"Yeah...thanks a lot." Waru grumbled. The screaming had him, sword in hand ready to attack, shielding a blinking Lyra. "That's a great trick, wonderful..." He hopped out of the hammock and glanced around. The sunlight was dazzling. "Hey...how's Amadeus?" He asked.

Amadeus looked down at the sound of his name. He was standing on the very top branch of a tree, high enough in the air to make a sky diver nervous. He was clinging to the trunk of the tree with one hand, his wings spread, smiling a little. The front of his shirt flapped open, and the stitches were visible. He hadn't tried to pull at them, which he was sure was much the relief of the others. Friends were perhaps a better term. Were they friends?
The wound still had not healed over, though, and Amadeus, who had Theonidas's ability to regenerate, had not. Why? It was a good question, but the fallen angel gave no sort of answer to it. No on had asked. His right hand still clutched the butterfuly Lyra had made for him, and the book he had pulled out of the air the night before was tucked in the crook of his arm.
"Amadeus isn't here," he said happily, like a chirping bird. "Nope!"
And then he pointed excitedly into the distance. "We're going there! I wanna go there! I live there!"

"Good idea, Deus," replied Rien. "Any way we can get there without walking though?" She asked. "Come down and tell us."
It wasn't that she was afraid that he'd fall- he did have wings after all- it was just... well, she didn't know what but she wanted him on the ground- safe and next to the others.

"Yeah, Last time I checked, Lyra and you are the only two with wings." Waru said with a laugh. It was nice to see Amadeus in a good mood. The ring had definately been pointing in the direction that Amadeus was now pointing at. He wasn't going to comment on the 'Amadeus isn't here' statement. He was in a good mood, he knew where they were going and Waru was satisfied that that was enough for now.
Lyra was pulling on her boots, eyes flickering upwards at the tree-locked angel.
" I can't make wings. I'm not that powerful...and you better get out of that tree soon. I have to make the forest go away." She said with a bright smile. As a child, she'd always found people who smiled more likable. She was able to analyse that when we was older, knowing that smiles were associated with happy people, nice people etc. and the whole list of explanations why people seemed to like people better but if Amadeus was in a child's state of mind, a good attitude would probably go a long way.

Puzzlement came over Amadeus, but he shrugged and jumped off the tree branch he had been standing at. Not bothering to unfurl his wings to catch himself, he simply fell feet-first towards the ground at a rather alarming rate. He hit the grass and let his knees bend with the impact and he was soon crouched, unharmed. He returned Lyra's smile, this one not his normal sneer, just a happy little grin.
"If we hafta walk, it'll take a reeeeeeeally long time. This long!" He held out his hands, the space between them about as long as his armspan. Apparently, he thought he could measure time AND distance. He appeared to ponder for a moment.
"We could...ride in a carriage. Deus will pull. It'll be fun. We'll get there much faster! There's a mountain range along the way, and we'll go UP and DOWN REALLY fast, and it'll be like a rollar coaster. I have some stuff in it, and you'd have to keep it on your lap, but it's not THAT much stuff, and it's not that heavy, really," Amadeus said, nodding as he spoke.
So, Amadeus had been traveling after them, for a long time now, almost immediately after he had been "killed" by the Reaper. The things he carried with him where in a large wooden cart that resmbled a two-wheeled, backwards wheel barrow. They'd probably all fit, but some people might have to sit on other people. The cart was hidden behind the forest Lyra had created, and the group could not yet see it.
In truth there were only two things in the cart. A book like the one he held, this one with a strannge inisignia on the front, and a large, oddly shaped object under a tarp.
Amadeus's voice lowered to a whisper. "One's for Theo. The other's for Nolah."

