ceberes
oh and i never heard of ceberus in the FF serious can some one tell me where he came from
dude!! cerberus is from Hercules the movie as a pet of wats his name? i dont remember his name right now.
The pet of Hades. Lord of the Underworld. And Cerberus dated back much farther than just that movie. Its been a part of Greek mythology for a long, long time now. Its a gargantuan three-deaded dog with a snake for a tail that guards the gates to Hades, or the Greek underworld. So pretty much, given it has a mythological background, it was going to end up in FF in some way shape or form, and it has been since it first showed up as a common enemy in one of the earlier games.

Cerberus is also the name of vincents gun, Because it has three barrels and vincent also has a cerberus neclace which looks cool. By the way has any1 played FF7: Dirge of Cerberus it a game like devil may cry but with vincent...it is awesome heart

One-Winged Angel (Katayoku no Tenshi) lit. "an angel with wings on one side"
The name "Safer Sephiroth" may have been a mis-romanization of the boss' name when translating from Japanese, as was the case with Helletic Hojo, which should have been translated as "Heretic Hojo," and "Bizzaro Sephiroth," which should have been "Rebirth Sephirot." A common rumor is that "Safer" is a mistranslation of "Seraph" due to Safer Sephiroth's angelic appearance.
It should also be noted that the name "Sephiroth" itself refers to a central concept in Qabbalah, which is based on the Ten Sephiroth (plural, the singular form being "Sephirah"). Sephiroth does bear many similarities to a seraph, as seraphim are described in the Hebrew Bible, being humanoid angels with six wings: "With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying." Safer Sephiroth can easily be interpreted as bearing the appearance of a seraph with an additional wing added in place of his right arm.
Safer Sephiroth is also known as the "One-Winged Angel," which is also the title of the well-known song which accompanies the battle with Safer Sephiroth. The title is also significant to Sephiroth's character due to its fallen angel connotation, a symbolic form of reference for those who have fallen from grace. To some, the name "One-Winged Angel" seems strange, as Safer Sephiroth has a total of seven wings. However, the original Japanese name is "Katayoku no Tenshi" which means "an angel with wings on one side," rather than an angel with only one wing. However, "One-Winged Angel" is most likely in reference to the wing that replaces Sephiroth's right arm. Yet, in Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children (right after he is defeated by Cloud and his presence fades away from Kadaj) Sephiroth appears in his classic black outfit, albeit with one large wing protruding through his right shoulder blade. Lucifer, or Satan, is commonly referred to as a "one-winged angel" as God cut off one of his wings before banishing him.
~~This was all the really intresting information that I was able to find.. However at the bottom is what I feel it represents.~~

Quote:
It represents a multiple sided nature-dark and light side, both of which conflict and fight within him constantly, hence the "one winged" angel- a fallen angel who has lost one of its wings which has been replaced by a demon wing.

Wikipedia is a beautiful thing

Quote:
The one winged angels, also known as Nephilim were the childern of angels abandand by god, and banished to earth for loving mankind more then god. The angels banished to earth were called the Grigori. Jenova represents the Grigori in some aspects, and God in others by the very name relating to the Jehova's Witness idea of God's name being Jehova

Uh, actually Jehova's witnesses aren't the only ones to think God's(actually, Jesus') name is Jehova. They didn't think it up. sweatdrop
As for the Enoch stuff, I don't have Enoch in my bible, so I looked it up on good ol' Wikipedia, and it's apparently only part of the Apocrypha, which would explain why the story wasn't any kind of familiar to me.

Anyways, I looked up the Sephiroth article on Wiki too, and thought I'd share some more interesting facts(since I think we've gotten to the bottom of the original question and I'd like to contribute)

Quote:
Sephiroth (or "enumerations"), in the Kabbalah of Judaism, are the ten attributes that God (who is referred to as אור אין סוף Aur Ain Soph, "limitless light") created through which he can project himself to the universe and man. These emanations manifest not only in the physical part of the universe, but also in the metaphysical one. Kabbalah distinguishes between four different "worlds" or "planes".

Kabbalah confuses the heck outta me O.o
Another interesting note though is this:
The names of the Sephirot are:

Kether Elyon (Kabbalah) (Crown; כתר)
Chokhmah (Wisdom; חכמה)
Binah (Kabbalah) (Intelligence; בינה)
Chesed or Gedulah (Love or Mercy); חסד)
Din or Gevurah (Power or Judgement); גבורה)
Tifereth or Rakhamim (Compassion); תפארת)
Netzach (Lasting Endurance); נצח)
Hod (Majesty); הוד)
Yesod (Basis or Foundation); יסוד)
Malkuth or Shekinah (Kingdom); מלכות)

I wonder if they got Tifa's name from the same source.

Ok... i don't get why he has one wing... i might've forgotten... or is there no reason?

He's a fallen angel
PostPosted: Sat Apr 07, 2007 9:11 pm

Ok, I think it's been thouroughly established why the designers made him a one winged angel. But what about the canonical reasons? Where exactly did that come from? I suppose spending five years in a mako crystal can do that to you...

One thing I thought was interesting, is that Sephiroth isn't the only one to display this feature. In the secret ending of DoC

*spoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoilerspoiler*

Genesis, one of Shinra's projects specimens and a former SOLDIER, is released from the mako crystal he was trapped in. He retrieves Weiss and then reveals an enormous black wing from his left shoulder, proceding to fly away.

In fact, Sephiroth isn't even canonically the first to have this trait, as is seen in the trailers to Crisis Core. During one scene, Zack comes across a SOLDIER name (appropriatly enough) Angeal who has a single, white wing (white just screams good guy) It dissapears shortly after, but Angeal is shaken up by it.

Perhaps this is due to the SOLDIER process, and there are more people out there capable of being "One Winged Angels" without realising it?

Just about everything I planned on saying about Sephiroth when I saw the title of this thread's already been said. I DO have one thing regarding the Cloud fights in KH1. Has anyone else noticed that Cloud's wing in KH1 is essentially the polar opposite of Sehiroth's? Sephiroth has a black angel wing on his right shoulder, whereas Cloud has a shining demon's wing on his left. I suppose you could look at it that Cloud and Sephiroth are essentially the same person gone gone down two different paths, considering the above mentioned descriptions. I find it a little ironic, though, that the hero of FFVII gets the demon wing, which is generally associated with darkness and evil whereas Sephiroth, the pinnacle of darkness, evil, and all-around badguyness not only has the wing of an angel, but transforms into a seraphim, even going so far as to be called "Safer" (Sephar) Sephiroth at the end. Crazy ideas, neh?
