Legends from around the world all talk of creatures that, if we inspect them more closely, turn out to be what are commonly known as vampires. However there are some differences in traits. Post your ideas here about what you think makes a "true" vampire ! ^,,^

im trying to write a vampire story. or, well atleast it has vampires in it. next to werewolves and other supernatural creatures, but my problem is, i dont know what to do with the story line. but from what i wrote. vampires are very real and different from what other people write about them. for instince i dont think that vampires are all that strong unless they have been trained, so if they are 300 years old chances arethey are going to be really strong with all sorts of powers, but new vampires, fledglings, they are easily killed by sunlight.

To what makes a "True" Vampire is these few things, 1: They drink blood,(Of course) 2: They are Undead and Immortal as long as they drink blood, 3: Die from Sun light, 4: The Cross repels them, 5: Garlic Makes them unable to move,(I have no clue why)6: Can be killed be stabbing a Wooden stake through their heart and chopping off their head, 7: Vampires can turn people into Vampires by biting them, then exchanging blood with them.
A few things that may or may not be true are, 1: Vampires can turn into a Bat, Fog, or Wolf,(I have no clue on the wolf or Fog part)2: Vampires have Enhanced strength, Speed, and Agility, 3: Some Vampires have Bat wings growing from their back letting them fly, and that's about it.

I sadly have to disagree with you Dragan. You see, although there were the times when vampires WERE repelled by sunlight, vampires, like humans, need to evolve to stay alive. A vampire may go out into sunlight, but they won't unless nessecary. Because they have stronger vision, the suns rays are more dangerous to their eyesight then it normally is to a human. The blood well.....I think that's something they'll never lose. But there is such a thing as a physic vampire. I happen to know one. She only 'drinks' when I'm feeling horrible because when she 'drinks' I automatically feel great after. Perhaps because they have basically no need for air (The blood provides oxygen in them) That might explain the long life span. The cross only repels those who were extreme chirstians or something who truly believed that god hated them for what they'd become. Garlic? It's called a hypersensitive nose. Remember, their senses are extremly enhanced. I think just about anyone/thing would die from a head being chopped of and stakes? Too many splinters that would lead to infections. I agree on the changing though. The things that might not be true that you listed are 1. and 2. They most definitly have enhanced senses. Strenght? Maybe not. Speed? You've gotta have it to avoid being caught be hunters! Agility? Dodging stakes is hard. Well, there you go! xd

vampire: they dont attack ppl on the streets, nor do they live lk theives and homeless ppl. they r gracefull creatures that may or maynot have a soul. (u take ur pick) they live normal lives just as we do, but they drink blood. and the act of blood drinking is a form of love in their eyes. vampire r real. but they dont fry in the sun nor can they b killed by steaks, silver, or fire. they die nromally lk we do, yes they can live forever... if they r careful. if not they will die. the fact of the matter is, no matter wat u say....
ALL "MYTHICAL" OR "FANTSY" CREATURES R REAL.... INCLUDING VAMPIRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! mrgreen ninja

I agree with Lostintheblood and heartbrokenemochick, but there are some things i disagree on.
For Lostintheblood they do have strength otherwise humens would have taken them down to easilier so they must have some strength, but are not strong enough to take down anything stronger than a rhino. Of course they need speed and agility otherwise they would be killed by not only stakes, but also knifes, guns, crossbow, bow, sword, ect. It doesn't matter if it's silver or not.
For heartbrokenemochick they can live forever, but not long enough to out-age a parret. When you mentioned fire and steaks again it got me thinking. Who wouldn't die from that? So they would be able to die from that, but for silver it depends if its made into a weapon, but other than that they can't die from actual silver. Just weapons especially pepper spray(they won't die from that, but will be blinded). And they don't live normal lives like humans. Instead they are more for wild.
From both you talked about how they can repel from religious icons and other items which is not true. I don't believe vampires would be that spiteful to religions including christianity(depending on if they are some type of demonic entity). You two also mentioned that they drink blood, but just like vampire bats and mosquitos vampires drink blood to gain protein and nutriance. It's in their diet.
I study cryptozooligy and paranormal activity, but further study might be needed.

The vampire myth has been a part of human culture throughout recorded history. It has existed in some form all over the world, predating ancient Egypt and persisting into modern times. There has rarely been a people on earth who did not incorporate into their folklore and legends this idea of a creature that absorbs the life of another into itself through the blood. The earliest recorded evidence comes from Persia and Babylon, but the myth is found all over the world from the Aztecs in Mexico to the Inuit in Alaska. Whether or not these cultures were in contact with each other, or with anyone at all, the myth is present.
It seems to have originated independently as a response to unexplained phenomena common to most cultures. As Dr. Van Helsing says in Dracula, "[the vampire] is known everywhere that men have been".
The modern vampire stereotype, on the other hand, originated in the 19th century. It was influenced by such works as John Polidori's The Vampyre, James Malcolm Rymer's Varney the Vampire, J. Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla, and Bram Stoker's Dracula, which were based upon Eastern European myths and legends. The vampire has transformed from an obscure folkloric figure to an aristocratic fiend who pretends to be human as he preys among high society. The vampire has since become a dominant figure in the horror genre. This steady and persistent increase in popularity has been ascribed to a combination of two factors: the representation of sexuality and the perennial dread of mortality.
The important thing to remember about vampires is that we cannot change lore into law, especially when lore changes from age to age and culture to culture. When Van Helsing says, in Dracula, that "All we have to go upon are traditions and superstitions," he is quite right. As far as I'm concerned, there is only one trait that makes vampires truly vampires: they must take something, usually blood, from something else, usually another person, in order to sustain their own existence.
That's the only thing that remains constant.

sigh vampire literally means blood drinker, people started this in looking for eternal youth an some just for religion though the reasons are different the fact remains some people crave blood hence the vampire . vampires are not extremely strong they do not turn into bats an vampires of this day an age usually ask some one to give them blood they dont just kill some one or hurt them

I have read many Vamipire stories from Camilla, Draclua, and even Ann Rice Noviles. each one needs blood to live, cant step in to daylight of they will be burned/ turned in to ash. the cross does repel them because they have been damned by god for returning to life. they have a strong sence of smell and cant handle over powering smells like Lavender, Garlic and Lillys. I think have a head cut off or something throught a heart{heart= blood lift} will kill anything. Draclua was able to turn in to fog and a large Bat but only fro a short amount of time. a for wolfs..... I have no clue i know that Dracula only had control over wolves when there were guest in side his castle. 2
