Already a week or so after the twin weapons and technician had heard news of their promotion, and Rainer was still giddy about it. One moment everything would seem like a usual day the next his twin would smiling like a goof, his mind already straying towards their rise in rank.

His brother’s constant repetition made Caine want to repeatedly smash his head against a wall. Was his twin stupid, or what? Actually, don’t answer the question. He didn’t want someone to inform him. The younger would gladly prefer clinging onto that little bit of doubt that maybe his sibling wasn’t as idiotic as he appeared to be.

Rainer could be an airhead at times (a lot of times), but his intentions were always good. Just like now, when out of worry pulled Caine out of the house and to the park to soak up some rays of sunshine.

While Caine lounged on the grass, partially covered by shade, Rainer stood by the pond, happily tossing bread crusts to the ducks. He sighed and closed his eyes, glad to find peace at the park.

Aaaaand that peace didn't last long. A girl with white hair wearing a stereotypical reaper's hood and cloak came running by. In her hand was a kite string and behind her was the sad little kite that couldn't. She kept running, trying to get it the lift she needed. However not much was happening.

The Crescent Scythe had come to the park by herself today; Wendell was helping with a funeral service at the house so there was no way they were training or having any fun. He took his family's business seriously, much more seriously than Annabelle took her own family's business. Then again her family owned land and operated businesses on them. Her own father, one of the youngest of 10 boys, ran cemeteries. Usually for the wealthy and elite of society.

But right now, the only thing the little white haired reaper wanted to do was to get her skull kite in the air. This included a hop over a sleeping blond and running past another blond by the pond.

Caine preferred peace and quiet. His number one hobby, after all, was sleeping. Loud music and sudden sounds irked him quite easily, but so did many other things. It always connected back to being woken up from his sleep, though.

Hearing the thrashing and billowing of something, Caine cracked open a dark blue eye. A flash of white against black and the boy reluctantly propped up his elbows to catch a better look at the passerby. The fallen kite bounced past him as the stranger smoothly jumped over him. He raised an eyebrow at them, wondering if they had ever flown a kite before. A sigh and he lied back down in the grass, highly doubting it.

As the girl passed Rainer he curiously turned around, his eyes lighting up with delight. He liked kites. How long ago had it been since the boy had last played with one? Noticing how low it flew, he hollered out to her. “Do you want your kite to fly higher? Because I think I could help with that!

Annabelle stopped as someone yelled at her. She looked back, panting quite a bit due to her tremendous effort to get the little cloth thing in the air. She nodded and collected the string again with the kite and walked over to the two-tone boy.

"Yeah I would. I've never really flown one before but my Technician said I should go fly one after I asked if he wanted to come to the playground with me. So I thought it might be fun!" She grinned brightly then looked down to the strange contraption. Despite her semi-normal upbringing Annabelle was still raised in an upper class household. Child activities did not include flying kites; heck she barely had permission to watch Saturday morning cartoons.

"I've seen it on cartoons before it always looked so easy then," she pouted a bit, "Oh! How rude of me. My name is Annabelle, I'm a Weapon at the school. A crescent scythe to be exact! Nice ta meetcha!" she held out her hand as her reaper cloak slid backwards to reveal a very pale arm. The white haired girl was all smiles.

As the girl spoke of her “technician”, Rainer was instantly reminded of Shibusen. It was not surprising to coincidentally bump into fellow peers. From his knowledge of the city, there were few (if any) other schools within the area. Most of the other kids near his age that the blond met were highly likely to be students also attending Shibusen.

Acting as his usual self, light blue eyes lit up with delight at this revelation. “Technician? So you go to Shibusen, too! I’m also a weapon. Oh! And my brother too, Caine,” the lad commented, gesturing towards his dozing sibling. “Annabelle? That’s a pretty name. I like it! My name’s Rainer, Rainer Moreau.

Rainer hollered for his brother to wake up, as he felt the younger twin could do a better job at flying a kite than he could. “Crescent scythe? That’s cool! Caine and I are fighting fans,” he answered.

Caine reluctantly trudged over. “Hn,” he grunted and took the kite, unfurling the strings as a strong breeze passed them. Tossing it into the air, it caught onto the wind and he began to run against the wind.

"Wow, BOTH of you are weapons? That's so AWESOME! Gosh I couldn't imagine if any of my siblings were weapons. I'm the first in my family," she looked amazed at the idea of siblings being weapons, not to mention weapons that were used together. She had heard about several pairs of these but had never met them. She looked over to the semi-sleeping boy, realizing she had jumped clear over him during her run.

