History

Many years ago there was a ninja that specialized in wood jutsu. His name was Kouken. He wanted to be a Hokage but someone else got the job. Since he could no longer follow that dream he found a new one: creating a new village. After teaching his family how to manipulate wood they set out deep into the forests to take on the mission. Kouken was always getting sick from overworking so his wife became a Medical-nin. After the small village was built they celebrated. Many days later a loud sound woke them up. Trees were being knocked over from far away. Danger was heading straight for their village. Kouken was an old man but that wasn't going to stop him from protecting what he and his family had worked so hard to complete. He touched a tree, frowned, told his family to hide and took a sword out of the tree. Ima finally arrived at the village and was intending to destroy it, because the family had "trashed his forest." Kouken told it he was very gentle with the forest and that Ima was actually the one trashing it because he was knocking over trees. This ticked the demon off and started a fight. After driving it away Kouken became critically wounded and needed hospitalization for the rest of his life. After his death, Kouken became the title of the ninja who was to guard the village, it's secrets and the clan. Every time Ima attacked the Kouken drove it away with Kodachi Kata. Eventually a Kouken defeated it and got rid of it for good. Later stories started popping up about a demon tree in the middle of the Mokuzai Forest but it doesn't appear to be a threat. The Mokuzai operate as a separate village but still show allegiance to Higakure. They have a high survival rate because of their healing capabilities and ability to replace without even thinking about it.

The Mokuzai Forest has heavily reinforced defenses. It is said to be able to withstand any attack. Anyone not Mokuzai that has entered the forest uninvited has either escaped with a near-death-experience or has never returned. Survivors say the forest is alive and attacked them and almost killed them. Whether it is the forest, just Mokuzai jutsu or some other reason is classified (only the Kouken really knows what's going on, other Mokuzai can only guess).

The clan's kekkei genkai gives them a natural ability to use Seiton. It takes lots of experience to fully master it and only a select few are able to unlock it's full potential.

Seisousa (Life Manipulation)

The user is able to emit green visible chakra which allows him to manipulate living things. The green chakra is unblockable. The user can easily cut up an opponent or heal wounds. A user that has mastered it is able to heal automatically by releasing the green chakra whenever he gets hurt. This kekkei genkai can be used to control living things as long as the user is touching them. It is forbidden to control the dead because it is seen as extremely disrespectful.

Shunjika (Instant Replace)

The user has a sense that is able to detect when he is about to get hurt or about to die. It is believed that this ability comes from Haradokei. This ability can automatically activate whenever the user senses danger and the user automatically gets replaced with wood. This is the main reason the Mokuzai have such a high survival rate.

Branches

The clan is split up into different branches. The Mokuzai consider themselves as one family tree but prefer to stay within their own branch socially. Each branch has a dictated leader who is the best of the best in his branch. Each branch operates separately but will help each other if necessary. If someone from a different branch walks into another branch's section of the forest, there won't be a problem but usually that person gets some weirds looks his way. There have never been major fights between branches because they consider each other family.

Main Branch - This is the original branch of the Mokuzai and where all other branches come from. At its birth, the clan did not have different branches. The Main Branch refers to those who aren't in a specialized (new) branch. Any newborn children are recommended to grow up in this branch so they can choose which branch they want to be in.

Medical Branch - Ninja of this branch have mastered seisoujuu and are elite healers. They can keep people from dying, even when the wounds are severe to the point that the injured shouldn't be able to live much longer.

Puppet Branch - Ninja of this branch have mastered controlling living things with seisoujuu. This branch has many conflicts with the other branches who do not agree with them using seisoujuu to control the dead, which is forbidden. This branch ignores many clan rules but still is part of the family tree.

Sword Branch - Ninja of this branch are specially trained by the Kouken to learn Kodachi Kata. The ninja of this branch act as the soldiers of the Kouken, waiting on his command and wisdom.

Ghost Branch - This branch seems to have disappeared. It started when Mokuzai started describing "visions" they had while they were sleeping. The Kouken at the time decided to check it out and found that they would die in their sleep and come back to life when they wake up. He confronted them and told them that their spirits were leaving their bodies whenever they slept and returned whenever they would normally wake up. The Kouken asked the Medical Branch what they ought to do but they had no idea. They called the condition Seimuyuubyou (Sleepwalking Spirit) Disorder. It didn't seem to be that big of a problem but the Kouken was still concerned because their bodies were more vulnerable in their sleep than usual.

