After meeting the Sith youngling, Cara found herself in a rather common predicament: she had too many questions, and not enough answers. What made it so that she was allowed to be a Knight in the first place? What made her more qualified? It seemed to her that the only factor was age and a lightsaber, and in light of that assessment, was she really qualified to teach children, when she barely knew these things herself?

Too many questions, not enough answers.

There were only two people making the call on whether or not Cara was worthy for Knighthood, and while she felt more at ease with one, she knew she would more likely get a straight answer with the other, and it was for this reason that Cara stood just on the outskirts of a basic training lesson, her eyes on a certain short, balding man. She waited until he was done speaking to the children, then cautiously approached, her apprehension causing tangible ripples in the Force.

"Master Char Langui, may I speak to you for a moment?" She asked, doing her best not to fidget, especially not in front of the children. Sith Knights didn't fidget, and she was going to hold onto that one shred of proof that she deserved her title, however small and insignificant it might be. "I have a few questions, if you don't mind."

Master Lan-gui sent the last youngling running and looked up at the young knight. "Knight Ydell," he said, adjusting his goggles thoughtfully. "A certainly unexpected but not unwelcome surprise. I trust you are settling into temple life well?"

He stepped down off the podium and nodded thoughtfully. "Questions, hmmm?" he asked. He smiled. "Perhaps I have an answer. Tell me what's troubling you."

"Yes, sir, I've settled in rather well," Cara responded, trying not to sound formal but losing the battle. Why did talking to this man suddenly make her feel like she was twelve and addressing her father after having broken something?

She gave the Sith Master room to move from his podium, and once asked what her troubles were, she lost the war with her body and began to fidget, her hands adjusting her belt out of habit and the still-awkward weight of the lightsaber hilt at her side.

"You see, Master, I met one of the younglings a couple of days ago, a Miraluka named Ana. And, well, it didn't seem like I had much more control with the Force than she did." Actually, the girl had appeared more proficient, but Cara wasn't going to bring that up now.

"My point is, I'm a little confused about what it means to be a Knight here, since we don't have the years of training that the current younglings'll have by the time they're my age." Her face scrunched up into a pout as she looked out among the children. "I mean, what exactly do I have to offer that they won't with a year's worth of training?"

Langui nodded thoughtfully. "Maturity," he said. "Experience. How much formal training would you suppose I have?"

He lead her across the training room to where a bin rested against the back wall, Reaching in, he produced a small metal sphere out of it. "If it is control you seek, you may practice with this," he said, handing it to Cara. "While you must channel the force through your feelings, you must always maintain control of what you are doing. The Force is a scalpel, not a vibroblade."

"The Miraluka are a strange species. They see with the Force. Ana is an exceptional student, but perhaps if you meet other younglings you will discover that you are not quite as far behind as you think."

Cara thoughtfully looked at the metal ball as she palmed it in her two hands, listening to Langui's words or wisdom and taking mental notes. She concentrated, carefully making it rise a few inches, then let it drop back to her hands. It shouldn't have taken so much thought for so little a thing.

"But Master Langui, my connection to the Force is strongest when I don't hold back on my feelings. How do I put control to that?" She frowned -- her confrontation had only made for more questions.

"Ahhh," sighed the diminutive master cryptically. "Confused, you are, Knight Ydell," he chastised gently. "There is a difference between control and holding back."

He motioned briefly, and the ball in her hands rose into the air. It spun slowly around an axis.

"You can still put your full emotions into every action without losing control. It is the difference between ruling your emotions and being ruled by them. A true Sith is a lord, not a slave."

"And how do I do that?" Cara asked, her hands still outstretched for the ball whenever the Sith Master decided to drop it. She had been slightly relieved by his former words, but now she felt uncertain again, like she still wasn't qualified for the position. Maybe Master Langui would have the answer. And maybe, Cara thought reluctantly, she would have no choice but to practice and find things out on her own.

Master Langui got a peculiarly amused look on his face. The ball lowered into Cara's waiting hand. "Practice is always helpful," he said. "The younglings do this lesson. Can you levitate the ball?"

He held up one finger, about to make a point.

"Sometimes a scalpel is far more useful than a vibroblade."

Cara watched with some perplexity as the ball fell into her hand, and eyed it for a moment. It rose again, but the transition didn't seem nearly as smooth as when Master Langui had done it, and after a moment, it dropped unceremoniously back to its original resting place. All in all, the Master was right, but it was humbling for Cara to think that she would be doing the same lessons as a Knight that the younglings started out with.

"I'll be sure to practice, then," Cara responded with a bow of her head, clasping the ball with slightly feighned confidence. "Thank you for the advice, Master." And with that, she set off, ball in hand to reconnect herself to the Force.
