Camlan sighed. This was his third day trying the fourth lesson and he still had yet to make it back to his room within the time limit. Downtrodden, he sat under his favorite tree in the Courtyard and tried to figure out what was going wrong. He could "see" and "Feel" the impressions left behind from the other students. The Amaran was even getting adept at recognizing his Force signature when mixed with the others. But there was something...had to be with his Forces senses, that just wasn't lining up.
Trying to figure out the problem, Camlan had the small silver ball given to them during an earlier lesson. This was one thing he was very comfortable doing. Almost casually, he made the ball move around in front of him like it was dancing or being tugged by an invisible string. He had almost been tempted to gather his blocks as well but he did have to concentrate some on the problem at had...
Drat.
Caught up in his own thoughts and actions, he failed to notice another person approaching.

Azami wandered into the courtyard. The miraluka was tired from self-training. She had spent the last several hours blinding herself to the force, and trying to find her way around the temples by her physical senses alone. She knew that she couldn't allow herself to be dependent on just one sense - even if it WAS Force-sense, but it was especially irritating that she was beginning to understand why so many treated her as a cripple. For one who couldn't use the Force, lack of sight was very hampering indeed.
Needless to say, right now she desperately wanted to sit somewhere and Force-sense. To relax and have a change of pace and take comfort in KNOWING where things were.
And...the moment Azami entered the courtyard...A chance for a change of place presented itself! She could sense the frustrated presence of a Youngling having trouble. Unable to keep a small smile off her face - admittedly in part at the beautiful force patterns he was creating around a ball - she walked over and sat next to him.
"Hello."

Camlan looked up, startled by the newcomer. Concentration lost, the silver ball fell to the ground with a loud thud. His golden eyes narrowed as he realized he allowed himself to lose focus.
But then he saw who was next to him, a Knight. Unsure of what to do or how to act, the vulpine boy tried to keep calm. Emotions were not good. Emotions were a distraction. Taking a breath, he answered. "Hello."
It was then that he realized she had a blindfold on... Or maybe it was just a scarf? Either way, Camlan knew that she wouldn't be able to see him. Which meant, she had other ways of getting around. Though he wasn't as forthcoming as some of the other Younglings, his mind was quick and had no problems connecting the dots. Unsure of how to ask her what was wrong, Camlan focused on his ball again.
"Um... My name is Camlan. I haven't seen you before."

"That's not surprising. I've been doing a lot of personal training lately."
Tired as she was, Azami forgot to turn her head when talking. Again.
"What was that you were doing with the ball? That was something more than ordinary object-moving...and it created some beautiful Force patterns."
'Seeing' as she did with the Force, Azami had often contemplated the possibility of art formed with the flow of the Force, but had yet to find a method of actually doing so. She wasn't really the artistic type, it was more a reaction to the way people spoke of paintings and drawings that she couldn't really perceive. This, however, held promise.

"Force pattens? Really? I wasn't paying attention. I was...um...stuck. On a lesson. And when I am stuck, I play with my blocks or whatever is small and I can move."
Camlan held out his hand and watched the ball float and drop into his paw. Rolling it around, he looked up at the stranger girl. His nose caught the exotic scent around her, like she had seen many things. Her scent was pleasant to him. Closing his eyes, he tried to use his smell of her and see the Force. Maybe if he practiced without the time limit part, he would get better.
There were swirls around her; Camlan focused and tried to bring in her aura like the other boy had told him. But it was all fuzzy and murky. Opening his eyes, he sighed again. "It's not going very well. My lesson. Are you stuck on something too?"
Pushing the ball up a little, Camlan began to make it bob around the older girl's head.

"No, just practicing. One of the things a Knight is supposed to do is round out their weak points. What are you having trouble with? Perhaps I can help."
Azami hoped that the Youngling wouldn't ask what those weak points were. It was embarrassing, to her mind, that she'd become so dependent on the Force.

