✩ Players Gon' Play: Faylen's Info ✩ ✩ Name: Faylen Berndt ✩ Age: 11 ✩ Gender: Male
✩ Appearance: Fay is a rather plain boy. He's not bad-looking, just average. He'll probably never quite achieve "handsome" when he grows up, but rather stay more on the side of "cute." He has light brown hair, the color coffee has after it's had a few creams added to it. It's somewhat short, the tips barely touching his shoulders, often worn down. A light smattering of freckles dusts the bridge of his nose and fans out over his cheekbones, though they aren't terribly noticeable. Until he blushes, anyways, upon which they tend to pop out (much to his chagrin!). He's got light, honey-brown eyes, usually wide with some form of anxiety, fear, or understanding.
Faylen's not very physically imposing either and even with a due growth-spurt, he'll likely always be on that shorter side of average height. He's got an average build- he's not too skinny, but he's not muscularly stacked at any rate. Perhaps as he grows up, he may be lucky enough to acquire broader shoulders and stronger hands. For now, he's in that awkward growing-boy stage, round and soft-edged without being necessarily fat or pudgy.
The clothes he was wearing when he left home (and the only set he had sense to bring with him in his panicked flight) consisted of a pair of jeans, his red high-top sneakers and a pastel-pink button-up shirt. It's likely he selected the shirt because his mother hated it, so wearing it was a childish sort of defiance. Fay also wears a small, silver cross on a chain- even despite the presence of so many other gods and religions. It was given to him by his older sister and is more a comfort thing than a religious thing. He often fidgets with it or rubs it when nervous or scared.
Godly Influences: At this first stage, Faylen starts the Game with only the beginnings of supernatural influences. One of the more noticeable traits is the patch of prismatic scales on face. Colorwise, it's less of a case of 'this scale is red, the next is orange and the next is yellow and put together they're a rainbow' and more a case of shimmering, white-iridescence- like mother-of-pearl or an opal. The other trait seen in this beginning stage is about an inch of whitening near the tips of his hair.
✩ Personality: In a few words: Skittish, reluctant, anxious, inherently shy. Faylen is not the world's most outgoing boy- in fact, when he starts the game, he's a bit of a shrinking violet. He frequently fidgets with his hands when nervous, chewing at his cuticles and nails or scratching at the backs of his hands. He also tends to joke when anxious, a nervous habit to try and help take his mind off matters.
As far as socialization goes, Fay tends to gravitate towards males (thanks to his heavy-handed mother, females tend to make him uneasy). That's not to say he doesn't ever socialize with females- if he does, however, he tends to hang more with peers or a younger age set. It's the older women that really intimidate him. When he does find someone he decides he likes or trusts, he can be a fairly warm and cheerful individual, the fearful veneer melting away into puppy-dog like affection. Incidentally, he is doggedly loyal to his friends or whomever else he deems worthy- almost to a fault, at times.
Fay is also a rather intelligent boy. Since he was never physically strong, he's made up for it by being mentally strong. Some of his likes include music and blackberries with cream. Some dislikes include snakes (he'll...really have to get over that one, huh?) and spiders- or better yet, many-legged bugs in general. Some quirks of his are that he is terribly particular about organization of his personal objects and daily tasks. The boy manages his day by lists and frequently feels confused or lost without them. Beyond that, he believes everything has a place and it ought to be there or he tends to get all twitchy. This had lead to some of the meaner children in his classes messing up or otherwise rearranging his desk to watch him squirm...
✩ History: Faylen never really came from the most stable of homes, hence why fleeing for the Game was appealing to him. He was born in Middling and for the first part of his life, lived in a German-culture neighborhood with his mother, father, and two older sisters. He learned to speak German first, as it was more commonly used in the household and around the neighborhood. He did learn English as well, considering it was necessary for school and the likes, though he was- and still is- able to express himself more fully in German.
