There were times that Althaia wished that she could just skip out on her chores, just once. This was one of those days - it was a beautiful, bright day. The sun shone brilliantly in the cloudless sky, and...
Well, it was hot. Really hot.
Walking along the sidewalk, the puppet let out a sigh as she carried two bags of flower seeds. Since it was the right season again, Althaia had decided to finally - after having spent her morning working in her garden - take the time to go out and buy some new seeds for her to add to the collection of flowers in the garden. Unfortunately, she hadn't really taken the heat into consideration.
"I feel like I'm going to melt," She murmured, the feeling of fatigue growing. She felt her head start to pound and, after transferring one of her bags to the other hand, rubbed at her temples. She closed her eyes for a moment - just a moment - but it was apparently long enough for her to collide into someone.
Startled, she stumbled backwards but managed to catch her balance at the last moment. Hastily, she bowed. "I-I'm sorry."

Trace probably should have been paying more attention to where he was going but... it was so wonderful out. He couldn't help but close his eyes and suck in the sun's energy. And certainly if anyone looked close enough, he seemed to almost be admitting his own shine. I wonder if Althaia is getting along alright... he thought vaguely. Somehow in his happiest moments he always thought of Althaia.
So there he was, strolling along the street, face turned to the sun, eyes closed. He really wasn't too surprised that he ran into someone. However, the chance that that person was the one he was just thinking about surprised him. "Althaia? Are you alright?" he asked.

"Eh...?" Looking up from her bow, the puppet's face seemed to brighten as she straightened herself, the heat and headache temporarily forgotten. It had certainly been a while since she last saw Trace - she was happy to see that she seemed well. She had missed talking to him, and seeing him around in general.
"Trace, I haven't seen you in a while." She smiled at him, before blinking at his question. Raising a rand, she tried to wave it dismissively, looking somewhat sheepish. "Oh...yes, I'm alright. It's a little hot today is all, and I've been working in my garden the whole morning." It probably wasn't necessary to mention that she had a headache. It'd go away eventually, though she was probably looking a little paler than usual.
"How have you been?" She asked, trying to steer the conversation away, "And Kiara?"

There was the slightest twitch of hesitation on Trace's face, just a split second when his grin seemed to turn down, and then it was gone. He was sunny again. "Oh, we've been fine! Here, let me help." He lifted the two bags from Althaia easily with one hand. "You don't look so well. You'll have to get yourself a nice sun hat so you won't be all fried up on your walks home."

She tilted her head slightly, feeling as if she had just seen something on Trace's face change, but it had been so fast that she almost wondered if she had just imagined it. "That's good to hear." Althaia smiled, before a startled look spread over her face as he picked up her bags. "Oh! Thank you, Trace. Though, they're a little heavy..." She held out one of her hands, "I'll carry one of them?"
Laughing softly, she nodded her head with embarrassment. "Today was just unexpectedly warm is all. I'm feeling a little dizzy," She admitted, "But I'll be okay in a bit. Besides, as much as I'd like to escape the heat, it's far too beautiful of a day to spend indoors."

Trace didn't seem to hear her, he was studying her outfit, rubbing his chin thoughtfully with his free hand. Then he looked up at her head, ever-so-gently turning her chin to the side to see all around it. "If only I had brought my sewing kit..." he muttered. He straightened and grinned again. "Well! Off we go! Can't keep you out here for too long. You need to get home and drink some nice, cold lemonade. Oh, wait..." he paused. "Did you say something?"

"Hhm?" She blinked, allowing her friend to turn her face this way and that. Looking somewhat awkward, she held still until he had finished. "Sewing kit?" Althaia repeated, curiously. She covered her mouth to stifle a small laugh as she nodded. "Something cold would be nice today," She agreed, before looking hesitant.
"Uh...no, don't worry about it. I just offered to carry one of the bags," She held out her hand towards the bags again, "After all, I can't make you carry both of them for me."

Trace pulled the bags away, raising an eyebrow. "Of course you can. Having a lady carry this? That's terribly rude." He smiled. "Truly, it's no big deal. These are only a fraction of the things I have to lift in training." He started strolling off down the street, back the way he came to get to Althaia's house.

