Characters like people are not static and they change...I want that.

Everyone will start off with ten points to put in whatever of these categories they want ((Note only the three Rulers will start out with 20 as to make them worthy of being a ruler. After all it would be sad if the ruler was weaker then his weakest soldier.)):
War:
Politics:
Strategy:
Leadership:
Charisma:
Horse Riding:

The max for any stat is ten and it goes point by point. In the profile will be a spot where you type in how many points you have. You may place the points wherever you want. What the points do is this. If someone has a two in War compared to someone with an eight...the eight has distinct advantages. I do not want auto-hits but I don't want duels that go on forever because both RPers refuse to get hit. If anyone has questions on this ask it here.

To gain points there are a few ways to do so.
1. Fight a battle and win - 2 points for a win. ((Note both sides must know of battle for this to count.))
2. Win a duel in a battle - 2 points for a win.
3. Complete a diplomacy mission - 1 point for raising kingdom bonds and 2 for an alliance.
4. Killing an officer - 1 point...((I really don't want people constantly trying to kill each other for points.))
5. Training at an academy - 1 point per each 5,000 gold spent.

Also I am implementing Unit size and unit types.
For instance your rank determines your unit size with a max of 20,000 soldiers. If you are a Ruler or First Rank then you have 20,000. 2nd Ranks get 17,000 troops in a unit max. 3rd Rank will get 14,000. 4th rank 10,000 and 5th Rank 5,000. All free officers start with a unit size of 5,000.

For unit type there are these categories:
Regular: Swords and Bows
Special: Spears, Pikes, Horses, Elephants, and Beast Masters
Weapons: Catapults, Towers, Rams, Juggernauts, Arbalests, War Chariots

An officer can only have three total...so as an example one officer may have: Catapults, Spears and Bows as their three.

Swords and Bows are strong against none and are not actually weak to any...but they have no advantages.
Spears beat Horses, Horses beat Pikes, and Pikes beat Spears. Elephants and Beast Masters cancel each other out.

Arabalests go with a bow unit and allow for a three times fire rate and a much higher reload rate.
Juggernauts are large weapons that spew fire out and are like an old version of a tank.

No officer can start out with having armaments at all.

If there are any questions feel free to ask them here.

Well it is unfortunately down currently until we get the gold system set up which is soon to be on the way. Once that is up then you will pay gold to get a point in the certain skill you wanted. For example let us say you want a point of war. In your post you would pay the gold cost, say what stat and then somewhere in the post type up that you gained a point like saying, "Hm, I feel stronger now..." Or something like that. From there you would go to your profile and add a point onto your total...subtract the gold used and then add a point onto the stat you leveled. The mods will also be checking to make sure that there is nothing but honesty involved.

More of a suggestion than a question.

So I was reading it and saw the part about god-modding. Now fighting without god-modding is hard, especially for me, cause I don't want to over power the person but I don't want to be all like 'man... that was weak.'

So in another role play group I'm in, during fights we'll do a dice roll for attacks. Simple six sided dice. Which ever dice roll was the highest wins the attack, of course there is a chance for blocking and we us HP sometimes as well.

We are thinking about ways around that as well, since we have a stat system. Part of me is thinking that is starting to become like an MMORPG. Which it technically is but that is besides the point. Yes it can be really hard which is what the stats are for and we are going to be taking your suggestion in consideration since it is a very valuable one!

If I may say, I do not like the idea of the dice. In a decent, literate, roleplay with skilled and literate roleplayers, there shouldn't be a god-modding problem. Turning it into a Dice-based battle more or less takes away from the ability to just roleplay. I always allow my characters, regardless of who they are or what they can do, in any roleplay, to take damage. I don't allow the first hit to make an impact, often times I'll make strikes glance or only cause minimal damage. I'd say, depending on what happens to the character, based on their stats and what has happened to them recently, should influence the outcome of a fight/duel.

E.I. - John has been fighting for a total of two hours, slaughtering countless warriors with ease with his mighty warhammer of justice, then comes an opponant, an enemy that is his equal (Both with 5 War, let's say). Joe, his opponant, has not been fighting at all, thus, his energy level is significantly higher, which gives him more agility and can endure a good deal more exhaustion before defeated.

