Melanie was out searching once again for the thing that was missing in her life: her twin. The search had not been going well, in fact Melanie was no closer to finding her twin then when she started. She sighed as she stopped by a big fallen tree. She hadn't seen anyone in days, her search taking her far from where anyone else stayed. At this point in time she would love to find anyone even if they were not Phoebe. She even missed her old guardian, Charna. That goes to tell you just how lonely she was. Shaking her head she sniffed the air. She caught the scent of flowers and decided to head that way. Maybe there would be something to eat or even better another wolf to talk to. But whatever be the case there would be sunshine and she loved being in the sun.

Wandering deep into the forest, along one of the paths Ashy usually took late at night, Paine thought to herself. It seemed that her pup had really taken to Zack. Zack was a good father, truly, and Paine hadn't felt the slightest hint of jealousy over it. Then again, Paine never did get angry. Though she couldn't help but feel slightly left out of the little family, that had grown so much. Shaking her head, Paine forced herself to smile. Of course she was still included; what was she thinking? Still, the walk was helpful in clearing her thoughts.
The gurgling of a soft, cool stream drew Paine's attention, and she realized how thirsty she was. How long had she been walking this path? Ashy was something else, running through here each night... As she approached the stream, the smell of flowers blasted her nostrills. It only made sense that flowers would bloom near water, though. However peaceful her walk might have been, Paine would not refuse company. Actually, she rather would have liked to have someone to talk to. Company is the best medicine, isolation can drive a person mad.

Melanie tucked her wings tight against her back. The flowers were just beyond a thick barrier of bushes and brambles. She didn't want to hurt her wings as she crawled underneath the barrier. She could see a little hole that other small creatures had used to get around the natural barrier. It was far quicker than going around or flying. She shuddered at the thought of flying. She wasn't very good and she would most likely end up in the bushes and brambles than over it.
Sucking in a breath she crouched down and began crawling. Her wings hit the small branches and even snagged on a bramble but it didn't do any damage. She was going slow so that if she did get caught she'd be able to stop and try to wiggle free. It took a while but she made it to the other side. She stood up, shook herself, and looked at all of the flowers. It was a whole meadow of them and the sun was shining down on them.

Once Paine had reached the stream, she took a long draught from it. The stream was still in the shadow of the forest, though it was at the base of a steep hill. The contrasting colors of the ground was abrupt. Looking up from her drink when she was finished, Paine began to wonder what was on the other side of that hill, and hoped she could traverse it. Luckily for her, the stream was shallow, and thin enough to leap over. The hill, however, looked more like a droppoff into a ditch than anything passable.
Paine didn't care, she was too curious. It was obvious to see where Ashy could have gotten her adventurous side from. Maybe Paine was better off not knowing, but, still. She had to try. So jumping past the stream, she began to examine the slope. It didn't look that high..Kicking her hind legs out behind her, Paine thrust her body upwards and was able to grab the lip with her forelegs. Kicking and waving her tail wildly, she finally emerged into the bright sunlight and found solid ground beneath all four paws.
Taking a look around, Paine saw a huge field before her, and her face broke out in a peaceful smile. It was a good idea to jump up here. Taking a few ginger steps forward, Paine paused when she saw another wolf, only with wings. She eyed her for a moment, but put on a friendly smile.

Melanie had just flung herself into the flowers and was sniffing one when she heard a noise. Her head popped up and turned towards where another female had appeared. Seeing the smile made her smile brightly. "Hello there! Come to smell the flowers? They're quite lovely." She stood up and took a few steps towards Paine, "In face the day is quite lovely. Don't you agree?"

The returned smile set Paine at ease, and she padded over gingerly, though not too eagar. "Hello, and yes, they are beautiful." the deep violet wolf responded, coming within a friendly closeness to the other wolf. Bending her head leisurely, she sniffed a rose and her tail flicked into a slight sway. "I prefer the night myself," Paine admitted, "Though scenes like this make day just as beautiful; today is a very pretty day." Paine smiled brightly, looking up at the white, winged wolf. "My name is Paine."

Melanie's smile stayed on her face. "I don't have much preference over day or night. Both have their good points." She replied shifting her wings, "I'm Melanie. It's a pleasure to meet you Paine." She turned her head back to the flowers and inhaled deeply. She did love the smell of flowers. "I must say Paine.... I don't think I've ever seen or caught your scent around here. Have you ever come around here? Of course it's not like I'm from around here. I'm just passing through in my search."

Paine shrugged good-mannerdly in response her new companion's opinion about not having a preference. Not a lot of wolves did. "Likewise, Melanie." Paine sat back on her haunches and watched the white wolf for a moment. The question brought a faint smile to her lips, "I actually just recently came. I'm actually from a pack of winged wolves..." something changed in her face as she said this, but it was so quick and indistinct that it was unable to determine for the moment if this was good or bad. "Speaking of, I like yours. They look kinda like the night sky..." Paine's smile broke out into a slight grin at this point, and then she tipped her head to the side slightly, "Search?"

