardly interested in the merchandise and she had little extra money to spend, but her friends’ presence was enough to keep her content, and she enjoyed watching them fret over the seasonal colors and which new musicians to endorse. One of her companions, Alicia, who commuted to school, was looking for a pet so they visited a local animal shelter. This was actually Kappa’s turn to be in the spotlight, as most of the animals seemed to take a natural liking to her, even one notoriously antisocial cat. Her friends gawked at her ability to win the hearts of the animals, though she insisted it was only because she had pets as a child and knew how to handle them. They ate lunch together, talking, gossiping, and giggling over sandwiches and tea, then returned to the school and went their separate ways to go about their own business, primarily homework. Kappa returned to her room briefly, but found it difficult to focus, so she decided to take a walk around the city.

It was a beautiful day. The late spring sunlight was warm against her skin like a blanket, but the air did not yet have the stuffiness of summer. There was the slightest breeze that was neither warm nor cool, and the sky was half-full of clouds, as if it was considering a sprinkle but not threatening real rain. Kappa hummed to herself as she walked, her airy, high-pitched tunes going unnoticed by passers-by. The bounce in her step gave away the youth that lingered in her, but her calm demeanor balanced it out, and despite her relatively interesting appearance, she attracted no more attention than anyone else. She detoured through the park and took a rest on a bench there, letting her mind wander as it always did. Then she continued on her aimless route.

Kappa ended up standing on a street corner a few blocks away from campus, nibbling a croissant to savor the fluffy pastry. Had it been nighttime, she may have seemed shady, standing alone at a corner on a small street with nobody nearby, but it was the middle of the day and her tiny smile of contentment was too serene to make her appear suspicious. The sunlight clung to her hair, glistening among the strands like so many little droplets, and her fair skin glowed. The weather was quite flattering this day. She stared up into the clouds, her eyes shining as she dreamed of a world where the weather was always this perfect, and where magic existed, and where cats could talk. The only thing she would have changed was the feeling she could not shake that she was being watched, but she knew the cause: a nearby sewer manhole that had been left carelessly uncovered. She was not particularly afraid of the dark or anything, but something just felt a little off about that opening to the sewer system. For the most part, though, she ignored it, because daydreaming was much better than worrying.

Ace
~The Cheshire Cat~

Ace shrugged, "I didn't think you would make this trip without knowing were we were going." He watched Ryan's device and caught a glimpse of the new 'Alice.' She was older than the previous one, this one was a young adult while the other was only a child. The green hair of the girl framed her eyes. They were a deep azul with tiny flakes of green and for a second he was lost in them and he missed the brief weakness in Ryan's.

"I think it's been a while since I've been here too. In fact I've only ever been on the first step." Ace started his way up the steps and was somewhat surprised with Ryan took his hand. He glanced at the rabbit briefly and wondered if his nervousness was that obvious. Secretly he was grateful for the support. He allowed the rabbit to pull him along, he even lifted his feet from the ground and floated along behind it. As they got closer to the mortar world Ace tightened his grip on the rabbits hand. What made him nervous was the fact that he only knew parts of this mortar world. The less knowledge he had of his surroundings, the less prepared he felt. For him, knowledge was power.

"So we will basically look like humans." The rabbit may have used an insult to refer to Ace but it was still endearing. The two arrived at the gate and after releasing the rabbit hand once more, Ace transformed his shape into a house cat, looking exactly as he did the first time he changed. "Unless I turn into a cat." Then he shifted back into his human like form. "Though it might be better to be direct. I can fight better in the form anyways, that's the main reason you needed me here right?"

Ace concentrated on the knowledge that he did have of this world as he stepped through the liquid glass. He looked all around taking in all of the shapes and colors. There were trees with actual leaves and birds soaring a cross blue skies. Then he looked down at himself. His clothes had changed. Ace was now wearing some kind of pants that were a faded blue with a rough texture. A white collared shirt and a soft red vest over that. He pulled at the fabric, it felt nice. He turned to see if his tail was still there but it had disappeared. Instinctively both of his hands shot up to his head finding nothing but black hair. Even his paws were gone. Of course he could have done a transformation like this on his own, minus the clothes, but it was fascinating for him to change without using his own powers.

After accepting the change in himself as adapting to the fresh air of the mortar world, he spotted The Alice not very far away. The green hair was a dead giveaway. And sure enough she was eating what the rabbit had shown earlier. Silently he hated being ignorant in this situation and made a mental note to question Ryan of the mortar world when he had the chance.