"Hey, that's perfect man." Waru gave his shoulder a friendly squeeze.
Lyra wanted to ask immediately what the object for Nolah was but didn't. Instead she instructed that everyone pack up and the four went about gathering their things and the food. Rien took out the ring and indeed it was pulling her in the direction that Amadeus had indicated. They were going to the right place.
Lyra stacked her bag up against her leg as she crouched next to the orb, where it lay nestled in the grass. "Okay everyone...just step back a bit, there'll be another flash so you might want to cover your eyes. They did as she asked, each shielding their face. She whispered a few words and then snatched the globe from the ground. A white hot light surrounded them for a fifth of a second and then they were standing in the desert.
Waru quickly passed out water bottles. The heat was already seeping into them. He dreaded what it would be like as the day wore on.
Lyra pretended to be putting her things in the cart and adopted the same tone as Amadeus. "What do you have for Nolah?" She asked.

Amadeus looked at her as if she had just asked him to reveal himself. He put a hand over his mouth and shouted through his fingers. "Secret!! Seeeeeecret!" With that, he scampered about, helping put things in the cart (more like throwing them carelessly into the cart) and getting things ready.
"We gotta go, gotta go!"
He herded everyone into the cart, everyone kind of squished in there. They'd have time to rearrange themselves once travel was underway. Amadeus bounced around to the front of the far, picked it up so it balanced on its back to wheels and took off running.
"Up up!" he unfurled his wings and pumped them hard once, and using his ability to move things through space, the cart lifted from the ground like it was being pulled by a pegasus, and they were off, at break neck speed.

"Oh my gods!" Lyra had found a convenient position on Waru's lap and she clung to him for dear life. He laughed, secretly pleased that she was pressed up against him. He had no idea Amadeus was this powerful. He glanced across at the siblings who were squished together in the corner, Amadeus' precious butterfly secured on Rien's lap. Elure had a tight grip on Rien's shoulders to hold her still.
Those with their eyes open watched the blur of scenery with awe.

Amadeus crashed the cart to a stomach rolling halt just outside the edge of nowhere. Nothing but desert for at least five miles was visible. Amadeus raises his chin, letting go to the cart (letting to the front in fall violently to the ground). He moved forward a few steps and held out his hand like he was hailing a cab. He hit something solid, and he pushed his palm up against it. A red tinted search light shone from an invisible mount, bathing him in a weird artificial glow.
"Kage, Amadeus...Forte 456-442. Entry requested," He stated in a clear voice that belied the childishness that he had recently been displaying.
A computerized voice responded. "Kage, Amdadeus...Forte. 456-442. Entry granted. Welcome back to Crossed Swords."
And suddenly the ruins of the base appeared, melting into view like it was dripping over a waterfall. Free from the electronic cloak that shielded it from any unwanted eyes, it stood before them in all it's glory...a big steel gate the only thing barring them access. But within a few seconds, that too swung out of their path.
Amadeus looked back at his group.

Rien looked up, from underneath Elure. His elbow was in her eye and she shoved it out of the way with a slight scowl. They all picked themselves up from the ground, where they had fallen, and gazed at the appearing base.
"Um... OK," said Rien dubiously. "So what's the plan now?"
"And will they know we're here when we step in?" asked Elure. Everyone turned to Amadeus expectantly.

Waru had seen many things in his life but he had never seen a village...or what used to be a village, appear out of nowhere. He'd helped Lyra up and now the pair stood close to the siblings, Waru one step ahead of her incase something should occur. " What...what happened to this place?" He asked finally, once Rien and Elure had fallen silent.

Amadeus looked at Waru, then back at what had been the base at some point in time. He gave a lazy, one-shouldered shrug and said, "you ever seen what happens to a carcass when it's eaten by pirhanas?" The mental image that came with that little senario was none too appealing, but Amadeus just smiled, his eyes flicking from face to face, as if he were trying to memorize them.
"It's like that. Only the carass was this town, and the pirhanas were...humans, I guess. I'm not sure what they were. Whatever they were though, they picked this place pretty clean." He motioned in the direction of Roka and Faolan's house. "But not clean eeeeenough," he said in sing-song.
He gave a little hop. "Soon, they'll come out and greet us, but I don't think they'll be happy. I mean, really, they're never happy. Never at all. They may think so, but they're just kidding themselves. They think they know everything, but some doors will always be locked. Always, always. And they'll be here soon. Soon..."
It was unclear who Amadeus was speaking of, but one could only assume he mean Theonidas, Athos, and the others. Or did he?