However, Fay's father was not the nicest of men. He was, in fact, quite mean and at times downright cruel to his mother. One day, Cassandra (his mother) had decided she and the children had endured enough. She packed up while the man was at work (and with the aid of the money she'd been saving up and stashing over the years), took her children and booked it. Why Fay's father never followed or tried to find them is unknown- it's not like they left the city, after all...
Of course, even away from their father's shadow, things continued to unravel for the family. Cassandra was not the happiest of people at this point and turning more heavily to the bottle didn't quite alleviate this issue. Finding a job and keeping it became a difficult task and during the lower points, the family moved about the city quite frequently when the rent was up at the place they were staying. They bounced around from Middling to Downers to Middling again. More than once Fay was handed a garbage bag and told he could only bring what he could carry in the bag. This has lead him to be both incredibly protective of his more treasured possessions and yet able to toss other items away without a second thought.
After a few years of chaos, the family finally settled in the area of Border East. His mother was still drinking, but this time she managed to cling to a job long enough to keep them rooted in one place. Fay worked hard to do well in school and around the house, largely because like his father, his mother could be very unkind at times. Being the only male in the house (and looking quite a bit like his father, as luck would have it) made him a target for Cassandra's displaced anger towards her ex-husband, so it was in Fay's best interests to keep her happy or otherwise impressed with him- her punishments were less severe in such cases. Overachieving didn't always work, but it worked more than doing nothing. His oldest sister moved out as soon as she was able. His middle sister remained with him in the household, loathe to leave her little brother to the sole mercy of her temperamental mother.
Things changed for the boy (for better or for worse) when Ayida-Weddo visited the boy in a dream. She explained that she had chosen him for an important task, offered him an escape from his life- an escape into a game of sorts. While the notion of an escape appealed to the boy, he had to question the goddess. He asked why she would choose a boy like him, one who was clearly so different, when there were potentially others more strong and similar to her.
She responded "Strength is derived by binding together that which is different, child. Plus, on the outside, all children of men are different, so it is by the inside which we judge. It is the inside which is true. And inside of you...there is a greatness aching to be set free and nurtured. I can foster that greatness, child, if you will let me".
When the boy woke up the next morning and prepared himself for daily chores and weekend errands, he noticed, upon looking in the bathroom mirror, that his face was different. He had scales. Brilliantly colored scales. He tried to scrub them off and scratch them off for quite a stretch of time but only succeeded in making his face raw and sore. Instead of seeing this as a gift from a goddess and confirmation that his dream last night was real, he panicked, worrying about how his mother would react to this. The boy had a feeling she would not react favorably to such "foolishness". In a moment of panic, Fay packed up a small bag of belongings and bolted right from his house into the Game. After all, when it came to a choice of running headlong into some Game with the chance for glory, excitement and freedom (ah, the romanticism of adventure little boys have) or getting thumped again with a wooden spoon for 'foolishness'...well, the choice isn't too hard to make.

✩ I've got the power!: Godly Powers ✩
[This post is to list the powers that Faylen has or is capable of learning. Grayed-out entries are powers the boy has not yet discovered or learned, but has the potential to learn. Black entries are powers that have been learned already.
Powers subject to change based on how encounters play out and further thinking on the matter. Right now, I just want to get some sort of working reference up x3]✩ Stage One: Newbie ✩
✩ Benevolent Aura: (Passive) Ayida-Weddo is known as a benevolent goddess and one who grants her followers with happiness. Faylen, being an agent of the Goddess, projects a sort of aura of contentedness around him, even if he himself is not happy. When around others, they may feel as though they are more content or at least a little less angry. This is a passive ability that flares when Faylen is trying to please someone and can be resisted by opponents if they are aware of it and such.
✩ Snake Sense I: (Passive) The beginning of Snake Senses. In this stage, the only real 'sense' that shows is a more acute awarenes of vibrations (as long as Faylen is in contact with the ground) and slightly increased grip-strength.