Also, things like weapon, such as the warhammer compared to a single dagger, should absorbed different levels of energy, stamina, yet can easily cause more or less damage with a successful blow.

I think a good roleplayer should consider these on their own, and not have to rely on a 'dice system'. I just think it hinders good roleplaying.

I have a question. My character is, for the most part, a pacifist, attempting to avoid violent conflict unless forced into action by personal threat or extreme injustice to another. If trying to talk his way out of a fight is it my charisma versus their charisma or my charisma versus another stat?

Sorry for the double post, but one more question that I forgot. In exchanges and agreements with political officials is politics a must or can a character get by on pure likeability. (Eg. Charisma.) Being born in a stone age society modern politics is a mystery to this char but he's a very likeable guy. Not sure if that will carry him at all in political situations but I assume it would help.

Hmmm...I'm going to leave a final decision up to SND, but here are my two cents.

In trying to talk one's way out of a fight, it's a matter of charisma. However, there would certainly be other factors involved as well, such as first impressions and personality conflicts. Two characters who are extremely incompatible may never find common ground, even if one of those characters maxed out on the charisma stat.

If trying a little slight of word, however, that might be a different scenario.

Take the drunk character, for example. Is that character reasoning at full capacity? Maybe. Maybe not. That might make him quicker to anger, but may well boost charismatic effects as well. Gullibility. Like beer goggles. (Sorry. biggrin )

Now, about your 'stone age' character -- somehow, I doubt he's lived for millenia without picking up a thing or two along the way, if for no other reason than it'd be necessary for survival somewhere along the way. I think you know that. Look it up in your cultural anth book if you think otherwise.... biggrin

That said, I'd say that a scenario with a political official or requiring some level of state exchange would require both charisma and politics. Both stats would factor in separately, and again together. The exact outcome would depend on the scenario. However, I certainly believe both stats to be vital to such an exchange. Heck...without charisma, it's certainly difficult to be in any form of politics, is it not?

So, is this any help? confused

Well, surviving for millenia is one thing but he wanders the world, trying to make life better for the people he encounters and doesn't really dabble in the political arena. That's not to say that he hasn't had a glass of wine with a few high ranking officials but he would mostly rely on strength of personality alone in that scenario, leaving the politics to the politicians. I am assuming that the politics stat concerns itself more with knowledge of law, political decorum, etc., not just making a ruler like you and, never having been to china the political circus of honor and unwritten rules of behavior that dominates the region is a mystery to him, hence the 0 in politics. He might be used to smoking pipe ina tent with a high ranking chieftain or drinking in the mead hall of a european king but China is a whole different animal. It helps alot actually. Thanks. smile Not very used to rping with stats. I am grateful for the help.

::flicks his forehead, simply because she can::

I simply find it hard to believe that he'd never learned and turned a single political tactic against an official ever in his long life. Still seems a major stretch to me. ^.^<

I personally see the politics stat including an array of networking and interpersonal communication/public speaking skills as well. It's kinda building off a conversation I had with SND when I was creating an assassin. But we'll leave that alone, since it's moot now. I didn't go the way of Delta.

I think Sirius'll pick things up here and there. It'll be interesting to see what you do. I see lurking in my future. ^.~

Phruit's statement about Sirius picking up a thing or two while in the three kingdoms has gotten me thinking. Where does relevence play in concerning stat point placement. I see the gaining of experience points can come from many things, winning a fight, gaining political advantage in a foriegn kingdom, etc. Now, from winning a battle, an individual may become more proficient in war, or perhaps strategy du to the possible guile necessary to win. In a political situation, lessons about leadership, strategy, and politics may be learned. But it seems strange that a person could learn to swing a sword or ride a horse better by talking a kingdom into an alliance or learn better how to handle himself in the political arena by beating an officer bloody. Are the points gained through these endeavors able to be placed anywhere or do the stat upgrades have to be relevent to the nature of the experience gained?
