It's a hundred and fifty years in the future.
The city is dark, as is always is-they’d killed the sun some fifty years ago, and now everyone lives in the cities or…they don’t live anywhere at all. There is no more sun, so the only plants-and animals-are grown and raised in special habitats. Outside of these habitats and the domes over each city, the Earth is barren and lifeless. Ninety percent of all species of flora had died off within a week, and fauna had been wiped out not long after that, leaving only the deep sea fish the most numerous things still able to live without the sun.
It's night all the time and that has made the Earth a haven for all the creatures of the dark. The humans are trying to figure out a way to restart the sun, some nuclear explosion or a chemical reaction on a massive scale or something like that, but they're the ones who had killed the sun to start with, so who knows how that will go.
Riku is no more, leaving only Ansem in his place, and together with Axel, they have become two of the most feared crusniks in any of the cities. They've also made a lot of enemies. Fifty years ago while the sun was dying, Axel ambushed Xigbar's brother Xaldin and managed to defeat him in an unfair fight. Now Axel wears one of his fangs in an earring as a trophy.
Demyx is a famous rockstar again-everyone's well aware of his vampiric nature, and the media protects him from any hunters.