"I've actually completed the lesson three times. It's just... I want to get it right. Know I can do it. It seems like everyone can do everything better than me." Camlan muttered his part, trying not to sound bitter.
He was stepping out from his own shadow. It was just taking time. And with his determination to get understand and get his lessons done right, the young boy was his own worst taskmaster. "It's will sound stupid. But I have to get from my class to my room wearing a blindfold like yours."
Camlan blinked as a thought hit him. A rather wonderful and spectacular idea. "You were a blindfold. Um... How do you get around? I can show you how to play with the sphere if maybe..."
He stumbled at this part. She was older than he was... She was a Knight. She probably had lots of important stuff to do. "You are probably busy or something though..."
And just like that, his confidence started to fade.

"No, I'm not busy." Azami smiled. It would seem Camlan had never heard of how Miraluka perceived the world. "And as it happens, that lesson is one I am well suited to help you with. Tell me, how much do you know about Miraluka?" Maybe if Azami had him thinking along the lines of sensing the world, rather than a lesson, it would be easier.
Besides, although she'd never admit it even to herself, Azami had been longing for simple companionship. She was tired of having to be so adult all the time - which was strange considering how long she'd been living on her own back on Coruscant. But there was a difference between taking care of yourself, and needing to pay attention to people's opinions, or be relatively respectful, or any of a number of other things that were expected as a Knight.

"I'm not sure. Maybe they came onto my parents ship? They are traders and trade with everyone. But I wasn't allowed up from the rooms too often." Camlan scrunched up his face and tried to remember if there was anyone like the girl he had seen before.
"Is that what you are? Mira-Miraluka?" Camlan hoped he pronounced it right. He could say a few things pretty well. He had to in order not to offend his parents' trading partners. "I am Amaran. Is that the same thing?"

"Miraluka is what I am, yes, just as you are Amaran. We are very similar to humans in most ways, except...we have no eyes. We sense the world around us through the Force."
Azami hesitated and touched her scarf. For some reason this was bringing up memories. Not pleasant ones either. Like her foster parents, and their insistance on her binding her eye sockets as a child, no matter how it itched, so that she could fit in better. She blanked her face and shoved the memories back.
"Most Miraluka where something like this, because our vestigial eye sockets bother and occasionally frighten sighted beings. For you, it provides a different purpose - it should bring you closer, in theory, to how we experience the world. Am I correct in guessing you were trying to 'see' with the Force?"

Nodding slowly, Camlan started to reach up with childish curiosity and then stopped. That would be rude and somehow he sensed that she didn't like to talk about it. Yet, a sense of wanting to know kept him asking questions. He didn't realize quite yet that Azami couldn't see his actions.
"We put the blindfold on and have to go from the classroom through the courtyard to our dorms. I try not to cheat too much." Camlan tapped his nose and grinned a little. "Amarans have sensitive noses and ears. If I think really, really hard... I can sense what I smell."
This he was proud of because he was sure none of the others had figured out that step yet. But then he drooped again and held out a hand in front of her to catch his ball. "But I don't know why I can't make it back in time."
Dropping the ball in her lap, Camlan looked up into her face. "You don't have to see the ball to make it move, do you?"

"I can sense where it is, same as I can sense your movements. And while the sensing what you smell is very interesting...and who knows? Maybe you'll develop a new technique from it...You probably don't want to connect any of your physical senses to Force-sensing. If for some reason that physical sense were rendered useless, and your Force-sensing were dependent on it, you would likely lose that as well."
Azami thought for a moment.
"Have you ever tried to sense the world around you, just like when you're smelling for it, with your nose plugged?"

Camlan looked, well, shocked and confused. Smell without smelling? That was like... And then it dawned on him... Seeing without seeing. "Noo... Is that what you do?"
He was still young and these concepts still very new. He had always had his sense of smell, had always taken it for granted he supposed. "But how would I do something like that?"

"Sort of. I suppose I misinterpreted what you said. Alright. That just means one more step in the process."
Azami lifted the ball in one hand.
"You are familiar with this ball, right? Playing with it like you do is a familiar pastime, something you do often? Something you know how to do very well?"

"Not as familiar with it as my blocks." The Amaran youth was trying really hard now to connect the dots and see the picture. How did they go from smelling to his ball. "I play with it at least once a day."
He reached a fuzzy paw out and touched it. "I just play when I am bored or thinking. Um... Just like when I really want to find something, I smell for it. How do you play with things? Or find something?"
Camlan let out a whoosh of air from his small frame. "Is that how you use the Force?"
