Arrrgh!

I just got a letter telling me that I did well enough on the PSAT to take an AP English class next year.

This is good news because everyone in my Honors English I class promised to come back to take AP with Mrs. Hood in a few years.

Now, originally, I was going go ahead and do Honors III and College English in my junior year, and then take AP English as a senior.

But now, these people are telling me that I should do AP as junior, which would mean scheduling it arounds Honors III (which is required) and that would be waaaay to much work to handle.

In other words, it's a big, stressful mess.

So, I figure these are my options:
1) Follow the original plan of Honors III and College English in my junior year, and then take AP English as a senior.
2) Go ahead and take Honors III and AP next year, and have college English as a senior.
3) Do #2, but switch to the regular English III class.
4) Give up all hope of getting into college.

Any advice, those of you who have already escaped the hell-hole known high school?

I hate the word "should." What is their reasoning behind that? What is AP English and what are the benefits of the course?

I'm assuming that if you take College English in high school it counts as a college credit course. I suppose that's a good thing since it'll save you a little time in college and a little money. However, intro level courses in college are a good way to build your college GPA and get looked at if you want to transfer to another school or go on to grad school.

Right now I like option #2, but I'm lazy and don't know the whole story of what's going on and what all the classes are.

AP English is about 10 times harder, doesn't provide college credits, but is recognized nation-wide in colleges. After you get done with it (It's a 3-quater class), you get to take the AP Exam in May. I think that 4 is the highest score you can get, and 3 the second highest. (And I have "a 70% chance of getting a 3 or higher") I can't explain it too well. I'll havta' reread the letter, or talk to the TAG teacher on Monday/Tuesday.

College courses do count for college credits, but only for Iowa colleges (not a problem, since I'm headed for University of Iowa), and would save me some time (and hopefully money) in college.

The only problem with number 2 is that it would mean scheduling AP and Honors III together. AP takes up the first three quarters, and I would have to study for the exam in the 4th, which would take out of my time in Honors III. Or... maybe I could get it so I have a couple of electives and PE in 4th.

Or maybe I'll just worry about it when my junior year finally comes. sweatdrop

So explain to me what's wrong with option number 1?

Are the people trying to get you to take the more stressful schedule the problem? Because if they are, that sounds like their problem.

Pretty much ^^ But it's nice to have a place to vent, no?

...But I guess that's not what the help thread is for. Sorrys.

Last I heard, AP courses can be used for college credit, assuming you get a "respectable" score on the exam in May. I got 15 college credits from AP classes, all because I got a 4/5 on all of the exams I took. Those usually count for 3 credits each, since Advanced Placement courses are college-level work.

Remember all my boyfriend problems?

Yeah. There's another one.

I've recently been thinking about breaking up with him. I'm afraid of him getting really mad--I'm the only person he really trusts. We haven't been hanging out lately, and I know that when we finally do get together again. I'll fall in love with him all over. Then, we'll not hang out for a while. I'll contemplate our relationship.
When we hang out, it's like, "I want to be with him forever!" But when we don't... it's bad.

Help?

Well, if it's not prying in too much, I'd like to ask why you don't hang out very often.

All things should be put into consideration here. Does the happiness you feel when you're with him outweigh what you feel when you're apart? Is he making an honest effort to keep the relationship together? Does he seem to care about the relationship?

Haha, more of Ayla being emotionally unstable. biggrin

Recently, I slept over at "Laurie"'s house. (Refer to other posts) During which, she admitted she's bisexual, but promised never to hit on me. Now, I'm very good at keeping secrets, and this is one that I know I'll keep with no problem. (I think it's alright if I don't say her real name.) Problem is, like I said before, most of the school hates her. A lot. She's a person who is open about her life, and I'm afraid someone will pretend to be friends with her and then tell everyone her secrets. Or maybe I'm just paranoid.

Also, a lot of freshman seem to go all "insta-hate" on her because the upperclassmen don't like her. It really doesn't make sense, hating someone to gain someone else's respect.

I'm really scared about this year, and the two that follow it. As a freshman, I thought it was horrible. Torturing. Life couldn't get worse. I don't think 5 days ever passed without me sobbing. I'm trying to stay calm, I really am. But my mind seems to like scaring me by remembering all the bad things that happened during ninth grade: almost losing a best friend twice, second, third, and fourth thoughts about my boyfriend, getting stalked walking back home from school, etc.
Not to mention having one of the best teachers moving away, one of the principals dying, and my English teacher being able to make me cry by just looking back at me.

I really don't know if I can handle this year. I've already started crying about it. cry

EMERGENCY FIRST AID HUGS!

heart heart hugs heart heart

Poor thing. It's perfectly understandable why you're so upset. Have some hot cocoa with lots of marchmellows, it great for nerves.

I do have some advice to offer.

High school...seperates the people from the sheeple. Most freshman start out as sheeple, following the lead of the upperclassmen (mostly the loud obnoxious idiots, in my personal experience, as they are the most easily visible.) There is little that can be done about them, except to try to distanc eyourself from them and their hate, and wait for them to grow up. Some do, some don't. You should be able to notice the changes.

You're right, it doesn't make sense to hate someone just to gain another's respect. But alot of your classmates are probably trying to vy for acceptance among the upperclassman, ya know the "I wanna be in with the cool kids, duuuuurrrr" syndrome.

I know it's hard, but don't let your past haunt you. You're in highschool, now's the time to do what makes you happy (within reason!) here and now. Try to ignore the things that make you unhappy.

I'd also like to say, that from my experience... People out to ruin other people's lives at highschool age, are usually lazy about it. They'd rather just make something up going off of what they know already than get close and find out the truth.

You can handle this year. It gets easier as you go. Keep those you love close, and share your feelings.

Remember, we're here to help to. =^_^=
