Ok, so not all witch's choose to go by another name when practicing the craft, as many things in Wicca it's entirely optional.
However, the vast majority of witch's that I have come upon have a name of their choosing that they go by during gatherings and group rituals (Some even go by their witch name on a 24/7 basis, and some will legally change their name!).
Choosing a name can prove to be either extremely difficult, or easy peasy.
The Witch's name usually consists of 1 to 3 words chosen by the witch to go together in representation of herself.
Having difficulties putting the right words together? Don't fret. Make a list of words that you find yourself pulled to (animals you favor, elements, plantlife, mythological creatures, heritage elements such as Navajo, Celtic, Norse, etc.) and play around with them!
There's no hour glass, so take your time. I took two whole years before I made the final decision (Or rather, spirit did...) for my witch name.
If you've created one, share it! And if you prefer, we'll refer to you by it within the forum.

I think some people do the numerology thing. Finding a name that matches up with either their birth date or birth name, but also has some special magickal significance. I don't actually have one, still, so I dunno *shrug*.

I have a known name and an "unknown" name (one only known to the "Otherworld"). My known name is "Lady SongWolf".

i have found myself sitting with ShadowMoon. but when u think for a name, you should see what feels right, and isnt overly used, you have no idea how many ravens i've come across -facepalm-

My wiccan name is Celeste. only use it with other wiccans or ppl with strong energy ability. It can to me many years ago. but i did not start calling my self that until this girl i was doing an energy meditation with told me that she seen that name for me. since then that has been my name.

I go by Greyhaven. The biggest reason is because I am a good listener, I don't tell people what they need to do. Get it? I'm kind of a Haven of the Grey area's. One of my biggest philosophies is that a person can't do what is needed until they are ready to. So when Simple Sally comes to me crying about her relationship with Abusive Bob and everybody is saying "you have to leave" "you can't stay there""you need to get help" I am the one who will not harp on Simple Sally making things worse. I am the one who is going to take a look at what is is able to do at this point, and encourage that. I am the one who is going to try to help her get to a point where she can take action instead of just telling her she has to. So Greyhaven.

~☆:i have a few names:☆~my born name is nicole marie shaffer, only family members or friends from my child hood still call me that. nikka starr is my everyday name. no middle name. nikka was just a name i made up[but after i found out it's actually a real name.] and starr was because i liked stars and i added the extra r because of ringo starr. yeah i know, not very original but it works. my witch name is pretty much the same. nyx starr. no middle name again. nyx means night, but it also a name of this goddess of light. i thought it was very yin and yang that a goddess of light had a name that means night. it describes me, i'm a mixture of different things that are opposite. simple and easy. :3

I never chose a craft name. What I did instead was to rework it's supposed meaning. I was named after my mom, but her name was picked because it rhymed with my aunt's (fraternal twins). That gave me some leeway to chose my own definition. Surprisingly, there were similar names that fit better with how I felt. Of course, I chose a different way of looking at the original meaning as well, through a series of associations.

so... i thing i have chosen my name but id like to see what u all think of it first biggrin
Autumn Leaves
i thought of my fav season and what was my fav thing about it, but its not just that! its the symbolizmthat lays behind the words! autumn is cool (cool headed)but it could be calm but anything could happen a storm ect(= for me emotional)
leaves- the leaves in autumn are all different colours (= different sides of personality) some soft some crisp
you get the idea?? thereis just so much symbolizm in that name for me XDD

I haven't found my name yet, but i know it come to me one day. my friend has her name though - " Eyes Sown Shut ". I still don't know her reason to this name, but i believe that if she connects with these words, then she should use them. blessed be )O(