Ryan was surprised when Ace said it was his first time in the Stairs."To think, that the know~it~all Cheshire has not been here...well it sounds like a silly joke." Ryan watched as Ace Turned into a cat and back to his original form again and frowned. "Yes, i did enlist you to fight if we encounter any trouble. You are also here to help me convince her, since...well you have a better way with words for the simple minded. That silver tongue of yours has gained more favors than that caterpillar...and that's saying something."

Ryan watched as the Cat stepped through the looking glass and light and color encased him, taking away his ears and tail, and changing his clothing to fit the mortar world current trends.
Truth be told, Ryan had done this before...and hated the experience of being changed and had a clear distaste of wearing mortar clothes.
"By whatever is left holy in this land...please dont make me wear the same clothes as last time..."

Frowning, Ryan passed through the glass and felt the slightest tingle, before the sunlight of the mortar world encased him."GAH! i knew our Underland had a bright sun back in the day...but the mortar sun...is too real and hot for my taste" Ryan took a few steps towards Ace, trying not to look at its body,Ignoring the changes made to it. But the wind that caressed his naked legs made him stop and scowl.
"No..no no no!" Ryan turned towards the mirror and watched how its body had lost its ears and tail and had transformed into a Mortar girl, with light hair and hazel eyes, that contained Ryan's purple inside them. Ryan's legs were long and smooth and its very lean body was now adorned with nice young breast.
Yet out of all of this, Ryan did not mind being a woman, he had no interest in what gender it should be...what made Ryan feel outraged was the outfit the mirror had chosen. White, was wearing a white button-up shirt with a lose tie and a very Small skirt, that hinted at indecency. Giving the mirror a scowl he trudged over to Ace and pulled him by the collar, taking in his body and clothes and anger rising."Why is it..you get to wear those clothes, and i get stuck with skirts every time i get here!?" Ryan let go of Ace and calmed down slightly."Last time a Victorian dress with a deathtrap corset..now a skirt that would have gotten me slain back in the Victorian age...What is wrong with these mortar!?" Ryan shook its head, long light locks bouncing everywhere as it finished its rant and calmed down as it spotted "Alice", his face turning all serious. "well...there is our Target. how should we approach her?"

Ace

Ace chuckled, it was rather ironic that the living library knew very little about the human world, but he intended to change that and the longer he spent here, the more information he took in. "A silver tongue, It will be a pleasure getting to use it in full force." He paused. "True, I do have many favors that I can request at any time. But I like having the numerous dept that others own me." He grinned and started fingering his hair. It was coarse and thick. Ace frowned pulling his eyebrows together, "Well I am disappointed in my hair. It was so much silkier before."

Ace turned to watch the rabbit come through the mirror. His eyes grew wide. The Cheshire had never seen the White Rabbit in any such clothing. The skirt was indeed short, barely covering anything the Rabbit might be hiding underneath. Ace laughed much harder than before and bent his body at the waist, leaning closer to Ryan "I don't know, I think this form is much easier on the eyes." He teased, his voice rising at the end. "A Victorian dress hu?" He turned his face and tried to imagine what that might look like.

Ryan pulled Ace's attention back to him by pointing out The Alice. At a table next to the women, Ace saw a man wearing a dark colored suit and thought it looked much better than what he was wearing now. Ace rotated his body so he was facing the looking glass. He noticed that his eyes were still the same vibrant yellow. Using his powers he morphed his clothes to resemble the suit though with some variations that suited his taste. He adjusted the tie and nodded. "I think this looks much more..." He couldn't find the right word and mumbled, "What do humans call it...Right! Professional like a lawyer." It wasn't necessarily a phrase normally used in Wonderland. "I think we match better this way. I don't know what that blue fabric was, but it was rather scratchy."

He thought about how they should address The Alice, Kaitlyn was her real name, and decided that being direct would probably be the easiest. Ace shrugged, "Why don't we just walk right up to her?" He pushed his hands into his pockets and started towards Kaitlyn, feeling a rush of something moving though his veins.

Ryan growled at Ace for laughing at his mortar form, and was about to smack him when the cat used his powers to alter his clothing."Grr..how i despise you and your powers.." The cats actions made Ryan rather envious of the shape shifter, but he controlled his tongue, only commenting on the mortar clothing."Yes...most mortar put themselves through uncomfortable phases of fashion..just for the heck of it. Ill never understand how they enjoy wearing jeans...a..and these Damned contraptions of lady garments". Ryan tried to fix the skirt but decided against it. Her attention on Ace as he stalked after "Alice"."Oh great plan cat! like i couldn't have come up with a better idea myself.." Ryans voice was heavy with sarcasm as he stalked off with the cat.

