I don't mind being asked to make things officially guild sponsored, but I don't want to be asked to give consent to every random undertaking or services thread under the sun. Just post things and if I have a problem with it, I'll let you know. :p
I've never been big on 'battle' Rps. Too many people focus on combat which, yes, can be tough to write well, but it's hardly what RP is all about. If you'd like to set up something like that, feel free, but RPing out a battle arena isn't really my cup of tea.
If someone wanted to come up with some other RP sort of competition/event I'd be willing to help out with the organizing or even judging of that. I prefer something more rounded than just battling.
Could be kind of cool to have an RP-off, sort of an Iron Chef of RP. Pick a couple good RPers every so often and let others challenge them. Maybe if the challenger wins they would become the challenged for the next bout.
We could have an interesting way to choose the character types (their position/career/class/etc), the setting (time/place), possibly the tense (past/present/etc), and point of view (first person/third/limited omniscience/etc). Maybe even an epic round where the style of the writing would be determined for each competitor, which could change from person to person for even more challenge. One person could be writing in an inner monologue noir style, while another is writing in a pun-ridden Piers Anthony style or some such. This idea, of course, would be more for fun as a bonus round, to see who can be assigned any random thing and pull it off, than to determine the ability of the writer. Maybe a tie-breaker.
Kind of reminds me of who's line is it anyway, when they're assigned a sort of character to play and have to improvise and run with it.
Could have the characters assigned at random and let the Rper being challenged choose the setting, or vice versa.
Just some ideas.
They'd then exchange a series of posts between the characters.
A scale of sorts would need to be set up, determining what aspects were being judged exactly, characterization, grammar, development, detail, moving the action, etc etc.
But it could be interesting and result in prizes and bragging rights.

Well, THAT sounds like too much work for me...
I'm gonna wait on doing anything like that for now, then. I doubt I could fund it anyway...

Well I wasn't suggesting you specifically. It should probably be run by some of the best RPers we can find, so that the judges are qualified to judge.
It's just an idea.

Right. I suppose with two threads that need my attention open, I can hold off on a 3rd for the time being, until I come up with better ideas.

An RP off would be really cool.
It could be all like:
SETTING: Tea-shop
CHARACTER: Mutant Squid
GENRE: Historical.
MAKE IT WORK!
And then have two challengers RP the scenario and it could be voted on which is the most plausible. Or hilarious.
It wouldn't always have to be weird, but I think to through in some insane s**t makes people really have to work that much harder.

See, this is what I'm saying. Make it fairly normal, as far as normal goes in RPs, but have a wtfweirdshit round.
I'd want something to vary between contestants. But not too much so that one person whould have it easier.
The question is who's going to be the person/s challenged?
