So, lately I've been in the mood to maybe join an Avatar roleplay somewhere and in preparation for doing that, I started to build a character. I have the bare outlines of my little bender...except for a name. Now, I wanted something that would fit into the Avatar world, so I started writing out different character names from the show and hoping to hit on some inspiration...found something else in the process, regarding names and what nation the character comes from. Well, at least for Fire Nation names and Water tribe names. :3

For example, the Water tribe seems to favor names ending with an 'uh' sound, usually found at the end of the name, and also just long vowels in general:

Katara
Hakoda
Sokka
Kanna
Hama
Pakku

Fire nation names seem to favor names with short vowels:

Zuko
Ozai
Iroh
Azula
Mai
Roku

Of course, this doesn't really apply to all names, but I noticed it applies to a good portion of them.

Also, I'm sure there's some form of commonality between Air Nomad names and Earth Kingdom names, but I haven't found one as of yet. :3

Anyone have thoughts on this, or maybe point out the commonality that I'm missing with the other two nations?

yeah, I always thought that there was a theme going for the different nation's names. Fire nation seems to like the letter Z, and the Water tribes seem to like the letter K, and your analysis looks pretty good^^

For the Air nation there's
Aang
Gyatso
Appa(? XD)
Yang-Chen(the last Air Avatar)

Earth has
Toph
Haru
Long Feng
Jin
Lee

I'm sure there's more that I'm forgetting...

The Earth names seem pretty simple compared to some of the other ones from other nations...I mean, in terms of the amount of syllables. Toph, Lee and Jin only have one, the other two have two...
Though I don't know if that'd mean anything...

Ooh, that's quite interesting! Lol, only recently did I realize that the Water Tribes like to use the letter "K" in their names... I figured that out when I was writing a fanfic earlier this week. 3nodding
