Esan sat on an old log, he ran his knife down a stick. Creating a point. The campfire crackled loudly, Esan sat and enjoyed it. His swords was in his scabbard, it was lying next to him. In the wet orange leaves. His armor lied next to an old tree, the fire gave off enough light to see it. It was dented, red drops and streaks could be seen on it. Esan yawned, he heard light footsteps behind him, the twigs under the feet let off a small crack. Esan quickly turned and tossed his sharpened stick at the enemy. It flew past the person. "Your aims off, Esan." Said the female voice. Esan realized who it was and smirked.
"I'm just tired, it was a long journey." Said Esan, stretching. "So, Kikyo, where's the rest of the group?"
"They're on their way, they wanted to pick a up a few more sticks for the fire."
The fire still glowed brightly, Esan could hear the drunken singing of his troops in the distance. The rest of the group emerged from the shadows of the forest.
"Esan, they are getting loud..." Said FubukiT, looking over to the troops. Behind him was Becca, Andrew, and Baltro.
"They're just drunk. Let them enjoy the small party. It was a long day..." Said Esan with a small laugh.
"What a lazy general..." Muttered Becca.
"I don't see you doing anything." Laughed Esan.
"I gathered some wood, FubukiT brought food, Baltro watched over to make sure nothing happened. What did you do?"
"I watched over to troops." Answered Esan, he stared into the fire. He remembering the raging fires of the battle earlier in the day. The screams of the frightened citizens. The citizens he couldn't protect. Kikyo saw Esan gaze into the fire, she knew his expression.
"It's ok. We were able to kill the rogues. The citizen's may of died, but with their death, came safety to other villages." Said Kikyo.
"Yah, I should of looked at it that way!" Laughed Esan, he stood up and stretched again. Water dripped from the large trees that loomed over them.
"If your done relaxing, we need to plan for tomorrow." Said FubukiT, he reached into his pocket. He pulled out a small, folded map. He rolled it out on a small moldy stump. The map's edges and sides were tattered. Stains were on the map aswell. "I suggest we go this way." Said FubukiT, as he traced the trail with his finger. The group nodded, Baltro yawned.
"Tactical planning is so boring. Can't we just decide on the way tomorrow?" Asked Baltro, she was tired of all the talk.
"Tactics are important, what if we are ambushed as we plan? We wouldn't be able to finish it." Answered Andrew with a know-it-all tone.
"Patience is a virtue..." Muttered FubukiT. "We must plan this out, no matter how much time this takes. I'd rather be tired then dead..." The fire still flickered as they spoke.
Hours passed, the fire was slowly going down. The night began to become day. The sun could be seen rising over a small hill in the distance, the trail was covered with a variety of leaves. Baltro sat as the group finished up the plan. Her head bobbed up and down. Struggling to stay awake, the water dripping from the trees made a nice beat. "Alright, its done." Said Becca, yawning. She walked to her tent, FubukiT stood up and followed her. Esan got up and was about to go to his cozy tent when Andrew stopped him.
"Your going to keep guard tonight." Muttered Andrew, he yawned as he said it. The troops drunken roars settled down, Esan just nodded at Andrew's command. Too tired to resist, he slowly sulked over to the log he was previously sitting on. He sat and stared into the glowing embers that remained from the fire. He couldn't help and remember the day again. The screams of helpless citizens. The decision to slay to the rogue leader, or to save the village by opening the closed locked gate that kept the rogue from running was echoing in his head. He was able to slay the rogue leader, at the cost of half a village. He lowered his head, hoping more villagers were able to escape the raging fire. Esan shook her head, he hated being shrouded with regret. The wind began to howl, the leaves danced and flew across the forest floor. The tree tops shook, light water droplets rained down. Like a small rain storm, the sound was soothing. Esan lied back on the log, the embers giving off some heat. Esan grabbed his scabbard and held it in his left hand. His right hand over the hit of his blade. He lied in the position, he didn't like being in this dark forest. Barely any light was able to peak through the crowd of trees. The howling grew, what was thought to be the wind was really a lone wolf. The embers and the fragile sunlight that poked through the tree tops should it, it's eyes glew. The silver fur shone with the light, glistening. A low growl came from it, it slowly walked around Esan. Esan sat himself up, his hand was tightly gripped on the hilt of his blade. He had slain beasts stronger then this before. It continued to circle Esan, it's teeth could be seen. He let out a loud, vicious growl as it lunged itself at Esan. It's mouth wide open, the teeth were snow white. Esan quickly slashed his sword, the wolf dropped dead by his side. It's forehead shined with red blood, Esan wiped his sword on the leaves. Leaving a small red line on the leaves. He stuck his cleaned sword into the scabbard. He lied to sheathed sword beside the log. He dragged the wolf in few yards away, then returned to camp. More light was poking it's way through the tree tops. The group emerged from their tents with a yawn.
"Good morning." Muttered the tired Esan, his eye's were bloodshot from the loss of sleep.
"Go ahead and sleep. I'm going to wake up the troops and prepare them for the journey." Said FubukiT, Esan was already asleep. His snores were loud, the rang through the forest. FubukiT just shook his head, and began his walk to the troop's camp. Becca followed him, Baltro poked Esan with her sheathed sword. Andrew shook his head.
