I saw two dudes, one draped in the Australian flag, pissing side by side against a wall on a major street of Melbourne's CBD a couple of hour ago. ******** classy Australia Day Invasion Day shenanigans.

Comrade Kotka DanskiWolf No way, you is soooo hardcooooore. Believe it, suckah. That's what it represents. Part of what it represents. I mean, to ignore all the positive things in our history, and all the great things about our country, and the luxuries we are lucky enough to enjoy, is just plain... mean. It's mean.

I guess Australia being all cool and stuff by you makes celebrating colonialism okay then? Glad we got that straight. Anyway, we've been through allllll this before on chat or something.

I think we might have, but Australia day = Colonialism is just... well, if you were baffled by my views on racism, times it by three, and there you have it.

If we had to have it on the day of Federation (Januray 1) it'd have to be shared with New Years Day. And that would suck.

Hooray for partriotism and the founding of a racist, anti-working class, genocidal gaol colony!

Gracchia Saint-Justine Hooray for partriotism and the founding of a racist, anti-working class, genocidal gaol colony! You know what's anti-working class? That spelling of "jail". Why must you be a borugeoise reactionary?

Why must you be a borugeoise reactionary? Gonna have to side with Gracc on this one. I'll be damned when I start spelling it the American way. I think I only do it when I don't think the person I am in conversation with can understand.

Comrade Kotka The Curse Comrade Kotka I guess Australia being all cool and stuff by you makes celebrating colonialism okay then? Glad we got that straight. Anyway, we've been through allllll this before on chat or something. I think we might have, but Australia day = Colonialism is just... well, if you were baffled by my views on racism, times it by three, and there you have it. Why? Wikipedia: "Celebrated annually on 26 January, the day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of Australia." =| And how many of your mates were standing at the barbeque toasting to Captain Cook, and the Slave Labour? How many of them were basking in the glory of the British expansionist policies? Celebrating Australia day is apolitical. It might exist because of the day Australia was born and.. so what? The day is about Australia, not the raping of the land. Not racism. Not colonialism or imperialism or anything of the sort. It's about our country, what we love about it and all the like. I am sure that after conversion to a republic, Australia day will be on the same date, even if the official declaration of independence is not. Something tragic has happened on every single day of the year significant to Australia. No matter when we celebrated it, there is absolutely no way the day could not then be associated with a terrible event, or some group could call it insensitive, you'd just rename it from 'invasion day' to 'slavery day' or 'intervention day' or 'Dead Ned day' or some other thing.