"But..." Though Althaia had opened her mouth to protest, she shut it a moment after. She reached out, giving his arm a pat. "Are you sure it's fine?" Then, smiling, she gave a little curtsy. "Thank you for being a gentleman, Trace." She said, starting after him.
She was somewhat aware of the fact that her headache had started to grow, pounding now with more force. Rubbing at her temples again, she picked up her pace, hoping that she'd get home before it became too bad.

Trace slowed his pace and glanced at Althaia, his eyebrows knitting together slightly. "Althaia? Are you feeling well?" Without waiting for a reply he put down the bags and put his hands gently on her shoulders, stepping in front of her so his shadow cast down on her instead of the sun's rays. "You should rest." He scooped her up into his arms, walking over to the side of the street and placing her under a tree. He went back to retrieve the sun bags, then flopped onto his stomach next to her.
"Bring a water bottle as well, next time," he told her, picking a daisy. He studied it, then started picking others.

Snapping out of her thoughts, Althaia lowered her hand quickly, trying to smile reassuringly. Again, she opened her mouth to speak, but this time she didn't get a chance to. A soft, startled squeak escaped her lips as she was lifted, but she didn't move - as embarrassed as she was, her head was pounding too hard right now. Besides, she was was grateful that Trace had carried her to the shade of a tree.
Resting her head against the tree trunk, she watched the other puppet pick the flowers. "Mm. The morning wasn't this hot - I guess I just assumed the day couldn't get any warmer." Already feeling a little better, she closed her eyes. "I'm pretty careless sometimes..."

Trace smiled sympathetically. "Many people make that mistake, actually," he said lightly as he finally stopped picking the flowers and started entwining them together. He worked quickly, with obvious ease and skill. It only took about a minute before a flower crown was finished in his hands. He lifted it up and placed it on top of Althaia's head. It tilted slightly, and he laughed at the sight. "Your crown is crooked, Princess," he told her merrily.
He rolled over onto his back, propping himself up with his elbows and staring out at the sunny street. His grin had faded to a sad smile. "Kia and I used to sit in the shade like this and pick out shapes in the clouds. Before I..." he trailed off, his smile gone completely now as he watched a small puffy cloud drift by.

Opening her eyes, she smiled sheepishly. "I'll be sure to be more careful next time then." She watched him work with the daisies with interest. She looked up in surprise as it was placed onto her head and, after hearing what Trace said, she laughed. She raised both hands to adjust it, so that it lay neatly on her head. "Better?" Althaia asked with a grin.
After a moment, her own grin disappeared as she listened to him speak. Quietly, she reached out to rest a hand on his head, hoping to provide some silent comfort. She wasn't completely sure as to what Trace was talking about, but she was aware that, to watch the clouds, vision was necessary. Kiara wasn't born blind then - perhaps there had been some sort of accident? Regardless, Althaia wasn't going to prod. Someone she cared about was sad, and that's what mattered most right now.

Trace stared at the sky for several more minutes, then closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. "Have you ever felt so strongly for someone that even if the slightest possible chance of them getting hurt opens up, you feel... petrified. And you don't want to let them go, for fear something will happen to them when you're not around to protect them?"
He felt something crawl onto his hand, and he opened his eyes, lifting it to see. It was a ladybug, which had frozen on his knuckle when he moved. It still sat there, staring at him in shock. "And they seem so fragile, you're scared to touch them, in case they break under your fingers," he murmured, holding his hand up to a strand of grass so the ladybug could crawl onto it.

Carefully resting her head against the tree trunk again, her hand remained on her friend's head as she nodded slowly. "Of course..." She answered softly, after a moment of thought. "I'm not strong physically, but there are people I want to protect no matter what."
She thought of Kai, and Kehkas - two members of her family she always fretted over. Neither of them were the most careful of people, and she loved them to the point where she would always worry for their well being. And then, there was always her friends. She hadn't seen Trace in such a long time, she couldn't help but worry about him often. It had been a relief to see him again, but he seemed to have so much more on his mind. She was almost scared to touch him right now - he seemed so troubled.
Her gaze slide to Trace, and she sighed softly. She watched the ladybug as he spoke, and she put her arm around her shoulder to give him a small squeeze.
