What is your idea of romantic food? What would you pack for a significant other, or what would you want packed for you? Any specific style?
Is the ideal Valentines Bento sweet or savory?
Discuss lovey business here! mrgreen

...I'm sadly one of those unfortunate singles but I think the single most romantic meal I've had was when a boyfriend took me to a nice italian place.
I always associate good pasta with love and comfort.

@Luna, That sounds sweet! And indeed, the strawberry is already heartshaped if you cut it longways 3nodding hmm if you were packing this into a bento, since you want to keep it simple, I'd try colored rice as a filler! Yay food coloring ^^
@Geebs, Pfft, unfortunate nothing! Being single on Valentines day is a little irritating, but if you can't profess love to a significant other or friendly love to ... well, a friend lol then you can profess it to yourself! Mmmn, have you ever made a pink vodka sauce? I just got a mental picture of cheese tortellini and some simple pan fried chicken with vodka sauce on it~~ That sounds lovely

jinx, I can't ever say that i have ever made pink vodka sauce! It sounds good though. Ofcourse on that front of professing love to yourself, I do admit to doing that, usually by cooking something lovely, depending on my mood, like making a watermelon sorbet, or just plain chicken pasta purses. (sort of like pierogi except filled with cooked and spiced ground chicken, cheese and usually some sort of green veggie for health!)

I would try mixing some red food coloring with rice, or finding a redish rice, get a heart shaped cutter and mold the rice in it. Either make a bunch of those or pack regular rice around it as a background.

@Friskit_Geeba, (haha 5 yrs later sweatdrop ) I definitely suggest the sauce! They even sell them premade now biggrin And whoa, that sounds like some awesome self love right there! Its definitely necessary to treat yourself every so often, b/c honestly if you don't who will?
@Tanikaze, heart shaped rice would be cute, but I'd definitely want more to eat than just colored rice! I've recently seen some sushi rolls with hearts inside them? I've been quite taken with decorative sushi rolls lately, I'll have to post pix 4laugh That way you can have the cute effect of heart shaped rice, but with the addition of veggies or w/e 3nodding

Fun fact: strawberries are an aphrodisiac. Of course, those of us who have eaten them more than sparingly are immune to the effects, but introduce it to someone who's never had them before and, well, fun times.

For romantic food I usually think of steak, wine and alfredo pasta. Shrimp would probably be included in that if I could eat it. I'm trying to figure out what I am going to make my BF tomorrow for out dinner. I already have chocolate covered strawberries I made and chocolate wine.
I need to look up pictures of cute bentos..... I'm not sure what recipe to make though.... I like really unique dishes for special occasions. I have a heart rice shaper and kind of want to dye the rice pink but he doesn't like stuff like that in his food. >_<;;
If I do end up making a bento I'll post pictures here. smile

Sadly, I didn't have time to make a v-day bento for my fiance, so I'm making a v-day dinner and dessert. For dinner I'm making a Thai Curry beef over rice that I'm pressing into a heart shape. (spicy things are supposed to be good for your heart and...other things XD ) with heart shaped carrot and potato slices. For dinner I'm making a small heart shaped cake. Strawberry jello mouse in between the layers of the vanilla and strawberry marbled cake. I'm icing it in Ombre red to light pink icing... and then.... some champagne with strawberry slices and puree!!!!! I'm so EXCITED!!!! n__n
