Voters vote to make possession legal in DenverYay! First topic! That's right Denver citizens voted to make it legal to be in possession of up to an ounce of marijuana. That doesn't mean it'd be legal to use or smoke. Unfortunately the mayor is still trying to shoot it down. This happened a couple of months ago, so I don't know what's happening now. What does everyone think about this? Anyone from Denver or Colorado who knows any follow-up on this?

( Initiative Language) Alcohol is far more harmful than marijuana, both to the user and to the society, and Denver citizens are fed up with a system that punishes them for choosing to use a safer substance. It is time our government stops driving people to drink and allow them to make the safer choice. .

Well just by a quick read I'm glad that Denver is getting it through their head about the safety. Wonder how long it will last until it either spreads or (hopefully not) gets knocked down.

If it's attempted I doubt the law will be totally 100% erased. In the past few years Marjiuana activists have made great strides. There's still a long way to go, but slow progress is being made.

That would be cool for possession to be legalized then you just have to worry about getting caught smoking and that can be obviously avoided.

I agree that any step towards my ultimate goals (legalization of all drugs, marijuana to be treated like tobacco and sold over the counter, and all other drugs to be legal with a prescription and maybe some open minded doctors out there, and maybe some freedom for use for religious purposes, hmm.. i haven't thought all my non-marijuana laws out yet) is a step forward. Like someone said, you would no longer be introuble for possessing, it would be easier to avoid being caught smoking it.
I thought that I heard that the legality in Denver was because of a statute allowing anything to become law if a certain percentage or more of the population voted for it. I think that's a sensible policy. If 75% of any group of people will agree that marijuana should be legal, then the police should just let it go. 51% of the sometimes easily swayed masses wouldn't convince me. But 75% would. Wish we had that in my state...

With regards to legalization, I think if they legalize it in one city, they should at least legalize it in the rest of the state/province.
I was talking to some girl I met in Ann Arbor about pot and she said that in Ann Arbor the cops don't really care if you're smoking a joint, but she then told me about her sister who lived in Kalamazoo got fined for carrying a gram.
