In 1988 Jon Pertwee didn't get any of his birthday cake.
Elaborate? Yes? No?
Yes please?
xDOkay. In 1988 Pertwee was in Minneapolis, Minnesota for Polaris Con, a SciFi convention that my dad worked at.
Funny story 1: My dad made the fanzine reading room out of cardboard boxes and beanbag chairs and my dad can make anything look like anything. He was putting the finishing touches on this reportedly fantastic looking room when Pertwee came in, looked around and noted the materials that it was made from and surprised my dad by spontaniously saying "Yup. This is up to BBC standards."
Funny story 2: Going though some of my old family pictures one day I found a picture of Pertwee in a Minnesota Twins t-shirt cutting a cake and I asked my dad what the story was. He told me that his birthday happened while he was here and the staff threw a party for him. Well, Pertwee cut the cake and passed it out and when all was said and done, there wasn't any left for him XD.
Through the Polaris Cons and Time, Space, and Fantasy cons my dad ended up meeting Troughton, Pertwee, Davison, and McCoy. We've got autographs and my dad's got stories (like how he traded baby stories with Davison and how McCoy thinks that Americans have an obsession with cinnamon) and we could've gotten more if Creation Entertainment hadn't bought out all the little fan conventions by paying guests tons of money and making them sign exclusive contracts.
By the way, I was 2 at the time.
