User ImageThe moment the flames touched the torn flesh it began to fizzle and bubble, melting away until only piles of ash remained. The smell was awful but once the fires had died down the ash remained still, the only movement caused form the blowing of the wind. Fire would indeed be one way to defeat the vampires in their own land but there was still many more vampires than there were wolves. It would be a risky undertaking, maybe wolves lives lost in the struggle. Once the flames had finally died down a movement in the trees would catch Niko's eyes, A vampire emerging but this one showing himself to the wolf instead of remaining hidden. Niko's instant fighting stance would not surprise the vampire but he would merely nod his head, his eyes a dark brown unlike the void of black Niko was used to. Even the vampires skin seemed not to be as pale, now aura of death surrounding him. "You must be Niko, Alpha of the Blood Moon Werewolves." The vampire stated in a calm voice. "I am Lucian, Leader of the Vampire Resistance and I am here to help you."

Roxanne laid in the bed for days it seemed but really it was only hours. It was hard to tell when a day ended and new one began in this dark world. She had no windows but even looking at the sky would not help even give her a hint to the time of day or night it was. She just laid there in silence, her hands placed protectively over her stomach. Roxanne could live with her fate but the fate of her son was another thing. She could not let him suffer in the way the head vampire intended. Even thinking bout it made her sick but she could not even throw-up, having already released everything in stomach. What was she to do? She could not ask Niko to come and save them, it would be a death sentence. No, this she had to do on her own and hoped that her son would survive.

When a knock came at her door Roxanne nearly fell off the bed but she was able to at least calm down enough to speak "Yes?"
When the door opened and she saw Jacque standing there she quickly stood up wondering what exactly it was that he wanted. "The Master wishes for you to join him for dinner. There are dresses in the wardrobe over there. He says to dress formally." with that he shut the door leaving Roxanne to wonder what his master was up to. She walked over to the wardrobe and found it filled with large ball gowns, All in shades of red and black. she grabbed a black one thinking it fitting for someone who was already mourning over her sons death, she slipped it on having a hard time with all the buttons but eventually getting it on properly before she knocked on the door to see if one of the guards was going to escort her. She was only slightly surprised to see Jacque still standing there, he looked over her form in approval before extending him arm to her and escorting her down to the main dinning hall.

Once there she was shocked to find that the room was lined with windows that looked out over the kingdom. The always eclipsed sun hanging high in the sky but Roxanne not knowing what that meant exactly. Jacque took her to her seat and pulled it out for her, waiting for her to sit down before bowing and taking his leave. Roxanne peered across the table at the head vampire, his smile sending chills down her spin. His red eyes burning with a need she had no intention of filling. A servant exited one of the doors which Roxanne guess lead to a kitchen and the pale woman set down a piece of raw meat before her before leaving. The head vampire swirled around a cup of dark liquid but no food sat before him. Roxanne remembered then that the vampires only drank the blood of creatures called mortals and she began to wonder which poor soul had sacrificed its life for this vampires meal. Roxanne looked back down to the meat in disgust but knew she had to eat it, her son needing it even if she did not. She picked up the utensils placed before her and tore into it, putting a piece of it into her mouth. "Sorry if it is a little tougher that you are used to. Us vampires usually do not cook."

Roxanne just stared at the head vampire while her jaw worked the tough meat. She realized then that this would be the perfect time to gather information about them. Hoping that she would gleam something of important that would help her escape this place and save her son. "What is your name? I have only heard you referred to as master but I have yet to hear your given name."
"I am Caine, Son of Adam and Eve, brother and murderer of Abel and banished by the oh holy god to ever enter heaven..." He stated very matter-o-factly as if Roxanne should know exactly what the meant.

Niko sighed in satisfaction as the vampire burned up successfully. At least, however gruesome, there was a way to destroy these creatures. His will freshly bolstered, he prepared to take off again into the forest. He had tried to fix in his mind the best direction to take in order to reach Roxanne, but it was difficult without the link. Before he could take a step, however, a vampire emerged from the woods.

Niko tensed, hackles raised, and a fearsome growl rumbled in his throat. His hind legs were already set to spring when the creature started talking to him. Vampire Resistance? He scoffed inwardly. That sounded so ridiculous, so absolutely ludicrous, he was tempted to take a flying leap and tear the foul thing's head off. And yet... Niko found his gaze drawn to study the vampire's eyes. Something about them...was different. For one, they were not black. Still not a hope-inspiring color, but they were not that soulless void at least. Deciding he did not want to grant the vampire access to his mind to speak, Niko let himself relax into his human form.

