Well, think about it this way--if he wasn't dead, then that memorial at Gaia HQ was all for nothing, our mourning would be all for nothing and some of the users would be pissed because they wanted a change/continuation of plot.
Now, since there was a memorial and the friendship link (which feature Gambino first) was change to the current one (Ian and Rufus), and that Gino's credit card and phone are disconnected. I would definitely say that Gambino will not be coming back.
Even though, there is now a void in Gaia, the good news is we may get a new character (or someone will rise up and become) the new powerful "ruler" of Gaia. Which could be that welder or perhaps Gino will get a pair, his voice will deepen and he will get muscles? (amusing idea, lmao), but honestly, one must know that Gaia is in for a change and if it leads to an awesome event--so be it.
