Because Reggie asked, here is a thread on why the hell Remus knew that Sirius was dead when he went through the veil. My theory is that Remus was an Unspeakable during the first war so he knew what the veil may or may not be. It also gives a possible explanation for why Sirius thought Remus was the spy. Any thoughts?

Why Sirius would think Remus was a spy has always bothered me. What on earth could possibly give him reason? He and Remus were close friends, and it seems to me that was odd. If, however, Remus were an unspeakable and therefor couldn't tell Sirius what he was doing, Sirius- the ever open and ever trusting- would get suspicious.
I love this theory *nod*.

I was rerereading OotP and I happened across Arthur telling Harry about Unspeakables and how what they do is very very secretive and the like and I started thinking about that. When I got to the end, I started questioning why Remus wouldn't let Harry near the veil. I mean, it was drapery, right? At least that was how I viewed it for a total of five seconds until Remus was kind enought to nearly say that Sirius was dead. I reverted to sobbing like a child again. I can't remember for the life of me what put this connection into my head, but it is a sound theory.
I mean, the reason he's not longer an Unspeakable could very well be his 'furry little problem' which was discovered. I rather imagined they would have obliviated him except he may have known too much information and they didn't want to cause irreparable harm to a werewolf (might send him over the edge) so they just kept him quiet. I mean, why else would he have gotten his position at Hogwarts. The ministry probably has a Werewolf Registration office and Remus has been on file since before Hogwarts because Dumbledore fought for him to be allowed into school.
Wow...such interesting crap coming out of my head today.

I remember not realizing that Sirius was dead until Remus almost said it as well. I was right with Harry the whole time. "Why isn't Sirius getting up? What's taking so long?" When Remus said that I threw my book, grabbed my Moony and Padfoot stuffed animals, and hugged them until I decided I wanted to read some more.
Maybe they didn't want to oblivate him because he knew things that were irreplacable. They couldn't afford to have a werewolf work for them, but they also couldn't afford not to have the knowledge he gained.

Possible, very very possible. I would love to write a fanfiction about this...I wanna ask Jo what she thinks of this theory. Damn it, I've got to get working on my letter to her than asking her about the Marauder Map and how it really works and about Remus/Sirius and now about Remus being an Unspeakable because I'm realizing the validity of this arguement. Yeahs for me! I'm gonna start a thread in the HP subforum.

I was reading a piece of fanfiction where Remus had worked with the veil. In it, the veil had been used to "execute" known Death Eaters who didn't actually murder/use Unspeakables, but did things equally bad, such as what Peter did to Lily and James. Remus had worked on the veil and published some paper on a theory of what it actually did. The paper got him fired. Wish I remember what fanfiction that was...

It could be entirely possible since Sirius wasn't coming out, and they're in the Department of Mysteries, he might have picked up that the veil wasn't simply drapery. Or he could have been an Unspeakable. About losing the job, in OotP Sirius said that Umbridge helped make a piece of legislature two years ago that made it near impossible for Remus to get a job. mmm....That's 1993, when Remus taught at Hogwarts. Could one of the sections in the new law about what jobs that werewolves were allowed in the Ministry?
Semi-unlikely since the Ministry wouldn't promote a "Muggle-lover" (Arthur Weasley) to anything more than a dirt position. Fudge thought that Arthur didn't have proper Wizarding pride, and Hermione was telling Lupin HBP that it all stems from the horrid idea that they're superior to everything. So what would a Muggle-related office be? But more importantly why would they hire a werewolf when a "Muggle-lover" can't get higher up than a dirt position?

Unspeakables aren't exactly high up in the ministry, they're like the guys out in Area 51...do you really think that a bunch of space nuts in the middle of the desert for years at a time are going to be the purest of blood. I doubt the Department of Mysteries would have cared. They would have thought it interesting. Oh look, he can work for us and we can learn more about werewolves or something. *shrugs*

Nice theory guys. It would explain why Remus had actually survived before his DADA job. I mean, he says that i is hard to get a job when you are a werewolf and being an Unpeakable could be a reason why he has atleast some money and was allowed to work their, as Remus said, they learn more about werewolves.
Remus isn't someone who I would of thought to be an unspeakable....

I wrote on this "What jobs will they have after the books" thread in the HP sub-forum that the job I wanted Lupin to get was at the Ministry, helping to assimilate werewolves safely into society. I said I wanted him to be able to find as many werewolves as possible and arrange a steady supply of wolfsbane, support, help in getting jobs, etc. Hes so calm and organised, and so nice, that I can see him sticking to it even with the scared ones and those who don't want to be helped, and making a real change in the status of werewolves in the magical community. biggrin Not quite an Unspeakable, but if Harry wins then the wizarding community is either going to shun him or give him everything he wants, and he could request that Lupin get this job. Its possible. *Ducks as rotten fruit is thrown her way and people boo* Its POSSIBLE! Leave me alone! It could happen!

That is indeed a very interesting theory.
But it follow the Shoebox Project theory(The Shoebox project is a fanfic wich is almost better then the original, about MWPP).Wait, here is the quote: "If I do I will secure for you ringside seats." Remus busies himself with looking busy. "Perhaps your future lies in the fine art of divination."
"Now that," Sirius says, "is a flat-out ridiculous waste of time."
"You're only saying that," Remus replies vaguely, "because you only ever see drapery in your crystal ball."
"The professor says they're veils," Sirius mutters. "There's no need to bring that rubbish up again, now is there."
"Your future in bridal couture is not really the issue at hand," Remus agrees. "What should be the issue at hand is that your soul seems to smell like burnt puppy."
Teehee foreshadowing. AND Sirius would have thought that Peter was to idiotic to be a death eater, and therefore could have never told Voldy. So the only one remaining was Remus. HOWEVER. Your theory is also VERY interesting.