Ryan followed the cat, its head held high and his hands on the skirt, holding it down so the wind would not flip it up.They quickly reached the "Alice" and Ryan stepped in front of her, looking into those blue eyes and her hair. Its breath being caught from her sight, emotion stuck in Ryan's throat as the thought of being so close to the "key" caught up with him."Dori...i found her...i really did.."

Ryan notice he was watching "Alice" with too much intensity and would probably scare her. So she took a step back and motioned a soft bow to Kaitlyn."I must apologize for my rude manner Miss Kaitlyn..My name is Ryan White. Me and my colleague Mr. Ace.." Ryan got up from its bow and motioned to the Cheshire before continuing."Have been looking for you..We think you might be able to assist us. Would you be so kind as to hear us out?" Ryan tucked back a lock of hair and took a step back from "Alice" letting Ace take over. That way, if she tried to run, Ace could use his "silver tongue".

Ace
~The Cheshire Cat~

Ace paused before reaching 'Alice' and turned slowly back to Ryan as it spoke. The rabbit was complaining about not having powers like the Cheshire and how strange human clothes had gone through many alterations over the years. Again this reminded the cat of how little he knew about human's and their world. Ace felt jealous that the rabbit seemed to obtain a large amount of knowledge that he himself had never had access too. He lifted his arm and wrapped it around Ryan's shoulders delicately.

He placed his forehead against Ryan's, wanting to feel it's warmth "If I could change your appearance for you I would." He meant it too. The fact that Ryan had silently given him courage going up the staircase without badgering him too much showed true kindness; a kindness that required nothing in return. Ace valued that, even above knowledge. But he wouldn't admit that to Ryan's face, at least not yet.

Ace released his hold on the girlish rabbit, giving it one last glance up and down which he followed with a smirk. Then he started walking towards 'Alice' again with Ryan at his heels, made fun of his plan. Ace shrugged in response and closed the gap between them and 'Alice'. It may not have been a very eventful plan but at least it was strait forward. That was usually the best way to go. Clear and concise.

There she was in front of them, the key, The Alice, Kaitlyn. Ace waited patiently while Ryan spoke to the girl and all the while he watched as a slight breeze ran through her hair. Different shades of color shifted about her crown. He lifted his sight and saw what caused the changing shadows, it was a tree bending to the wind and the sun shining through its lush leaves. This world really was so different. Before speaking, Ace bent at the waist in respect but he couldn't keep his eyes away from Kaitlyn's. She was so unique, so genuine. At least that is what he perceived on the outside.

"You see Kaitlyn, may I call you by your first name, our world is in danger. We need you in order to save it." He looked at her with pleading eyes and extended his hand in a gentleman fashion hoping she would accept it.

Kappa sighed, staring at the remnants of her croissant. It was delicious and the taste lingered pleasantly on her tongue, but she now realized her mouth was quite dry from the bread, and she had forgotten to buy a drink to wash the treat down. It was ruining her enjoyment of the last few bites. She stared intently at the croissant, pondering the situation. She could finish the roll now and then go get a drink—but then she would not enjoy the last little bit quite so much—or she could buy a drink now to go with the last bit of bread—but then she would either have to awkwardly carry around a quarter of a croissant or put it in her pocket, risking a crummy mess. She tapped her toe on the ground as she pondered her dilemma. Just as she made her decision though (to carry the croissant with her to go get a drink), something nearby caught her eye.

Two people were approaching her. No big deal, she thought, they are probably on their way somewhere. But as they came closer, it was clear they were targeting her: a curiosity, as she was positive she had never seen these people before. Slightly in the lead was a tall, lean young man with thick black hair. Accompanying him was a lovely girl that Kappa estimated was only a couple of years older than herself. The girl had unnaturally pale hair, though it was quite pretty. When they stopped before her, she took a closer look at them. The man held himself tall, radiating confidence and just a hint of mischievousness. The girl’s posture seemed almost uptight. But as they stared intensely at her, the most curious part about either of the two caught her attention: their eyes. The man’s were yellow. Not that light green with a hint of yellow, but a deep gold. Like a cat’s, Kappa thought, but she kept it to herself, as most people do not enjoy being compared to cats. When she made eye contact with the woman, she could not help but notice that, although hers were a slightly more common type of hazel, they also had an unmistakable purple tint that seemed to dominate the longer Kappa stared. She blinked a couple of times and averted her gaze slightly for a moment so she would not appear awkward.

