All y'all lived closer. I'd have the guild over for turkey noodle soup from scratch. (And I mean from stock to noodles, scratch, babies!)

That would be wonderful. I would deeply appreciate some real food. heart

That sounds really good....I've never had noodles made from scratch.

I'd bake a cake to bring.

*huggles* heart heart

Homemade noodles are a big part of my history--well, to me anyway--it's a whole bunch of nice memories all clustered together. Good food, the holidays before I came to detest them, laughing, spending time with my gramma (and sometimes even getting along with my mom.) She'd (gramma) make chicken 'n' noodles for Thanksgiving, Christmas, sometimes certain potluck events and ONCE in a great while because I asked for them. And I love them...and mine don't hold a candle to hers but I'm guessing about how she made them pieced together from my swiss cheese memory.

Doesn't much matter, the process and the food even if it isn't the same is really evocative.

On a related note, after a test batch for lunch I just used rice noodles in the soup and H still ate 3/4 of a gallon. sweatdrop I got one small bowl and then I went in the kitchen while he was getting seconds in time to see him spooning all the broth out of the pot. =( So he got to eat the brothless last part too 'cause that wasn't fair. It takes me at least 6 hours to do stock even if I don't reduce it like this last time. And I hardly ever get more than one bowl.

Maybe you should hide a second bowl from yourself somewhere and heat is up later.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 17, 2010 5:16 am

That's a good point Mich. Hide some next time, it's not fair otherwise.

I have the same feeling about mint creams...my great gran used to buy them for me, and I'll get them whenever I get the chance. They just bring back all those sweet childhood memories of days and my grans. Same with a lot of kiddy food.

It's a fabulous idea. But he's got "Mel is eating" farking radar. I cannot bite my tongue around here w/o "what'cha eatin'?" Quite literally. =(

And he can eat a 3 course meal and be groaning and moaning that he's so full he's gonna throw up but you can bet your bottom dollar if I grab a potato chip or a cookie he's directly off with a bowl to fill up.

On the same token if I get what is usually left for me to eat and eat that and try to get on w/my life he's all "you're not eating? that's not enough! I don't want you sick! EAT! EAT!" (riding my a** till I want to kill him and if I'm ever on Snapped! that's gonna be why.) But if I have seconds no matter how much food I've made and he's eaten (usually everything I didn't bolt down within minutes of or during the making) what's he do?

"I'm so hungry!" and marches directly off to eat every snack in the house.

I made a 2 course meal last week (big appetizer, entree+sides) that I barely got to taste and he ate all of it plus half a box of oranges, 3 icecreams, 2 big bowls of chips, 2 GIANT bowls of cereal, 2 gallons of water, a 6 pk of soda and whatever he ate when he was next door. They usually have chips and fruit for him when they can afford it.

Nothing around here is really fair. *chuckle* I'm honestly surprised I'm not in jail for snapping and doing something heinous. Goodness knows I've thought of a lot of heinous things to do in the last 2 1/2-3 yrs.

Dah! So busy bitching I became self-centered.

Cookie story>AWW! gonk heart heart Pistachio pudding here...though I haven't had it in years. I do get a pang in my chest when I see it in the stores though...

And just lately we bought some bowls that are very similar to a st my gramma had. I get all wistful when I use them but I can also see every color in my gramma's kitchen.

Aww, that's really rubbish Felly. I get told of for not eating when everyone else does...and normally that's because I'm actually not hungry.

Could we break the radar?

What cookie? Is there a mint cream cookie? For me it's like...um...do you have mintcake? That white, pepperminty flaky stuff? My mint creams are more like that...
PostPosted: Sun Sep 19, 2010 5:57 am

Tell me about it. sweatdrop I get flak for that too. I hate it when he tells me I am hungry. stressed

With a brick, maybe.

Oh, haha, culture gap! Y'know I lurked through yesterday and went to find a picture of what I meant and found out they don't really make them anymore. And haven't for years.

