Some of you may have already partaken in this, but I just stumbled upon it. What you do is simply type in a phrase, and see how long it takes the translation to find an equilibrium. It's like playing telephone, only with an online translation engine.
For example:
The phrase "I am very tired" is easily translated:
-into Japanese
私は非常に疲れている
-back into English
I'm very tired
-back into Japanese
私は非常に疲れている
-back into English
I'm very tired
Now, something a bit more complicated; let's say "I just had the best Spaghetti dinner ever!"
I just had the best Spaghetti dinner ever!
-into Japanese
私はこれまで最高のスパゲッティ夕食を食べた!
-back into English
I ate a spaghetti dinner the best ever!
-back into Japanese
私が今までスパゲティディナー最高の食べたのか!
-back into English
You ate the best I have ever spaghetti dinner!
-back into Japanese
あなたが私が今までスパゲティ夕食を最高の食べたのか!
-back into English
You ate the best dinner I have ever spaghetti you!
-back into Japanese
あなたが今までにスパゲッティが最高の夕食を食べたのか!
-back into English
You ate a spaghetti dinner is the best you ever!
-back into Japanese
あなたがスパゲッティ夕食を食べたがこれまでで最高です!
-back into English
The best ever spaghetti you ate for dinner!
-back into Japanese
夕食を食べ史上最高のスパゲティ!
-back into English
Spaghetti dinner ever!
-back into Japanese
スパゲッティディナーまで!
-back into English
Spaghetti dinner!
-back into Japanese
スパゲッティディナー!
-back into English
Spaghetti Dinner!
-back into Japanese
スパゲッティディナー!
-back into English
Spaghetti Dinner!
I dunno...maybe it's just me and the fact that I'm easily amused, but you see how far off some of these translations can get!
If you do any, post them here so I can have a good cheap laugh!
