Only at colleges do things like this seem to happen. I wouldn't go topless though, no way. Quote: Topless women go bonkers over inequality in Maine By Glenn Adams Associated Press Updated: 04/30/2010 01:24:14 PM CDT FARMINGTON, Maine — A forecast of sunny skies in April in Farmington, Maine, seems like the perfect time to put the top down. But a drive in an open-air convertible isn't what female residents have in mind. Today, nearly two dozen women marched topless through the college town to protest a double-standard that allows men to take off their shirts on a hot summer day. It's already legal for women to bare their chests in public in Maine. But the protesters want it to also become socially acceptable. Today's event was organized by University of Maine at Farmington student Andrea Simoneau. She participated in a similar event earlier this month in Portland and decided to try it in Farmington. http://www.twincities.com/weird/ci_14992237

If I ever do decide to go topless than it'll only be inside my house when there's no one around other than that... I'll keep my top on thank you very much.

I'd never go topless. I love being a woman and different from men.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that they make me ashamed to be female. I frankly think women are way too hard on and judgmental of other women. I try not to do that.
I think it's not a very smart idea they had there. Especially for where we live...it's a societal taboo. Fact is, men and women are different and it's a beautiful thing. Breasts, in the West especially, are sexual and will be treated as such. If I walk around topless in public, the last thing I'll be allowed to be is cool.
I do do it in my house all the time though. I couldn't be bothered.

I think if men are allowed to be topless then women should be as well. and if women aren't allowed to be topless then neither should men.
Its double standards like this that seriously hold us back as a society

I wouldn't do it myself except in the privacy of my own home. But I also don't have the body to pull something like that off.
I don't have a problem with these women doing this. It indicates they are comfortable with whom they are. So long as no one is getting hurt and no laws are being broken what's the problem?
But this goes along with breast feeding in public. If people didn't view the female breast as a sexual part of the body these issues would be non existent.

So True, but you have to remember that the people who started this country were very conservative. It takes time for such views to change. I still don't think I would in public, but if you are comfortable with yourself, all the power to you. smile

If men are allowed to go topless, women should have just as much right. If you are comfortable enough about yourself to do this I sa more power to you. A topless women is easier on the eyes than some hairy or beer bellied topless guy. This is a stupid double standard.

This is precisely what I was saying. It's where we/you live. My Nigerian lecturer grew up in rural Nigeria where it's perfectly normal and unsexual to see women with bared breasts. People ask him if it wasn't an erotic thing...he says, "Of course not!"
I think that while we live in a culture where breast baring is taboo and sexual, it's important to be mindful of that. Some people will be incredibly judgmental and it could also give some people the wrong idea.
I don't have a problem with it.