She had no need to worry about awkward, she found. Just then, the girl bowed—like what butlers always did in movies about rich people—and began speaking in an odd way. She apologized for being rude, though Kappa had not been offended by anything that had happened, then introduced herself as Ryan and the man as Mr. Ace. “We have been looking for you,” she said. “We think you might be able to assist us.” Ryan asked if Kappa would hear their request, and Kappa nodded, interested in how these people knew her, how they found her, and what she could possibly do for them. She looked at Mr. Ace as he began speaking. “You see, Kaitlyn—may I call you by your first name?” Kappa nodded. “Our world is in danger. We need you in order to save it.”

Suddenly it all dawned on Kappa. The manner of the two people. The color of their eyes. How they knew who she was. “Ahhh, so you two are cosplayers!” She smiled a little. Her friend Ellie was very much into video games and anime and went to conventions for both on nearly a monthly basis. While Kappa was moderately fond of both, she had only once been to one of the many conventions her friend frequented; she was a busy person, and she did not particularly care for the overall silliness of the events. These people, she figured, she had met at that one convention. “Are you two looking for Ellie? Or is there a particular role you need filled?” She was eager to help these people. Any friend of Ellie’s was a friend of hers. Her enthusiasm did not show, though, beyond the slight smile still on her face. Kappa was not the most expressive person.

Ryan watched with a slight frown as Ace got close, placing his hands on Ryans shoulders. White was about to ask what he was doing, when Ace pressed his forehead to hers. A blush appeared on Ryans cheeks and a slight glare at the cat."Thank you for the sentiments...But i knew you were a useless cat.." Ryan gave a huff as Ace let her go and gave Ryan a once over followed by a wink, which Ryan followed with a shake of her head and some very rude remarks she could make.

As they got close to "Alice" and Ryan presented itself and Ace, She awaited for "alice" to answer Aces words."This better work..i dont want to have to knock her out" Ryan watched as Kaitlyn debated for a second, something in her eyes unsure...until it clicked. Ryan was hopeful, she knew "Alice" had to be smart and by her smile, Ryan really knew she could understand some...well, those were Ryans thoughts until Kaitlyn decided to open her mouth. "What in the....." Ryan was about to say some words to "Alice" that she might regret later on. Instead she bit down her tongue and quickly calculated a plan. She gave "Alice" a slight bow of her head and smiled too brightly, her mind racing."Ace...you ruin this..and ill gut you"

Ryan pulled the information regarding anime, from the back of her mind and took Kaits hand in hers and pulled her close."Why, yes! you can help us miss Kaitlyn!...Ellie..yes, she wants you to join us in our crew!...Your hair, and perfect complexion, will fit right in with the character we have chosen for you! Tee-hee" She shook her head and leaned back taking Ace's arm and hugging it to her chest."Right Ace..isn't she too pretty.."
Her gaze turned back to alice. "We came already in character, thinking Ellie might have told you..but i guess we arrived too soon..Oh dear, oh bother..and the others are waiting for us.." Ryan cursed inside his mind, and let Ace go smiling softly. "Please come with us miss Kaitlyn, Everyone is waiting...and we would like to fit you into the "tittle" that we have saved for you, as soon as possible."

Ace
~The Cheshire Cat~

When the girl made no move to accept his open palm, Ace recoiled it and instead gripped the collar of his suit. He stood up from his slight bow and gripped the other side of his collar with his free hand then straitened his jacket, pulling it down slightly. He sniffed, trying to hide his hurt pride behind a calm expression. Ace had never been so ignored by anyone before, even Ryan usually gave some kind of response to his actions. None the less, at least the girl did not seem frightened or disturbed by their presence. Then the girl spoke a word Ace had never heard before, 'cosplayers.' The cat eyed Kaitlyn and opened his lips to object before the rabbit interjected. Ace stayed quite, listening. He had no idea what the two of them were talking about; 'character' 'crew.' The only thing that did make sense was having a 'title' for her to take over. On top of his wounded pride, Ace started to feel insignificant inside. This was again due to his lack of knowledge. Whether or not he knew of something determined his personality towards it.

He wanted to growl in anger and frustration at his weakness. Ace shifted his gaze from The Alice and spotted something curious looking. It was the morsel that Kaitlyn had been munching on when he and the rabbit had approached her. It looked flaky and buttery. His body reminded him that he still hadn't eaten much. The drive to eat made his mind foggy and a dazed look spread a crossed his face. He found himself leaning towards the breaded pastry. Realizing he still had not responded to Ryan, Ace shook his head to get rid of his hungry thoughts and focus on the task at hand.