Soul Laws

The clan noticed patterns as they studied how souls work. They called them Soul Laws, which are recognized as truth now since they've been proven so many times.
Quote:
1) All living things have a soul.
2 ) Souls can neither be created nor destroyed.
3 ) Souls are not limited to any shape or form and can be split and transformed in any way.
4 ) The soul leaves the body to another dimension as soon as the body dies.
5 ) When a soul is reincarnated, it starts over from the beginning, forgetting anything it learned in its past lives and becomes a baby once more.
6 ) Every body has a time limit as to how long the soul can live in it. After that time limit is reached, the soul must leave.
7 ) In order for a departed soul to be brought back from the dead, a living soul of the same size must be sacrificed as a trade.
8 ) If any part of the soul dies before another, then it can join with the last living part. It has a very short time limit for how long it has to rejoin until the whole soul it is taken by the Shinigami.
9 ) If the soul is split, then all energy (stamina, chakra and chi) is split between each piece.
10 ) The soul uses the mind to control the body.

The Medical Branch are the best who know how to apply these laws since they've been studying the soul for more than a thousand years.

Kodachi no Jutsu (Tree Sword Technique)

The user will put index and middle finger together and other fingers down then touch a tree. The tree explodes and inside will be a kodachi (Tree Sword). Many people confuse kodachi meaning "short sword" until they meet it in battle (being surprised at how big the sword really is). The user uses his chakra rather than brute strength to swing the sword around.

The user will snap his fingers to make wood explode into a bunch of needles.

Yoroiko no Jutsu (Wood Armor Technique)

Mokuzai jounin and chuunin usually wear yoroiko (wood armor). By using this jutsu the user can move around easier/faster and the armor will automatically heal whenever damaged.

Kokingasa no Jutsu (Wood Military Hat Technique)

The user can manipulate the hat at will after using this jutsu. The user can make the hat float and move around wherever/however he wants. This makes it easier to retrieve the kokingasa. Also this can be used to make the kokingasa repair back to normal if it gets damaged or if the user used bokuharetsu on it.

User focuses chakra to an area of his body that will be hit so that it will be healed as soon as that area takes damage.

Hansei Curse (Anti-Soul Curse)

The user places a curse on a weapon. If the weapon pierces the person's body, his body becomes cursed so no soul can stay in it anymore and gets kicked out (killing the person). This has been forbidden for a long time because Mokuzai didn't want everyone running around with Hansei weapons. The Ryoukyuuchi clan used to use Hansei weapons to defeat vampires, until a Kouken forbid Hansei weapons and destroyed them to prevent vampires from getting their hands on them.

A pile of wood will appear and surround the user. This can also be used as a shield.

Fighting
_______

Their main fighting style is Kodachi Kata (Tree Sword Style). The user is taught Kodachi no Jutsu then is trained in Kodachi Kata so that he can wield a kodachi correctly. A kodachi is very heavy so the user is taught to use his chakra to manipulate it which is much easier. The main focus is to keep the sword moving in relatively the same direction instead of changing directions, which would take more energy. By doing this the user has a fast rate of attack which is hard to slow down because of the amount of force in the attack. The users hands will be far apart while wielding the kodachi so that he can take advantage of torque by applying opposite forces with each hand to rotate and swing the sword faster/harder. Since the sword is so big and heavy the user may stop his chakra flow on it and swing around it to dodge attacks, get in a better position or use it as a shield.

Suujiku (Pivot) is a form in in which the user is taught to hold the sword by the end of the handle while the handle is against their side so that they can apply all their force in turning it in one direction, and using their side as the pivot point thereby making the attack even stronger.

Takodachi (Multi-Tree Swords) is a form in which the user uses many kodachi in order to attack at a faster rate. Rather than chasing after an opponent while holding a kodachi the user will throw a kodachi at the opponent, just jump over to a closer kodachi or both. This form is much harder to dodge than any other form. It is easier to attack because rather than trying to change the direction of the sword the user just swung or trying to keep swinging the sword, the user will just let go of it and use another one which makes it easier for the user to dodge and attack.