"Oh thank you! Mummy said I was named after her favorite Edgar Allan Poe poem. My Technician's name is Wendell Van de Burg. But you can just call me Anna, it's easier," she smiled to the boy as he explained that he was a fighting fan. Oh she had seen those in all the martial arts movies she watched. Not to mention a few animes. That was so cool!

"Yeah, I like being a Scythe. I mean it's a good symbol for both me and Wendell, considering our family businesses," she stopped talking the moment her kite was in the air. She squeeled in delight and ran with Caine. She clapped her hands, bouncing a little as she watched her little skull kite soar into the air.

"You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for helping me! Say, have either of you gone on any missions yet? I've only gone on one but I plan to get more!"

Rainer nodded his head. He could understand Annabelle’s feelings. Both Caine and he were the first in their family as well. As far back as they could recall in their family tree, anyways. Although the twins hailed from France, he was beginning to wonder if some Asian weapon had married into their family many generations ago. It was interesting to see a pair of Europeans transform into an Oriental weapon, but that was just his thoughts.

I don’t have any other siblings so I can’t quite relate to that,” Rainer replied sheepishly. His ears then perked up at the mention of the famous poet. Though he was more of a sports-type than anything, it was still interesting to hear this snippet. “That’s neat! My parents didn’t name Caine or I after anything in particular. They just liked the names, I suppose,” he laughed. “Wendell, hm? Well my technician is named Kang Ling. She’s an adorable little thing!

She began to speak of family businesses and Rainer curiously cocked his head at her. “Family businesses?” he repeated. He never got an answer.

Anna chased after Caine and Rainer soon followed suit. Once the wind picked up speed and power the younger boy ceased his running and let the gusts of air do the rest. He glanced at Annabelle for looking away with a grunt. “Flying a kite isn’t that hard,” mumbled the weapon.

Oh yeah! We’ve been on a couple. Haven’t gone any since we got promoted, but we’re planning on doing another one soon,” replied Rainer.

She turned to Caine as he spoke, looking a bit embarrassed at his comment but bounced back. Anna giggled and did a cute girl blush, "Well it is hard for me. I've never done it before. My family didn't consider this to be a proper past time for an up and coming lady in the Lee Family."

She turned back to Rainer to answer his previous question before she had taken off after the other twin, "Yeah, family business. My family buys, sells, and operates land based businesses. Currently my father and siblings all run some of the wealthiest graveyards in Death City."

She looked up into the sky seeming lost in thought for a moment, "The Lee family has a tradition that one out of every generation has to run a graveyard. My dad was the one chosen amongst him and his nine brothers. I suspect I'm the next in line to inherit the graveyard ownership as my siblings are all running their own businesses as well."

She reached into the large sleeve of her robe and produced a picture of a black haired goth kid with a lip ring and bright green eyes. He hardly looked happy at having his picture taken. She showed it to Rainer, "This is my technician Wendell, Wendell Van de Burg. Sole heir of the Van de Burg Mortuary and Funeral home! His family has been in that business for centuries. All the way back to Sweden where his grandfather is from."

She placed the picture back in her sleeve and smiled, "So yeah, being a scythe is really representative of our family businesses. His prepares the bodies and mine buries them."

Her attention was immediately drawn to his next statement about missions. She got wide eyed and looked at them both, "You've already gotten promoted!? That's so awesome!! I can't wait for me and Wendell to get promoted. We so totally ruled on our first mission. Some guy strangling people and whatnot. But we took him out!" She looked quite proud of this.

Caine questioningly stared at her through half-lidded eyes. He did not understand girls sometimes. Repeating his words over in his head, the boy found nothing embarrassing about the statement. If anything, the weapon found it insulting and he had not a problem with that. The female species were an enigma a lot of the times. He could not understand their reactions. Caine tolerated Kang Ling; the main reason being that she was his technician. Rather than attempt to unfurl the mystery of girls, he put away the puzzle to solve for another time. He would be figuring that one out for years to come. At least the boy could glean some logic from the girl’s answer.

Oh, I see,” he replied without the slightest interest. He held the kite’s strings towards her and motioned for Anna to grab it. “So long as the wind holds, you don’t need to do anything in particular.

