Too many to choose from, you say?
You love them all equally?

Here's the challenge:

Name your Top 3 favorite Music Artists or Bands.
And list 3 of your favorite songs from them.

Go ahead and discuss why you like them if you want.

Music has to be one of my favorite form of entertainment on this earth. It can be used to express your life, your feelings, random s**t people think is worthy to sing about. It's all up to the artist what they want to express. It's hard to choose my favorites, because there are different reasons why I like certain bands that range from them expressing the deepest part of their soul to being able to arrange sounds so perfectly... to being randomly expressive of things they love... to trying to send a message out to listeners. It's a most difficult thing to limit it to 3...

1. Muse ~ My sweet English band. I <3 their music. Their songs are diverse, yet contain their trademark sound. Many people say their musical style is similar to Radiohead.

Citizen Erased (Origin of Symmetry), Endlessly (Absolution), Map of the Problematique (Black Holes and Revelations)

2. Tori Amos ~ Some women can relate, others have no idea what the ******** she's talking about. I <3 Tori. It's very hard for me to choose which songs of her I like best, because many of them mean a lot to me. Her lyrics are very, very artistic and are often drawn from person experiences or stories she's heard.

Crucify (Tales of a Librarian ~ I like this version more than the one on "Little Earthquakes"), Iieee (From The Choirgirl Hotel), Bliss (Tales of a Librarian ~ Same as "Crucify", original version is from "To Venus and Back")

3. Depeche Mode ~ Oh Dear God. David Gahan has one of the most attractive voices ever. They have numerous albums (dating back to the 1980s). I still haven't listened to all their music yet, but like Erasure, I skip through some of the more "British Pop" ones of their early days! There's a lot of electronic sounds in their later albums, which I quite frankly enjoy.

Personal Jesus (Violator), I Want It All (Playing the Angel), Never Let Me Down Again (Music for the Masses)

1. Tech N9ne~My main man from Kansas City Misery. Besides the orange hair and painted face (which he's dropped recently) he's just your everyday famous rapper. In fact he is borderline mainstream with his lyrics but still, I can't help but love this ninja.

Keep on Keepin' On (feat. Big Krizz Kaliko), I'm a Playa, City 2 City (feat. Tech N9ne and Big Krizz Kaliko) [[technically a Kottonmouth Kings song, but Tech's all over it]]

2. Vinnie Paz~Hard and Conscious lyrics, Paz is everything good about underground hip hop and what I wish the mainstream was (although there are a few good conscious mainstream folks on the market today). Paz is quiet literally a lyrical genius. He creates songs that are not only pleasant to the ear but touches on things that are real; social issues, conflicts, war, and overall life. Whether Paz is rapping next to Stoupe and Jus Allah as Jedi Mind Tricks or alongside over a dozen East Coast rappers as Army of the Pharaohs you're in for a ride, and more often then not...it's going to be a good one.

When All Light Dies, Tibetan Black Magicians (feat. Canibus), Nada Cambia

3. Twiztid~Poster boys of the Wicked s**t. The Geto Boys birthed the genre, Esham perfected it, and the Insane Clown Posse created a following...but Twiztid is the definition of Horrorcore. They constantly spit wickedly fresh lyrics that captivate their audience. They can scare the living piss out of you in one stanza and make you laugh out loud in the next. Jamie Madrox and Monoxide Child have two completely different flow styles but they mix so well that almost every song is catchy to the max. They are also probably the only two artists in the world who would never go mainstream for any amount of money, they've turned down deals to kick it in the Underground on Psychopathic Records and they have also traveled very long distances (talking different countries) to appear on albums for artists no one has ever heard of. They are also the group who probably loves the Juggalos the most.

How I Live (feat. Proof), Raw Deal (The Juggalo Song), Story of Our Lives

New Favorite Band; The Click Five
I've only heard their latest album but every song brings back a memory or two and three of the songs sum up my life as it stands now. I love it.

Enon; If I were sound waves, this is what I'd sound like. EVERY SONG.

That's it. Hah... no, but it gets hard from there. Enon is just my it band. My it music.

When it comes to music, I can't figure out if I'm super picky or not picky at all. I believe myself to be more lyrically driven then musically driven in terms of what attracts me to a band but that's not entirely true. Obviously a pleasing blend of both lyrics and music is ideal but often times I have to 'settle' for one or the other as, again, I think I might be too pick in what I listen too. And frankly, I don't listen to a lot. Music is not the end all be all of my existence, and most certainly not a lot of music produced now. A very large chunk of my favorite music are bands and people that are now dead. Unfortunately. But that's not always the case. Just usually. I'll try to think of bands that are not dead. Other then for Queen, because Queen is necessary. So very necessary.

Radiohead - heart heart heart

There There (Hail to the Theif) My Iron Lung (The Bends) Idioteque (Kid A)

Queen - Freddy Mercury > Everything else

Under Pressure (Hot Space) Killer Queen (Sheer Heart Attack) Death on Two Legs (A Night at the Opera)

Wilco - Because I'm a lot more mellow then people think I am. Sometimes.

Handshake Drugs (A Ghost is Born) I am Trying to Break Your Heart (Yankee Hotel Foxtrot) On and on and on (Sky Blue Sky)

Well lets see... My favorite three bands you ask? Hmmm... I know three easily...

Smashing Pumpkins - They just rock... That's the bottom line for that one... Indeed.
Cherub Rock (Siamese Dream),The Everlsating Gaze (MACHINA), Tarantula (Zeitgeist)

Muse - They rock... Just not as hard as the Smashing Pumpkins...
Muscle Museum (Showbiz), Stockholm Syndrom (Absolution), Supermassive Black Hole (Black Holes and Revelations

Tool - Their unique style and deep, confusing lyrics.
Hooker With A p***s (Aenima), Schism (Lateralus), Jambi (10,000 Days)

Well I have seen Tool live and I was going to see Smashing Pumpkins on Friday, but unfortunately I requested the wrong day off and missed it (Matt's friend was going to hook me up but since it took so long I never got the right date and by the time I did it was too late). Sooo... Alas, I have to wait for them to come back to Texas.

Tool live... was AMAZING.

I'd go again and again.

no particular order....

The Mars Volta
At the Drive-In was good and unheard of (for the most part), but Mars Volta is incredible and unheard of. Their albums are a tasty treat for my ears.
Cicatriz ESP (De-Loused in the Comatorium), Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore (Frances the Mute), Televators (De-Loused in the Comatorium)

Beastie Boys
C'mon... a trio of white New York rappers who have persisted (consistently, I might add) in a genre of music dominated by blacks. Not only do they try to stand for something (nowadays at least) while not taking themselves too seriously, but they play psedu-jazz as well!
Paul Revere (License to Ill), Pass the Mike (Check Your Head), Sabotage (Ill Communication)

Queen
If anyone can say that they don't like Queen, they should be burned at the stake. But seriously, Queen is so ridiculously awesome, I don't know what to do with myself. Freddy Mercury ftw!
Don't Stop Me Now (Jazz), Under Pressure (Hot Space), Somebody to Love (A Day at the Races)

(Mos Def comes close...)

I've never cared for Mars Volta, I like At the Drive-In and Sparta more. I get their concept, I just don't like their sound. I would also say that Mars Volta is pretty well known.

Really? Maybe I'm just hanging out with the wrong crowd... no one has ever heard of any of those three bands. Its a little disheartening. sad

Not that it matters, unknown or not. I know a lot of people that love The Mars Volta, myself included. whee
