When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. But when life gives you potatoes, make (insert potato dish here).
I'm guessing Ireland has a lot of potatoes and followed that statement above.

I like potatoes ^^ but with little butter. eek i hate skins, well those small ones arent bad but with roosters its always mashed. The odd roastie with butter and a light sprinkle of cheese aint bad though

i say we are obsessed with the yummy veggie,
we eat them at most meals including
breakie and lunch.
loads of moi irish friends say that without
potatoes they would give up eating altogether
maybe not that extreme but to some extent.

yea i think we are...well, my family certainly are
i remember once when my da cooked the dinner we all sat down and there was dishes upon dishes of vegetables, yet everyone exclaims simultaneously "WHERE ARE THE POTATOES!?!"

Chiki32 MMMH Potatoes..I didn't realise how much I eat them till we were away in Italy last year on our school tour, we were all dying of starvation our lunches were fine, pizza ya whatever but em the dinners were horrible, by this point now we were sick of cheese, or last day at the hotel out comes the waitors with trays of what looked like creamy mashed potatoes, by this point now like everyone was drooling so they put down the potatoes onto our playes, everyone takes a massive spoon of it and shooves it into our mouthes AND..there was cheese in the mashed potatoes..CHEESE.. stare stare , then came the tears.. crying crying everyone started skitting but in a depressed kind of way, Why God WHY. Why were you so cruel??.. and to anwser your question..yes Irish people like potatoes..ALOT..mmmh. Ones with a bit of butter on them, or creamy mashed potatoes, oh and gravy oh mmmh. Now I'm hungry. Potatoes are amazing...XD I'm Irish, not born there, neither were my parents, though... That's SOOOOOOO sad!!! I'm sorry!!! Yeah, I guess every nation has a staple food. XD Italians love cheese, Irish love potatoes, Americans love grease. XD Just kidding. I'm American, so...^^

I am not Irish as in from Ireland, I'm Irish-American and I love potatoes. No I'm not obsessed, not really I' just kinda obsessed with food in general.But really who doesn't love potatoes?
I think the reason that some people think that Irish people are obsessed with potatoes is because It was a major food scource so people were obsessed with having it so people wouldn't starve.

OUCH! I AM SO OFFENDED..O.K. Not really (maybe just a bit..surface level xd ) I am 1/4 Irish (but extra Gaelic cuz I'm Scottish too) and 1/4 Italian and take major pride in both cultures because they are my two strongest gene sources as far as the ethnicity's I am. Cheese is one of the best things in existence, yes creamy mashed potatoes are to die for but I'd do anything for cheese! What I actually really love is potatoes on my pizza from this amazing pizza place in Tucson (where i live) called Brooklyn Pizza where you can get all sorts of strange things on pizza, i usually get potatoes, potatoes and pineapple or meatballs on my pizza there it rocks! YAY for Potato pizza for this Irish-Italian-American girl!!! mrgreen