Ace sighed, guessing that he should play along with the rabbit's words. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to say but figured winging it would be fine, he had no other choice anyways.

"Right, we are cosplayers." Ace nodded to Ryan. "Yes, her appearance is quite beautiful" He moved his gaze back to Kaitlyn's eyes, once again finding them enchanting.

In the back of his head he wondered who the heck Ellie was and how Ryan seemed so comfortable in their present situation. Unlike how awkward he imagined he himself must appear. Ace hated feeling like this, unknowledgeable, so he took a moment to push away his insecurities, allowing his confidence to flow back in. Feeling much more like himself, the cat gave a charming smile and followed Ryan's lead. "We told Ellie of the character we still needed and immediately informed us of you. Ellie failed to mention however, just how perfect you are for the title." He paused before confirming Ryan's main point. "My companion is correct, and where we are going is not too far from here."

He graciously extended his hand once more, it was the gentleman in him to be chivalrous despite the previous unconscious rejection. Or so he hoped it had been.

Kappa listened as Ryan and Mr. Ace explained their situation. Apparently Ellie had simply failed to notify her of her companions in town looking for her. It was a mild inconvenience, but Kappa did not mind helping out. They seemed delighted in how well she fit their needs, and when they started calling her attractive, a hint of pink touched her cheeks. Her smile never wavered, but their awkward enthusiasm was a bit off-putting. For a moment she considered being suspicious, but the thought quickly left her mind. Though it had only been one experience, she had noticed the overall awkwardness of those in the community these people belonged to. They most likely were a bit anxious about approaching a complete stranger and asking for such a burdensome favor. The way they kept looking at each other made her vaguely think of partners caught in a crime who need to get their story straight or else betray their guilt…but then, they had approached her in public, likely judging by nothing but a vague description from Ellie. There was no doubt the two were cripplingly nervous.

Her suspicion still got the best of her. Her gentle smile never wavered. “Well, it would be my pleasure to help,” she said, grasping Ace’s hand. Her grip was steady, but gentle, as if she was afraid of breaking his hand if she held too tight or shook too hard. It was a fleeting touch, but her fingers lingered just a bit. This man had…something about him. She didn’t quite feel like she was really touching him. She shook the feeling away. Such strange thoughts running through her mind… “If you could just give me a moment, I think I would like to grab a soda to finish my croissant with. I’ll be right back.” Before either of them could object, she slid around the corner and jogged to the nearest convenience store, only a few doors down. She slipped inside.

Kappa was no liar. Of course she bought a drink with which to wash down her last bit of pastry, but once her thirst was quenched and her fingers licked clean of crumbs, she quickly pulled out her phone. Luckily, Ellie was on speed dial.

“Hey Kappa. Forget to take n—“

“I don’t have a lot of time, Ellie.” Kappa just assumed the two were following her. Whether they were or not, she preferred to play it safe. “Is there a convention in town this weekend?”

“A convention? Umm… Let me check and I’ll get back to you, okay?”

“Is there a convention you are going to attend?”

“That I’m attending? No. Why?”

“No reason. Just…making sure there were no plans this weekend.”

Kappa hung up and leaned on the shelf she was hiding behind. So these were not cosplayers. Nor were they friends of Ellie’s. She was not sure what their purpose could possibly be, but they were obviously intending to kidnap her, despite the fact that she was not well-known and did not come from a particularly wealthy family. But there would be time later for speculation. These people were shady and made her nervous, and she wanted to escape. “Excuse me,” she said to the cashier, who just cocked his head at her. “Do you have a back exit?” The cashier shrugged. “Sorry, we don’t. Trying to avoid an ex?” Kappa’s sheepish grin was enough of an explanation for the cashier, who just chuckled and went back to staring blankly at the back wall.

Kappa sighed and looked around. Her only option was to make a run for it. She was sure she could outrun Ryan, as the girl’s short legs and slight frame could not likely carry her far. Kappa’s main concern was Ace. He was tall enough and appeared reasonably able-bodied, and could probably run faster and longer than she could. It was worth a try, at least. Maybe she could get to a more populated area before being caught and someone would be able to call the authorities or come to her aid.

She took a deep breath. Now or never, she supposed. She walked calmly to the door, pushed it open, and broke into a full sprint down the street away from the corner she had conversed with them at. Her heart pounded, not so much with physical exertion as with a speck of fear. Who the ******** are they?