Rainer slowly nodded his head once, mouth gaping. “Oh, I see! Graveyards, huh? I’ll admit that it is pretty fitting with you being a scythe and all that,” agreed the blond as he crossed his arms.

As she absent-mindedly angled her head towards the sky the older twin curiously followed suit, wondering if her gaze had caught something interesting. Although Rainer failed to see what Annabelle had in mind, he perked up when he noticed the peculiar shapes of the fluffy clouds and as they lazily meandered through the deep blue. “Tradition, hm?” he quietly mused. “Our family don’t have any specific traditions. Just your average modern, French family, I guess.

Annabelle reached into one of robe sleeves and Rainer blinked at her, wondering what she would pull out. She took out a photograph of a dark-haired boy, bright green eyes staring at the camera and looking disgruntled. “You even carry around a picture of your technician? Neat!” he remarked.

More like creepy,” grumbled Caine, words going by his twin.

Rainer eagerly nodded his head at her. “Yup! Can’t wait for the two of you to get promoted!” Rainer answered. “Ah . . . our first mission was alright, I suppose. Ended a bit bloodier than I thought it would.

"Thanks Caine! You're the best!" she flashed him her best million dollar smile and took the string. This was kind of neat, holding onto something totally dependent on the wind to keep it afloat yet if it weren't for the string it would sail off then plummet to the ground. It made her think of the connection between a weapon and a tech. A weapon was strong by itself but was useless without the knowledge and skill of the tech. She pushed the picture back into the hidden pocket in her sleeve.

"Yeah I tend to keep his picture around. One year he changed his looks like six times so I just kept one picture around so they could at least recognize his face. Sorta like a habit now," she giggled a bit and let her kite go a bit higher. She looked to the blond as he spoke of his french heritage.

"My family is Eastern European, like Transylvania and places like that. The glorious house of Lee. HA! More like the 'we bred like bunnys' house of Lee. I swear I don't know all of my relatives yet. My dad is the 8th of ten kids, I have four older siblings. All my uncles have at least four or five kids. And that's just this continent's branch! Who knows how many of us are in our birth country," she smirked, imagining what kind of family reunion that would be.

"Wendell's family is Sweedish and Swiss. His dad is like totally huge and his mom is the most awesome cook ever! I like to have dinner at his parents place cause she always has the best food! His grandfather still runs the funeral home back in Sweeden. So what do your parents do? And tell me more about YOUR tech! You haven't spoken much about her," she looked to the two blonds as she continued to hold tight to her kite string.

Caine grunted a second time and gratefully relinquished the thin strings to the girl, gladly stuffing his hands into the pockets of his jeans. He cast his dark blue eyes away from her, his gaze meeting his brother’s for a fraction of a second before Caine directed them to the ground. The weapon took a step towards the tempting, cool shade of the tree, its yellow-green leaves alluring tempting in the breeze. A socialite he was not. That was more of Rainer’s department. If anything, Caine suited the role of the “sleepy yet grumpy smart guy”. There were few he chose to willingly associate of his own accord, but he was willing to interact with others if his twin urged him enough.

A large smile always gracing the older twin’s face, he smoothly reached forward and pulled his brother back without skipping a beat. “Is that so? It must’ve been interesting to see all his changes! To be honest, I can’t imagine my technician, myself, or my brother drastically changing their appearance anytime soon,” Rainer replied.

He gawked at the description Anna had given him. “Wow, that’s some family you have there! Caine and I don’t have a very big family, adopted or otherwise. We have a little sister though,” added the blond. Once he made sure his brother was secured in place, Rainer stood back and watched the kite flitter and dance across the sky, its colorful tail whipping in the wind.

Neat. I think our technician has pretty good cooking, but it’s nothing like my mother’s! Makes me a bit homesick.” He mused it over for a brief moment before piping up again. “My technician hasn’t revealed much about herself. She’s a quiet girl, you know? But we know she’s Chinese and from California. She also likes to read books a lot, mainly novels.

Annabelle giggled a bit as Rainer kept his seemingly grumpy twin next to him. He kinda reminded her of Wendell when they were younger. Anna always had to keep him socially active, whether he wanted to or not! She giggled again as Rainer spoke of her technician's ever changing looks.

"Well he's kinda a priss sometimes. Never touch his hair you get the grumpiest glare you will ever face!" she made a scary face, or at least as scary as the bubbly girl could manage. She couldn't hold it long and laughed brightly.

