Yeah, you can see the same action made in Princess Mononoke
(anime movie)
When the prince leaves his village he is forced to cut his hair and never come back
so I guess its the same thing in Avatar
AAAAaaaa!! I love that movie!! GO dude! High five! (I love the leader of the wolf pack. She rocks)

Yeah its sad Zuko had to cut his hair. Im glad it grew back quick. Poor guy, being bald and having a huge scar. Ouch.

ok people Japanese culture 101 (and if you didn't know before firenation=Japan, earthkingdom=china, watertribe=mongolia, Airnomads=tibet)


in Fuedal Japan only Samuria were allowed to grow out their hair. it was a symbol of their status and their pride. cutting the hair off your enemy in Fuedal Japan was a way to dishonor them and often they would kill themselves from the shame.

by cutting off his hair it is a symbol of him giving up his status as a firenation noble and him accepting that he can never go back.

well.. he did look crapy.. but now he looks sexy.. and he'll look sexyer when it all grows in and he has it tied up again. * i think her cut it b/c it was like a ritualistic sign.. hes cutting off his loyalty to the fire nation.. sort of like abandoning it.. tho im not sure* but ahhh!!! i cant wait to see it when it grows back, and when will he take that damn hat off!!! lol gonk

In the past in China, a man's hair was his honor. The worst thing you could do to a Chinese man would be to cut off his hair. And seeing as they have given up/lost their honor...