My first thought was a Grasshopper which is a chocolate sandwich cookie/biscuit with bright green mint creme/icing/fondant in the middle. Mint cremes themselves are often the same thing but the stuff in the center isn't dyed. Or it's a single shallow cookie with mint icing/fondant/creme in the depression and the whole thing is dipped in chocolate.

Now: most of what you'll find is a chocolate-dipped chocolate mint cookie. gonk

As far as mintcake...unless you're talking about the Kendal Mint Cake thingy I just wiki'd I have no clue. D: Well, or if it's like a Dutch candy called Mint Creme, little weird discs...buhhh...I do not know.

I know the feeling. If I'm hungry, I'll tell you.

Hmm...I might have one?

We don't normally get that. The culture gap thing. But those cookies sound GOOD...wonder if I could get them.

They are little discs...and a bit like kendels mint cake but they're soft in the middle.

Exactly.

heart

There are some things. ^_^ It's mostly odd words but that's amusing. I haven't the foggiest notion of how to tell you to get them.

AHAH! My first thought was this...we have something like that only it's a flattish candy and always covered in dark chocolate...a really strong peppermint (IMO and I'd much prefer spearmint.) I talked about them before:

Edit: On an unrelated note, either of you know anything about buying corsets? Specifically for outerwear?

Oh we have that kind too...but not by that name.

I've never bought one for outerwear...but I suppose it depends what you want it for.
Edit: And what you plan on wearing with it. Would it be a sort of casual corset or a going out one?
PostPosted: Mon Sep 20, 2010 5:52 am

Neat. ^_^

Buuh, ok. This may be a long post. XD For costume purposes and for going out casually. Not clubbing as I don't club anymore. I want it able to be worn alone (eg: with jeans and/or with a cami and to close when I do so so that I have no back fat peeking out of the laces) and over a feather-to-medium weight chemise/shirt/dress.

I'm small on top and wider on the bottom. In fact I'm so small on top it makes my hips look out of control unless I dress to hide it and I normally do. I have a short torso, like way shorter than European and noticeably shorter than average--there again unless I dress to mask it. The distance from my collarbones to the tops of my breasts and the distance from my band line to...let's say hip sockets... All short.

And apparently all these measurements combine to make me very narrow between the shoulder blades since any pre-made bodices or bodices from pre-made patterns have a ridiculous gap between the base of my neck and band line in the back and said straps usually sit more than 1 1/2" off my shoulders. But I want straps. Nnrgh!

I cannot afford custom. Unless I'm a corset-wearing witch or whatever every year for Halloween until I die I'll never be able to justify the cost, no matter how much I'd love to give all my money to starkers or absolute corsets or...bah, I can't remember the custom 3 and 5 lace site I saw yesterday.

Anyway, unfortunately I'm not interested in waist training (and do not want to be compressed much more than 2" on the outside) but I am interested in steel boning as plastic buckles on me almost immediately. I'm too slouchy. Before I get to steel though, I need to get some idea if it's even possible to fit myself with the results I want.

The main issues are I want a long overbust corset to compress the belly but that can also be laced shut in the back because I like to run around in as little as possible. XD The problem with all of this is if I get what I want in the bust I'm going to be too small down the body and if I get what I want from band line down my bust is going to be running around inside the top unchecked.

I don't even begin to know how to try and find a fit like that in a mass product except the length which I guess by the way the models look/are proportioned/etc.

That was a long post...
Ok. So basically you want an overbust, steel boned corset, dressy enough to go out in, but also able to wear with jeans.
With straps?
As opposed to laced shut, I would suggest a modesty panel. It hides your back while keeping some lacing showing, so it looks pretty.

But you're an awkward size...like most women. Will suppress rant about mass produced clothing.
I read somewhere that the best measurement to take was your waist.

Can I send you here briefly? Just so I can see what you're really looking for. Promise the link is ok.