If nothing else Anna was proud of her family despite it's business demands and sheer size. Her little (well not LITTLE) chest swelled with pride as Rainer spoke of them. Even a little sentence was enough for her. "Well big families aren't all that great. Smaller families seem more....I dunno...close. Me and my sibs don't see each other all that much between private schools and business training. Heck I don't see even half of my cousins in one year!"

"Wendell's family is really small. Just him and his parents really. They are so close, despite Wendell's "emo phase". Sometimes I wish I was that close, Father usually keeps me at a distance but I know he still loves me," she smiled again always the happy one.

She listened to Rainer speak about missing his mother's cooking and an idea suddenly arose in her little white haired head. "Well then I have the most perfect idea of all ideas!! Why don't we all meet at Wendell's house one day, you and your tech and me and mine, and we'll all have dinner! Mrs. Van de Burg loves to cook for big groups. And what better way to get to know each other than over a nice home cooked meal!"

Rainer chuckled at Annabelle’s description. “Sounds like he highly values his appearance,” he remarked and innocently glanced at his bother with a sly grin before ruffling up Caine’s hair. “In a way, Caine is like that too. Have you noticed how his clothes are so different and stylish compared to my own?” he noted in a teasing tone, gesturing towards the other boy’s layers of clothing and accessories and then to his own plain outfit. “Perhaps the two should meet someday. Now don’t you think that’d be so interesting?

She spoke of her longing for a smaller family and Rainer listened with a serious face. He opened his mouth to make a comment before Caine quipped in, “As the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side. Our parents were somewhat busy with their jobs while we grew up, so having more siblings to play with would have been preferred. It’s good that you know your parental unit cares for you though. A lot of problems stem from a ‘lack of affection’.

The older twin curiously stared at his sibling, wondering if that was the longest thing Caine had ever willingly muttered with no prompting whatsoever. Rainer snapped his fingers and his face lit up at the scythe’s idea. “Yeah, that sounds great! We should totally plan that some day. There’s nothing like a mother’s cooked meal, you know? So delicious and homey and all that,” he replied.

The wind surrounding them began to die down and Rainer gawked as the kite slowly began to sink. “Shoot! What should we do?

Rainer, you idiot. Run! Run that way!” hissed Caine, pointing to the appropriate direction.

"Well it's good for twins to have their own style and ideas. I never understood parents who tried to make their twins mirrors of each other," Annabelle just giggled at the two. Caine seemed to get most of the ribbing while Rainer was seemingly older of the two. And he was cute. She blushed a bit before looking up at her kite again. She listened to Caine's words and nodded. "Yeah I suppose you are right, mum and daddy always have some time for me. Even with there being five of us."

She beamed happily as Rainer got excited about the idea of having dinner at the Van de Burgs. She always enjoyed big meals there with friends, mostly because everyone loved her cooking and was always sent home with leftovers. "Ms. V can fix your favorite meals, she loves a good challenge in the kitchen so just write down what kind of food you like and she'll make it. She has a knack for...oh my kite!"

She squeeked a bit and looked to the boys for instruction. Mostly to Caine since he had been the one to get it up in the first place. Taking a cue from the blond she ran with the string in the direction he pointed, the kite slowly working it's way back up. "Whew! That was close! One good crash and my kite would be finished."

Rainer laughed at her remark about mirrored twins. He had to agree with her sentiment, both of the twins did. Although twins looked quite similar (if fraternal) and sometimes even identical, but what was so special about them? They were still two different souls, two different entities. Was it normal for them to be mirror images of one another? Perhaps in games and stories, but certainly not in real life. One could tell that the two brothers were vastly different from the other. Rainer was older, cheerful, sporty, and a bit on the dense side. On the other hand, Caine was quiet, observant, intelligent, blunt, and oddly fashionable.

We wholeheartedly agree! The world just has an odd fascination with twins, I suppose. See Caine’s and I mirrored hair? Our parents’ doing,” he pointed out with a shrug. Then Rainer got excited. “Anything, hm? I hope your mother knows how to cook French, because—

As she darted in the direction Caine had pointed to, Rainer hastily followed after her (Caine closely behind), always trained to the drooping kite. Once it was back in the safe zone, he grinned and nodded his head. “True! Getting a kite high up in the sky is pretty hard, especially when there’s little to no wind at the time,” he agreed.

No, I think that’s just you,” murmured Caine, who received a laugh from his brother.