Melanie sat down as well. She caught the look that passed over Paine's face but it was so quick that she couldn't make what is was. "Oh? So you're from here... even though it's recent? And you were part of a pack of winged wolves?!" A wistful look crossed her face, "I've never really known any other winged wolves. Just Summanus but he's like me: never known any others of our kind." She smiled at the complement. "Thank you! I do love how they look like the night sky too. I still think they would suit Summnaus. He after all looks like the night sky... just not his wings. They remind me of a sunset or something like that."
Her smile faded and she nodded slowly. "Yeah, search. I'm looking for my twin sister. I don't really remember what she looks like but I remember her name. It's Phoebe. Have you met anyone with that name who looks like me?"

The sudden excitement that coursed through Melanie startled Paine a bit, and she nodded a little absently. Surely wings were not that uncommon, were they? "My mother was winged, though because of my choice in....mate..." she chose the word a little unconfidently, with an odd tone to her voice that also lasted but a moment, "Well..it was unapproved. So I had to leave," this time the glint in Paine's eyes was a little sad. She had loved her pack - her family - even if she didn't believe in the way they tended to act towards others. Shaking herself fromt he sad memory, Paine brought her attention back to her companion's musings.
"This Summnaus...are you fond of him?" Paine began, adding, "I like that duality about him. Because night does come after sunset," She winked a little at her, before the tone changed.
Listening patiently, Paine shook her head, "Regrettably, I do not remember any Phoebe's." and offered the other wolf a sympathetic smile, "But if you'd like, I can certainly help you look a while."

Melanie frowned at what Paine said. "They shouldn't have made you leave just because of your choice in mate. I thought family was supposed to accept you and who you love no matter what." She paused for a second, "I am sorry that your family made you leave cause of that.... and if my words offended you." Sometimes she didn't think before she spoke and had offended people with something she had said.
"Summanus? ..... Well I suppose I am. I mean we grew up together and he was the only pup besides me where I was growing up." She looked at little confused at the wink, "And yes the duality in his looks is something I like. His personality could use some work.... but there's nothing I can do about that. Can't change a wolf no matter how much you'd like to."
She nodded with a sad look when Paine said she had not seen her twin. "Well thank you anyways. Phoebe seems to be no where. I'm starting to think that maybe she never existed!" She brightened up at the offer, "Would you?! No one has really offered to help me look for her."

For a moment, it seemed like Paine was about to speak out in defense of her family. It couldn't have been because they didn't love her, right? No, of course not. But they had to look out for the pack - and naturally, her mother was right about it. Her mother was always right..."It is alright; no offense taken." she added quickly in order to pull herself from the memory.
Easily able to see that she was mistaken about Melanie's affection for the one called Summanus, the blood flew into Paine's muzzle, and she nodded. "So he is a like a brother. I feel that way about Nox. He was my bodyguard in my old pack, and followed me even after I was cast out." listening, Paine nodded a second time, "Yes, that is also true."
"Of course I would, Melanie. We're friends," Paine smiled brightly at the white, winged wolf, "Right?" hearing herself say the words, she reminisced about Zack the puppy, and suddenly felt very confused. Then, with a smirk at herself, she shook her head, amused. Maybe he was rubbing off on her - or at least on her pup; that much was obvious.

Melanie smiled. She was glad she didn't offend her new friend. "Yeah I suppose so. Course it might not be the same for him. He doesn't go see anyone else but me." She tilted her head when Paine began speaking of Nox, "You had a bodyguard? And he followed after you? He must certainly be loyal to you.... and care for you even if it is a sibling kind of love." She found it very cool and neat that Paine had a bodyguard.
"Oh yes, yes we are friends!" She replied while wagging her tail. It made her very happy to have a new friend. She didn't have many after all. She looked around the area trying to decide where to start looking. "Do you have any ideas of where a good place to look would be?"

Paine thought for a moment, and to avoid making things sound awkward, said, slowly, "...He will find someone. All wolves do." She hoped her musings didn't make her sound like she thought she knew everything - she had seen much of the world though, and wanted to share. Nodding with a serene smile when asked about Nox, she mused, "Yes, I suppose so...ever since I was young. I was just as surprised to see him again; I thought they'd sent him to hunt me at first," she let out a little nervous chuckle, then squeezed her eyes shut, "But, my family wouldn't do that....I do hope." she put in, a little listlessly.
With all of her worries taken away with the excitement Melanie exhibited at their friendship, a placid smile fell onto her face and her tail slipped into a gentle wag. "Hmm..." Paine plopped down on her haunches for a moment, "It won't be anywhere easy to find, I don't think..." she was starting to go back into the mode she had went into when she was forced to hide - even though she doubted Phoebe was forced into hiding.

Melanie nodded. "I hope so. Maybe then he won't be so moody." She said. She listened intently when she spoke again of Nox. "Why would they send someone to hunt you? A family is supposed to stick together and care for one another." She asked starting to frown.
Seeing the smile made her smile again and her tail wagged a little. "Well I've checked the most obvious and nearby spots. She wasn't there. I don't really know of any other spots to look." She said before falling silent. Where was Phoebe at and why had she left in the first place.
