blacksheepmails geek has more negative social connotations while nerd nowadays generally means studious. also, nerds are OVERALL studious while geeks focus on one ore two subjects Most of the people I know over here see it the other way around where the geek is the overall studious one and the nerd is the one focusing on only 1 or 2 subjects. These different views make it harder to decide where you fit in =P

Neither term is offensive to me. I embrace my inner geek/nerd!

I've heard that dork's original meaning isn't something anyone would want to use to describe themselves, but in this case language has evolved for the better.
I think a nerd places his personal interests first and the opinions of others second, but a geek is always trying to reconcile the two (and is rarely successful). The word "nerd" seems to have connotations of being more professional and scholarly, though still lacking in social graces.

I like geek, nerd just doesn't feel right in my brain. Geeks are better with people, even if it's only other geeks. Nerds don't appear to have any ppl skillz...

"Nerd" makes me think of the show Happy Days.... <.<" Blame my sister for that one.
I call myself both terms. Neither bothers me, and I don't really prefer one to the other.

I myself have always preferred the term 'nerd' to 'geek'. This is just an opinion, but nerd seems to sound a bit less harsh.

I don't think that either 'geek' or 'nerd' is preferable. However, I'm definitely a nerd, due to the socially inept aspect.
(why does everyone seem so upset about the biting off chickens' heads thing?I'm a vegetarian, and yet I'm not all that upset!)