"Yes, I am Niko." He responded, voice tense, wary. "Why are you resisting your own kind? Not that I believe you, but I find it curious you would renege on your fellow...creatures." His lip lifted in distaste. He felt nothing but hatred for vampires, and couldn't make himself look on them favorably enough to even call them by their proper name half the time. "If you are what you say your are, why have you not contacted us before?" What am I doing? Niko cursed inwardly. Every second I waste with this liar, is a second Roxanne could be hurt. The terrible, gut-wrenching thought stopped his breath for a moment, before again igniting his rage. He would slaughter them all, he thought grimly. He would fight his way to Roxanne's side, whatever the cost.

User ImageLucian just nodded once Niko confirmed that it was him, the vampire stayed completely still wanting Niko to know he meant no harm. His soft brown eyes watched Niko closely as he answered each of his question carefully "Not all vampires are about death and destruction like the ones you have met. Some wish to only be. Not wishing to harm humans or werewolves but to be apart of this world. Not wanting to be its destroyer." at that he moved for the first time to reveal the others standing behind him jut within the shadows. They stepped forward, lining up behind Lucian as he continued. "Believe it or not Werewolf but our origins are the same. We are all the off-spring of Lilith and Cain. Part Demon and part human. Our mother never wished for us to turn against each other but our father is bent on power and death. It is us who try to retain the ideals of Lilith and destroy our father and his tyrannizing ways." Lucian knew there was still much that Niko did not know but now was not the time. "We must save your mate Roxanne because it is she that holds the key to destroying Cain and bringing back peace amongst our brothers once again. We have watched you over the thousand of years, needing to make sure that the myth was true. It was not until we saw the way you destroyed the vampire that we knew for sure. You are the one true protector. Born to protect the Chosen." Lucian looked back towards where the vampires land resided. "You must let us save her. I have infiltrators in the Kingdom already. They will have already made plans for her escape. You must come with me to our hidden headquarters where you will wait for her return."

Roxanne just starred at Cain for a few minutes wondering if she was supposed to know these names or not. He looked down at her, with his glowing red eyes before he threw his head back and laughed "Of course! you beasts know nothing of Christianity. You believe in the spirits of the moon, even as barbaric as that is. You worship false Gods having no idea where you truly come from." Once again Roxanne said nothing but her attention was turned when she heard the melodic music streaming in from the room next to the dinning hall. "Hm, one of my favorites. Helena loves to play her violin while I dine, would care for a dance?" he did not even give her a chance to answer before he grabbed her hand and pull her through the doors to a ballroom. The walls were lined with gold, the whole place gleaming from top to bottom. Cain pulled Roxanne into his arms and lead in her a simple waltz before he leaned down and sniffed at her hair, she cringed "For a beast you always smelt delicious. Usually I do not partake in Werewolf blood but I do recall yours being intoxicating." Roxanne felt his mouth moving down to her neck and tried to push him away but his strength was far more superior than hers. "Lets see if in this life, that still holds true." He let his fangs sink into her flesh and Roxanne let out a cry, the pain sharp but quickly fading. It was as if some kind of toxin was seeping into her veins, making her weak and paralyzed. The pain almost pleasurable now which frightened her even more. The world began to dime just before he pulled away and Roxanne fell on her knees. "Mmmmm, it is just as I remembered. I almost took too much I had missed it so much. Take her back to her quarters!"

Roxanne felt herself being dragged away. her body weak and tired as she was taken back to her windowless and dark room. They laid her down on the bed, closing her door and plunging her into the darkness. She tried to move but found herself too weak, just giving up and closing her eyes. Would she turn now? No, she knew there must be more than just drinking of her blood to turn her into those monstrous creatures, The idea that they had drank her blood did not sit well with her but for now there was nothing she could do. It was not until hours later when someone opened her door, letting in a stream of light that she sat up, alert in bed. A small vampire girl walked into her room, something very different about her eyes. She walked over to Roxanne and gently took her hand. "My name is Helena, I am here to rescue you." Rescue her? A vampire? Was she dreaming? She found at the moment she did not care as she stood up and followed the little girl, longing to escape this dark place. The little girl led her down the hall to another bedroom. Closing the door behind her before going over to a wall and pressing something that made a panel slide open. Roxanne's eyes widened, this had to be a dream! The little girl reached for Roxanne's hand again before leading her down into the darkened tunnel. Roxanne's wolf eyes adjusting quickly to the darkness while they headed down an endless flight of stairs. What seemed like hours later but was really probably only a few minutes Roxanne saw the opening to a tunnel that lead out into the forest. The little girl lead her into the woods, moving quickly through the trees, knowing where she was going.

Finally they came upon a cave in the middle of a clearing, the cave entrance seeming out of place in the middle of woods with no mountains in sight, only boulders. Roxanne followed the little girl through the entrance and down a winding path that finally led to a large cavern, the walls lined with jewels, a waterfall falling into a warm spring in the center of the room. It was then that Roxanne looked around and saw that the room was full of vampires. All staring at her. Okay so maybe this was a nightmare....

