Wet Lettuce Power as you push the keys down? Feasible on a small scale probably... Plans do exist in UK to transfer energy of people walking on sidewalks into energy, or so I have heard. Unless you are playing for an extremely long period of time and just wish to charge your cell phone, You probably wouldn't be able to do anything worth noting. Or it could feasibly power your entire keyboard, but every key uses approx. 10 lbs of pressure. They do? I've never heard of such a plan, our government is to stingy stare

I would so do that if I had the resources to build it. It would be amazing. Really, I would love to generate electricity while playing.
This would be most useful for playing the piano in the dark. In the middle of the woods.
...what if you were scared of the dark, and you were in the middle of nowhere, and all you had was this piano? You would be playing because you were scared. Hehe. That would be interesting.

Solar panels maybe cost too much, I mean not just money.
But someone mentioned the idea of pedaling. That is similar to the player piano from 1 century ago. It is a good idea, but not for the person to play the piano and pedal at the same time. If it is an assistant in the background (in case there is a performance) to pedal, that is ok.
The keyboard pressing to produce energy may not produce enough energy to tranfer the note played through electronic equipment and then to sound. Also, would the keyboard mechanism be too bulky? It may be ok for smaller electronic pianos because the keys are already very light. But for digital pianos (the bigger ones that try to look like a spinet), it may be strange because the new mechanism has a different touch. Professional musicians will hate adjusting to a new touch.
But regardless, they should offer at least some extra support for energy if there is a battery to store it from the solar panel/pedal/keyboard. It can be just for general use and non-classical performance.

Heh, electricity-generating piano is a good idea ^^ It would work pretty well! Hand me the wrong sheet music, though, and I might short-circuit my whole house xp
