That is one beautiful telescope, Astrophilia. heart
How much could I expect to pay for that telescope or a similar one? ninja
Right now, I have a toy telescope that's no good. The tripod stand on it is broken and it's really no better than a cheap pair of binoculars. I won it at a local arcade some years ago and thought I could go star grazing with it.
Anyway... keep us posted as to what you find!

Orion, nice. My current telescope, which brand currently escapes me is either an 80mm or 180mm aperture, not sure. I'm going to need new lenses for it, and a new viewfinder[nonexistant -_-;]. What i'd really like to get my hands on is a telescope with a computer interface, and use it with a program like NightSky or something similar. Click on a star, and the motor on the telescope rotates to view it within a couple minutes[length measurement, not time]/degrees.
An equitorial mount, no less. Whats the weight of the counter-weight? Mine's 5 or 10Lbs.

I wish I ahd a photo to share of my telescope; it's a Meade 8" 2080 Schmidt-Cassegrain, circa the 1980s, haha. It's been around the block a few times rolleyes It looks something like this, only with a different tripod and less electronic gadgets: http://www.telescopes.com/products/meade-8-inch-lx90-gps-schmidt-cassegrain-uhtc-coatings-43535.html
My latest aquisition, however is what I'm REALLY excited about. Anyone here into solar telescopes? I just got my hands on a Coronado PST... it's the low end of the solar-tel price spectrum, but I'm amazed with it's preformance. If anyone is interested I'll hook my camera up and take some solar flare/sunspot photos to share. Heres a photo of it (you can sort of see my 2080 in the background): http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b385/Mad_Hatter106/Telescopes/solar-tel2.jpg
and a good review of the PST if you want to know more: http://www.eastvalleyastronomy.org/reviews/Coronado.htm

That's nice...real nice. My boyfriend and I are saving up for a Meade LX 200 our school has one that we use at our Astronomy club meetings...but my bf and I think it would cool to have our own.
We are going to be saving for a long time...

My sister surprised me with a telescope (I think the company is called Telasco or something like that) for Christmas some years ago. I used the moon for practice, but I almost fainted the first time I saw Jupiter and Saturn. I can't use it now though because I have to get some screws replaced.
Does anyone know if using strip tape could damage the telescope?

Quote: Does anyone know if using strip tape could damage the telescope? I can't imagine that it would, so long as you don't put any on the optics or any moving parts... I personally wouldn't because I loath fixing things with tape as opposed to fixing something properly. Worst I can imagine happening is that you'll end up with an expensive piece of equipment all sticky sad