✩ Gut Feeling: (Passive) Ever get that weird feeling that you should take a different road home, or drive a little slower or choose a certain answer on a quiz? It's sort of like that. Ayida-Weddo is a goddess of knowledge and so she has imparted her foresight and wisdom unto her godling. I'm not talking full-out premonitions- but just 'feelings' that he should duck or walk. They aren't very specific (just 'weird feelings' about people or a slight urge/niggling to do this or that) and Faylen doesn't always follow/notice them at this stage.
✩ Flash: This move works by generating a bright flash of light. Used as a distraction or to potentially blind (temporarily- think of like a camera flash of something) enemies. Can also be used as transient lumination.
✩ Serpent Affinity: The ability to communicate with serpents shows in this stage. Conversations are out at this point, but ability to gauge 'moods' any snakes may be in and a slight influence over their actions is seen.✩ Stage Two: Prophet ✩✩ Push: Faylen uses the winds and directs them at an opponent to ideally push them away. Also useful for kicking up dust and leaves as a distraction. At this stage, the move is fairly weak and works best when the opponent is not expecting it. Not useful in area where there is no airflow as the move acts off the wind.
✩ Ecdysis: The ability to help recover from superficial wounds by shedding damaged skin. Note that this does NOT work on lacerations, bruises, or otherwise deep wounds- only surface afflictions. For example, it's effective on burns, rashes and small scrapes. It is also not immediate- like, he couldn't use it directly after injury, though it does cut recovery time down some
✩ Snakes Senses II: A more acute sensitivity to heat is added to the menegerie of Snake Senses, as well as the ability to 'taste' the air.
✩ Purification: The ability to take impure water and filter it, making it more useful or otherwise drinkable.✩ Stage Three: Cultist ✩✩ Serpent Affinity II: The ability to call a guardian serpent.
✩ Detox: An extension of purification; the ability to filter toxins from the blood (which is mostly water/fluids anyways).
??? (Further Potential Unknown)

✩ THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY ✩ Family:
Mother (Cassandra Berndt): ...can we talk about something else...?
Sister (Elisabeth "Elissa" Berndt): Oh, sister's always so nice to me. She's a whole five years older than me, but we get along great. I...really miss her, though.
Friends:
Pavel: Back when I lived at my first home, Pavel live two doors down and across the hall. We used to play together but then one day, Mother said we couldn't hang out anymore. She said he was a 'bad influence' or something. I miss him, he was a good friend. Perhaps now that I am free, I should go visit him...
Quinn: He's...really bright colored. I thought he came from the Scene but it turns out he's a player too. He's nice, though- bought me food and kept me company on my first day. He said to call him if I ever needed help.
Writ: I met Mr. Writ at a party. He didn't seem to like Mr. Quinn too much (I think I am missing something?) but he still seemed like an okay guy. I met him again a few days later, though his brilliant plan to sneak us past the Blacksuits almost got us in big trouble. He's still a nice guy, though. Kind of like a big brother...
Mercury: Oh, I like Mr. Mercury! He chased away some bullies that were beating me up. He told me things about the game and was pretty nice. He isn't much taller than me either, which is okay- it was nice not to have to crane my neck up to talk to someone. He can run really fast and he carries a cool-looking walking stick.
Vale: I met Mr. Vale at the same party I met Mr. Writ. He seemed nice enough AND he had an accent like me! I didn't know much about him, though, since he left really quick after Mr. Quinn showed up. I met him again...on accident... when I was staying at Mr. Quinn's house. He's a pretty nice guy and makes a mean batch of warmed milk.
Middle Ground:
Tepin: One of the first girl players I met. She likes to hang out with Mr. Vale a lot. I don't know much about her either, but she seemed nice enough.
Sarah: Another girl player, though she's younger than Miss Tepin. I think she's younger than me too, but she looks different than other girls that young. Hm, how strange...
Foes:
None yet!
