I think he's an egomaniac and a glory hound (Well a lot of gods are, but I take offense to him in particular), he doesn't like being called that, when I tried to call on him in ritual ages ago we fought each other the entire time, and the ritual was bust. It ended with me shouting insults that would have made a sailor blush.

We just...really don't get on.

Like, if he took on mortal form and we met, it would break down into a brawl.

I'm sure he works out well for other Pagans, and that's fine; I've got no grudge against them for working with him, I just can't.
Well, you don't necessarily have to work with him. I know some Heathen's that pretty much just work with the wights and other non-deity beings, or others that only ever work with one or two of the Gods. For me, I've never seen him to be an egomaniac but I can see where it might be an issue for some. Actually, I often seem to get a much milder version of him then most people, so I'm often curious about how others interact with him. Honestly, I do most of my work with Freyja lately. Need to get more work in with Tyr again.

Also, yeah Strega is a witch but isn't the other term Stregheria or something like that?

Yeah, something like that. I'm eternally unsure how it's spelt. sweatdrop

Which is why most of the time I just use Strega. Most of the people I use the term with understand that its the short hand for that specific tradition.

I personally find the Aradia story and the creation of witches mythos to be rather interesting. Its one of my favorite myths actually.

Yeah, realized it was for the Norse pantheon, and....well...I have massive issues with Oðinn anyways. Guess I won't be taking that path.
There are some Germanic pagans who don't work with Odin. They have other deities in the pantheon they work with. I personally have a relationship with Odin as well as his wife Frigga. There are other Germanic traditions like the Vanatru and others.

That's really odd that that's your experience, given that Odin likes to go about as a wandering human. He deliberately pretends to be someone much less impressive than He actually is.

Out of interest, why did you invite Him over and then insult Him?

I had read him up and he seemed pretty...useful for the ritual I was doing (I Don't even remember what it was for now) and invited him saying he didn't have to show if he didn't want to, I felt his presence, and then...it just went to s**t. Like, candles blew out, incense caught the cloth next to it on fire, water spilled on the inscriptions, and I tried to salvage it, but I was fourteen and in a temper and Odinn was feeling like a smug little s**t and I just...snapped.

I shouted insults, he shouted them right back (I say shouted but it was more of I got intense feelings of "Well ******** you you couldn't handle this anyways" at which point I said some things that I probably shouldn't have gotten away with saying to a god of all things)

And....he may have been right.

I think that's what pissed me off most.

Think of it as a childish grudge.

It's great that you two get along.

I have lost my train of thought, but Tyr would probably love to hear from you again.

I myself need to get in touch with Ogun and Oya.

Don't know about Wiccan myself but in many cultures, its all about the climate. In warmer climates, like Greece, Rome, and Egypt, it actually makes a lot of sense for the cultures to consider the moon feminine and the sun masculine, as the sun is powerful, harsh, and even dangerous and the moon is more a soothing balm. On the other hand, some cultures, like the Norse did things the other way round because in a much colder, and often darker climate, the sun is warmth, and comfort, and nurtures life, while the moon is cold and harsh.

Actually, as far as I know all the Egyptian lunar deities are male and the actual sun was also male. Though the Eye of Ra was also consider solar and was always female.
Noted. Sorry for the mistake.

Not a problem. The sun still fit with your description as being powerful (Eye of Ra being powerful warriors in almost all of their mythology) but the moon was associated more with time from what I've gathered. Djehuty (Who is also labeled a lunar deity) gambled with Iah (the moon) to add 5 days to the year. Djehuty has an association with time and so does Khonsu.

Vanatru worship the Vanir (Freyr, Freya, Niord and occasionally Nerthus). Its not as common as Asatru but its out there. There are also those who worship Loki and his children and those who worship the Jotun.

If that was the situation and it was actually some time ago, I'd suggest sounding him out again. Maybe actually try getting to know him before inviting him to a ritual and all. He may have been trying to teach a lesson. It is pretty ballsy and a little disrespectful to have dealt with him in that way. You were only 14 and you invited him because he might be useful to what you were doing, not because he might want to come or because you wanted to honor him and you had no previous relationship to draw on. But I think we've all done stupid, ignorant, and/or arrogant s**t at 14 that we would never do today. You might have a different experience with him now.

Where do you think the Goddess as Mother and Lover of the God comes from in regards to the Wiccan Lord and Lady?
