Elva prepared herself for what would happen next. Standing behind Hans now, the children all stood up and ran over to them like a pack of wild animals in a stampede, almost colliding with her and him as they stopped. Soon enough all thought of the rules left the children's minds as they all asked their questions at the same time. I knew this wasn't going to be easy! She placed her hands on Hans' back and waited for the children to calm down. But she was starting to hate the idea of her being behind him as her mother looked at them again.

Hans had never really been around kids much, but he easily slipped into the mentor groove, shushing them when needed and making the story as dramatic as possible without bending the truth..too much. By the time they were finished the littlest was asleep on his knee and the other two were yawning terribly, but still trying to come up with questions not already asked. Elva's mother called it a night and the kids groaned lightly but stood bleary eyed and followed Elva's mother into their room. Hans was about to get up before he noticed the child at his knee. Trying to be steady and not wake him Hans lifted the todler into his strong arms and stood smoothly following Elva's mother to the door across the family room. He glanced down at the peaceful, sleeping face as he walked through the door and placed the child carefully where Elva's mother directed. He tucked the hand made quilt over him and stood steppig carfully over the few toys and ball that were sread on the floor, glancing back at the children snug and comfortable, not able to remember the last time he felt the same way.

Elva sat next to her brothers as they all asked questions for Hans to answer. When he needed some help telling the story, Elva came in with the answers, smiling up at him when she answered. Once it was time for them to sleep, Elva helped her mother tuck them all in. She then stepped back as Hans came in with Peter in his arms. A small smile couldn't help but appear as she watched him tuck the little one in bed. Elva was then surprised when her mother pulled her out of the room to talk to her privately. "That young man is very handsome don't you think Elva?" she asked her. Elva started blushing a deep red. "I don't know what you're talking about mother!" she said quietly. "He would make a great husband, and father to possible children!" her mother added. "Mama! He's German!" she said, not knowing what to really say.

Hans stood for a long time just by the door looking over the sleeping forms before he sighed lightly and turnned out of the door. He closed it behind himself before turning to see the two women, suspiciously quiet, both staring at him. In an isntant two things became obvious, that they were having an interresting conversation and that it had something to do with him from the suffocated looks they both simultaneously gave him. The three adults just stood there for a while looking from one to another awkwardly.

Elva and her mother immediately stopped talking just when they heard the door close behind them. They both looked at Hans silently, not knowing what to say. For some reason, Elva knew that Hans knew what they were talking about. Crap what do I do? She cleared her throat and walked over to Hans nervously, ignoring the strange smile on her mother's face. "Um, it's getting late. Why don't you go sleep in my room for the night. I'll sleep with my siblings," she said to him, turning to look at her mother again. Her smile was on that wrinkled face again. That smile made her stomach clench. She cleared her throat again as she led him to her room, keeping her head down so as to not get eye contact with Hans.

Hans was just as eager to get out of the situation as Elva seemed to be so he agreed without really hearing what she said and followed quickly behind her. All the way he could feel Elva's mother's eyes on his back and he knew she was wearing that weird look that made him want to look to the floor and scuff his feet, like a missbehaving child. As they walked back into what he now knew was her room he realized what it was she'd said, she was relinquishing her bed to a stranger for the second night in a row. Hans stopped and said as he tried to ignore the fire inside the built up when he realized the scent he'd so loved when he was waking up was hers. "Elva, I won't be taking your bed again, just show me where to go and i'll sleep there, you've earned a good nights rest."

Elva was getting her bed prepared for Hans when he came out and told her that he would sleep somewhere else so that she could sleep in her own room. She immediately turned to look at Hans, still bending down to fix the covers. "Don't be silly Hans, you deserve a good nights rest more than I do. You helped save my family so I insist that you sleep here for the night," she said then stood up straight, looking up at him with a warm smile. Now that her mother was no where in the room, Elva felt more comfortable talking to him. "I won't take no for an answer Hans!" she added, placing her hands on her hips like what her mother does sometimes.

Hans openned his mouth to say something and closed it a few times before he realised it was pointless. He had a feeling that it was her dramatic hands-on-hips pose that made him want to just back away and tell her she was right. AS a last ditch effrot he gave a small, "I still don't think you should.." Beofre stopping and sighing his defeat. She was so different from anyone he'd ever known before! That pose, her words everything about her was something he'd never expirianced in a woman. Her fire was amazing, Hans could almost feel it, she wouldn't take no for an answer, and he liked that about her, it was so hard to find before he hadn't even known it to be possible. But here she was, someone that would always change his world.

Elva, realizing that she had won this little disagreement, walked over to Hans and led him to her bed. She pushed him gently onto the bed then looked down at him, his amazing blue eyes striking her like a knife. She took a deep breath to calm herself then smiled. "Well good night Hans! I'll see you tomorrow!" she said in a cheerful voice. Then with all the strength she had, Elva bent forward and gave Hans a quick kiss on the cheek before leaving the room. When she closed the door behind her, she almost let out a scream when she saw her two baby sisters watching her from a wall to her left. "Shouldn't you two be asleep now?" she said in an exasperated voice. Her sisters started giggling from behind their hands. "Do you like that an Elva?" one of them asked her. Elva began to turn a small shade of red and made sure that the door behind was closed all the way. "We'll discuss this tomorrow morning! Now you two go to bed!" she said and walked with them to their room. As Elva laid with her brothers and sisters in the room, she couldn't help but wonder off into her own world, thinking about nothing but what it would be like if this war hadn't started and how her and Hans would have met if they were to see each other in another situation. She soon found herself falling asleep to these thoughts.