A low growl rumbled through Niko's throat as he glared at Lucian. He could feel his hackles raising, even in his human form, as more and more vampires spread out from Lucian. Was this some kind of sick ambush? Make him trust them, and then kill him? What was the point in that? His eyes narrowed as he studied Lucian, thinking his words over in silence. This Lilith and Cain...they were not names he was familiar with. But was it safe to admit that to these...creatures? Staring at Lucian as he was, he noticed a subtle difference between his appearance and that of the vampires he had fought with before. His eyes were brown, not the soulless black he had come to know. Was this significant? Could he trust him to save Roxanne?

"Some protector I am, yes. Allowing my mate to be stolen from me, her kin and mine also kidnapped." Niko shook his head, leaning back on his heels. Bitterness entered his voice. "My temper is what has put me here now. I should not have let my anger at my ward's kidnapping to get the best of me. And now here you all are, telling me that you are good vampires and will rescue my Roxanne." He shook his head again, suddenly feeling very old. Eons old. There was nothing for it, he knew. For all his speed, he could not hope to match most vampires, and for all his strength he was alone in enemy territory. How could he hope to rescue Roxanne alone?

"Very well. I will come with you." Niko's eyes flashed as he took one aggressive step towards Lucien, bringing the full power of his gaze to bear on the rogue vampire. "But know you well that I do not, cannot, trust you. I will attack you if I think for an instant that you will harm my mate or our kin, or prevent me in any way from securing safety for them. I will surely lose against your numbers, but I will take as many of you with me as I can." That said, Niko subsided into a much less aggressive stance and moved to stand with the vampires. If they really could save Roxanne, he could not be choosy about his allies. However much he loathed the idea of working with the enemy, no matter their smooth words.

User ImageRoxanne turned to run away and went face first into what felt like a brick wall. She stumbled backwards but strong hands gripped her shoulders to steady her. She lifted her head and was met with dark brown eyes, something terrifyingly familiar about them. She almost let out a scream and moved to struggle against his grip but he quickly let go of her leaving Roxanne off balance. The man shifted to the side and she saw a whole regiment of vampires behind him but one of the figures stood out from all the rest.
"Niko!"
She rushed to him then, not even stopping to let people move out way and instead shoving them aside until she reached him. Jumping up into his arms and then falling apart before him. Tears ran down her face in relief and joy that she was actually holding again after having resigned herself to never seeing him again. Suddenly all the fear she had kept locked deep within her opened up and she began shaking uncontrollably. Snuggling her face into his neck as she let out a sound that could only be described as pure agony. The bite mark was still burning on her neck and Lucian saw it when she had turned her head to the side, her silver hair falling away. He quickly looked to Helena "He bit her?" The small vampire nodded and then bit her lower lip, her fangs still out and causing her to pierce her own lip and wince. A worried look crossed over Lucian's face and he glanced towards the werewolf couple. "I am sorry for the interruption but we must get you home and then find a new place to hide within these mountains. Now that Cain had tasted her blood he can easily track her..."

Niko stood waiting, anxious. He had waited at the "headquarters" of this rogue band of vampires for some minutes, and still there was no Roxanne. Lucien kept reassuring him that she would be here soon, that one of their agents was bringing her. It wasn't until Niko heard her voice that he believed him. Turning towards the sound, the sullen and angry countenance of the werewolf immediately transformed into one of joy and elation.

"Roxanne!" He cried in return, his heart full nearly to bursting at seeing her. As she struggled through the mass of vampires towards him, so too did Niko pushed through the dozens of people until she was safely in his arms. He pulled her in tight against him, burying his face in her soft hair and breathing deeply to reaffirm that it was her. A choked sob wracked him, for in truth he had thought he would die before seeing her again, and a tear made its way down his own face. "Roxy, I love you. I love you so much." Hearing Lucien speak quietly to the vampire who'd brought Roxanne to him, he felt anger rising in him again. This Cain had bit her? Pulling back slightly, he caught sight of her neck. "Oh, Roxy." Niko pressed his lips close to the mark, wishing he could take it from her. Erase any mark that Cain had left, visible or invisible. He held her tight to him, and nearly snapped at Lucien when the vampire spoke up. Niko managed to hold his tongue however, knowing full well that he would not have seen her again if not for them.

"Cain will find it much harder to get to her now. He's had his shot, and he has lost." His words came like a vicious oath. Roxanne would never again be out of his sight, and he would make sure there were always more warriors around to help them in the event of another vampire attack. No, Cain would have to do a lot more work to hurt Roxanne now. "If you accompany us a little ways, there are several of my own warriors back in the woods. It won't take long to reach them, and from there we will be okay." He stared at Lucien for a long moment, before saying grudgingly, "Thank you." Niko pushed open the link between him and Roxanne, flooding all of his love and concern for her through, wanting to wash her fear away. Angrily, he wished he could have met this Cain and fought him. Though he knew it was a foolish thought, for he likely could not have lived in a fight against him, he still harbored it.
